Post your dwarfs/pygmy angels here
weileong replied to roidan's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
No need giant skimmers lar. Just get a skimmer that is good for your bioload with extra capacity to handle any spike will do. -

I dunno lei.. my tank only 4ft yet my tangs never touch my corals one. Why? Because I feed them full full, nice nice tasty food. tang poo or snails spawning don't crash my tank got my skimmer got reserved capacity to handle the spike -

ya locking up a acanthurus in a 3ft compared to a 6-7foot is a lot of diff hor. No wonder the acanthurus gone bonkus after getting locked up in 3ft tank. This is exceptional case as you drive the acanthurus crazy, human factor ah -

Better post properly hor... if not newbie see liao tot tangs are non-reef safe while angels are reef safe. Check around and see if you keep big angels in reef tank safe or not -

I believe if you feed the fish enuff yummy food they probably won't go after your softies/LPS. Maybe once in a while mouth itchy go bite bite As for the tang poo problem, don't keep too many if the filtration cannot tahan -

Angel also not 100% reef safe. Where got fish 100% reef safe one? Confirm once in a while you get a crazy one Poo can settle with better skimmer Like that better not keep snail, wait spawn liao kill your reef. -

Not complete solution to ich I have no objection is using UV.
-
UV helps but does not kill all the parasites.
-
I started with just 25% of the recommended dose then increase to 50% and finally to full dose all in 18 weeks time. With this gradual increase in dosage I lost only 3 colony. In the first place these 3 colony are not doing well in my tank. I've started the zeovit on 7th Sept and coming to 5 months soon. NO3 are undetectable and PO4 undetectable with salifert test kit but 0.05 with hanna PO4 meter. There are folks in RC that do not use rowaphos all along and when they add in rowaphos and they experience RTN/STN on they corals so a sudden decrease in nutrients (PO4 in this case) caused the coral death.
-
what medication are you dosing? It might be false appearance that the ich is clearing and fishes are getting better as the ich has fallen off the fish and gone onto another stage. They will come back to haunt your fishes in even greater numbers.
-
How are you going to "fight" the ich when you're not going to use the proper way? Or you going to practise the PNP (pray and pray) method?
-
If the fish has been hypo treated for min 6 weeks and if the tank is free of ich (left fishless for min 6 weeks) and no new addition of fish that is not 101% ich free then no matter how stressed out the fishes are then there won't be any ich outbreak.

resun FR will work fine... prices are very low.. no reasons not to use it. -

Skip the carbon at this stage. Get an FR for the PO4 media. -
How often do you clean your skimmer?
weileong replied to Volitan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Provided your skimmer is easy to do maintaince... else if have to release so many screws to clean the collection cup and you do it daily then I really -
algae bloom..Nitrate < 10 phosphate = 0
weileong replied to wa_lanz's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Few things could be happening. PUR-II carbon leaching PO4. Tap water contains PO4. The more water you change the more PO4 you introduce. Use this method only if you use RO/DI water with 0ppm TDS reading. Aquaphos exhausted or used in not so efficient way. If used in mesh bag then try to knead it daily. What PO4 testkit are you using? Most hobby testkit has poor lowest detection limit so it shows your PO4 is undetectable you still have some PO4 reading just that either your eyes cannot see the color or the testkit in not capable of testing it. Best solution, use the aquaphos in a FR, use DO/RI water and use a reliable brand of GAC that don't leach PO4. Manually ###### of the cyano will help too. Tune your beckett for wetter skimmer if not clean the collection cup/neck daily. -
Best way to remove silicates and silicic acid??
weileong replied to jOsHiE's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Anyway the "SiO2" is printed on the label of the rowaphos bottle so it already indicates that it absorb the Silicates. For the waste water from the RO units you can use it for other purpose like washing machine, washing your cars etc. No need to be rich to use RO. Anyway those using DI alone are the really rich pple, without the RO stage the DI stage gets exhausted faster -
Another batch due to hatch this "evening" probably after 10pm (my main lights off). No time to try to culture rotifier so I guess let nature take it's own course
