how eco-friendly/ reef-friendly are we really?
Nitro replied to jacobus's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Jacobus > What do u mean natural waste removal? Sand shifter starfish, sea cuke, DSB, hermit etc? There is always two school of thought to everything. For reefing, some go for high end equipments while some go for minimal basic equipments, both to keep beautiful reef tanks. For me, I think it's abt what u wanna keep that will determine ur equipments. Like my tank and system def can't keep SPS. The other way to be Eco-friendly is bring ur own plastic bags, containers, foam boxes on ur next reef shopping lor... haha. Hopefully with this, our LFS can lower their prices cuz we help them to cut back the cost for plastic bags. -
Wow, u guys set up real fast ah, Wed nite collect, now all up and playing, good stuff. U've got a pair of nice looking clown. U can try using filter wool to cover at the inlet of ur sump instead of the plastic bag. U might wanna chk out my forum to see what I meant. Think I've posted a pic of that part for my sump tank.

colinsoon > nice rock scaping u've got there. I like the bridge part. Another nice reef tank in the making ah, keep it up and keep it coming manz. Show some pics of the "Heart" & "Lungs / Livers" of ur tank system leh.

colinsoon > mine not "GEM", juz some very humble but nice "STONES" Gem is the red yuma with white stripe u see a few pages back... that one is one of a real gem but very sadly it's gone Now I'm looking for this type of yuma again, very few or in fact I only bought and seen it at ML. SunriseSunset > u r welcome. Tank got scratches but hope with ur reefing skills, the attention can be taken away from that U see the photos I've posted like very sharp and nice rite but there are plenty of scratches on the tank liaoz. All from the magnet cleaner. Friends come visiting, see magnet cleaner very special, start cleaning, than got sand start with the inner piece, clean and scratch at the same time. Wah tell u, when that happened, my heart like ganna scratched too manz. So now since got scratches, sometimes I also don't care liao when I'm the one who scratched it. Hopefully after many many yrs, all the scratches can even out and then smoothen again... haha

dun be discouraged, reef on manz! U've got a very different method in filteration ah, hey quickly shoot some pics of ur filtering system and post it leh, wanna learn from each other. U saw my thread in Member's Tank? The latest photos are shot on the K800i also. This cam phone can gives very sharp and clear close ups, juz have to figure it out lar Try the macro without flash and set the White Balance to other settings.

Rx is rite, how fast it rust depends on the salt water exposure but since u already placed the tank on it and put sand, rocks, water etc... the other best way is to always wipe away any salt spray or water when it's wet lor. Extra works but that's the next best thing

Hi glim, So u drive? I can meet u when u along the way when u r diving ard if u dun mind bringing the crab along...haha. I drive too, so can we arrange something like that? If it's too troublesome for u than, it's ok

Thanx for the fast replies. Appreciate all the offers, yes I'll take the crabs and feed it to my HuMu HuMu and post some pics after that for all to see the feeding in action. Are all 3 bros able to meet me at a given time at Tampines? Let's arrange it first to be in the evenings at one location? imooi2001 > yes we give our bosses craps, that's bcuz they always gives us shit...haha

godzillaliu88 > u meant the green one or the big red one on the background? They always all tenticles out one regardless before feeding or after target feeding. Ya this few days they are hungry as I wasn't free to feed them, even my Super Sun also slim down liao.

sisreefer, Nice anemones u've got. So a chiller is a must or juz room temp @ ard 28deg with a small fan will do? I'm trying to see if I can keep a tankful of anemones with clown fish with minimum high consumption equipments. So far, bought abt 10 anemones and left one survival. Now, I've a ext Ehiem filter, 2x PL 18watts from ZooMed, 1x fan. Next equipment to get is a Tunze Nano skimmer. That's all for equipments, don't plan to get anymore. Will try to post photos soon. Why I'm setting up this project??? I hope I can keep clowns and anemones successfully and share my experiences with those who are keen on clowns and anemones. Wish me all the best, reefers!
