  1. I guess the choked caused the kH to drop too low and when that happens it's possible that STN Will follow about 2 weeks later. CR choke already very headache one, a dosing pump will solve your headache for the cost of 5-6pc of SPS. CR design issues lar lol.
  2. bristletooths are excellents algae eaters but at the same time they are super heavy bombers
  3. Basically like I mentioned, Curing is to get rid of any die-off. Cooking is to get rid of nutrients in the LR. Basically the idea is to keep the LR in low nutrients water so all the nutrients will leach out and when you eventually add the LR into your tank they won't cause problems like fueling algae growth etc. You could probably cure by changing the water very frequently, have a big efficient skimmre running etc.
  4. Curing is just to ensure no more die off and no more ammonia produced. This batch of LR were soaked in freshwater before I got them so I need to cure them first. Cooking is longer process where you allows the LR to leach out nutrients so when you eventually place the LRs in the tank they cause unwanted algae growth.
  5. Yes my waste water has undetectable PO4 and NO3. For purpose of cooking should be fine. Actually the process is more like curing it rather than cooking.
  6. Water change for the tub will be done weekly with waste water from my reef during water changes.
  7. And I can't believe you going for another beckett
  8. One is made for creating foam in fountain. length and dia of downtube and the pump used will affect the performance. The other is made for skimmers. RPM of the needlewheel impeller, length, spacing and placement configuration of the pin will affect the performance too. And of course the rest of the parts of the skimmers got to be properly balanced. Doesn't meant you take this part add onto that part and it will work well.
  9. foam head and needlewheel characterist totally different right?? wish you all the best
  10. How are you going to determine the height, dia of the main chamber? dia meter and length of down tube? length and dia of neck, pump used? design of the taper? etc etc etc? Those highend needlewheel has gone thru R&D to ensure everything is in balance.
  11. If a skimmer skims nothing is it still called a skimmer?? Care to explain what are the factors affecting the nutrients levels in the tank?
  12. The zeoliths should absorb any ammonia form so that's why I am not adding in a skimmer. Reason why no black cover is because this tub is in the room and the room is dark most of the time
  13. What do you understand by soft corals? Means corals w/o skeletons. Any hard corals still requires import permit.
  14. 35ppt refers to the salinity. 1.023 refers to the specific gravity (SG). your JBJ Digi Lab tester will show you in salinity if I am not wrong.
  15. For peronsal "consumption" AVA allows soft corals max 5 pc and the LR that the soft corals attached to should not be larger than palm size.
  16. You know what I going to do with the new LR since you seen my tank before. Will contact you soon.
  17. Looking for big piece LR. >2-3 open palm size. white LR also fine. dead rocks also no problem.
  18. MIA? Don't think so, some of them still actively surfing/monitoring in the background.
  19. He is busy preparing for his marriage, new house etc
  20. You can keep your skimmer running but it will not work as well at low SG. Don't understand what is LF?
  21. If you hypo main tank then before you start the process need to remove all corals and inverts. Remember at low SG skimmer don't work well so try to reduce feedings. For main tank need to hypo for a duration of 8 weeks. Not only you need to check the SG, you need to check the pH too in order to prevent pH crash at low SG. However if you keep the kh at ard 10 then you can prevent pH crash.
  22. To be effective in killing the parasites, the SG need to be 1.008 to 1.010. 1.018 to 1.020 is way too high and will not have any effects. You start off by doing water change with freshwater (kH buffered to 10dkh). Do 20% water change 2 time a day (12 hrs apart) until you reach 1.008 Highly recommended to use a calibrated refractometer for accurately monitoring the SG. If you perform the hypo in a QT then 2 weeks (3 weeks to be safe) will ensure no more parasites on the fish body and during this time you can transfer the fish to another tank and raise the SG back to normal from there. Please take note that during this time the original QT will still have ich parasites. If you cannot afford another QT to do the transfer then you need to wait out 8 weeks for the parasites to complete min 2 full life cycles.
  23. Why look at skimmate color to determine the efficiency of the skimmer? Before I continue, let me clarify that the weipro is a decent skimmer taking into account it's price. However we all know how good it is when you compare it with the higher end skimmers. You should check the nutrients levels in the tank to see the power of the skimmer instead.
  24. You still need to lower your NO3 first. skimmer don't remove NO3.
