Finally the foaming I got. As I am typing this message foam already going into collection cup. Now time to play play and get dark kopi-O.

After advise from brother rodian, I retweak the skimmer a bit and got this high foam. Before that I cut the flow down too much and gate valve was closed too much and foam "stuck" at 1/2 way up the foam tower. Like what I got in the photos posted yesterday. Here's the setting on the ball valve.

Increasing the sump turn over-rate seems to have some positive impact on the ORP. Will need to monitor for a few more days.

For frozen mysis, here's what I do. Defrost it, dry it with toilet paper. Add 3 drops of kent garlic in 6 cubes of mysis. Wait 5mins then start to feed. For norti, soak in the mysis juice. My tangs love it heheh.

a surface skimmer is needed only when you don't have an internal overflow box. Most of the FW tanks do not have and uses canister filter so they used surface skimmer. Most reef tanks have an overflow box so no need surface skimmer.

With low concentration of salt (one tablespoon every 10litres) the plants won't be killed. This is a good way of curing freshwater ich. Just keep the salt at that concentration for 3 weeks and confirm no more ich after that. For planted tanks it is preferred to use lights with 6.5K color temp. 10KK might promote algae growth. It's a little difference from Marine. We also actually dose NO3 and PO4 to keep the plants growing too.

I find freshwater planted tank so much more easier compared to reef. At least when you kanna whitespot in FW, it's an easy cure by adding some salts and the plants won't be affected. My plants where growing so well that I went away for one month end up they over grown until they form a super thick layer on top of the tank and covered all the lights end up those below died.

15W for the 7000 l/h version. 45w for the 12000 l/h version.

oh yes forgot to add, now running 1x4500 l/h ocean free + 1xatman AT-106 as return pump. Now can see the return flow very high. My first compartment starts foaming already due to high volume of water/air mixture. Kinda skimmer. Maybe must redesign the cover to incoperate a collection cup

A resun MD55 pressure rated pump (abt 1100 gph 130w). Gate valve is completely open. A ball valve is installed and closed abt 25% to reduce the flow here. EV-240 still in process of breaking in. Probably due to some chemical or oil in the MD55.

EV-240 with Ocean free 9000 pump (4500 l/h 85W). Supposed to be the SEN 900 equivalent which is recommended by AquaC. There is not sufficient pressure from this pump to drive the EV-240 injector properly and insufficient foam is produced so some of the skimmate collects at the foam tower. The water level is set at the manufactuer's recommend level (same level as the inner platform). Gate valve is set abt 25% open. With this setup the skimmer still collect some skimmate in the collection cup.

wasted, if only you had sell it one month earlier then I could have got it! Dr Chill T-loan me one for a week while I wait for my 1.25HP Titanium and this 0.5 RR works pretty well for my 4ft.

I feel so sorry for the person that is going to clean this skimmate The dryer skimmate the better right? At least for me cos sometimes I go for long overseas trip (>2 weeks) and if the skimmate too wet then there is a real danger of skimmate overflow. These super thick types can be dissolved in hot water easily I think so cleaning should not be too difficult/troublesome.
