  1. For those looking for Queen and King... SL has a nos. of feeding ones. Queens are from previous shipment, very stable (size ranges from 3 to 7") and Kings juz came in few days and already feeding (size range from 2 to 5"). Got some very juv Emperor from previous shipment and it very very stable liao. The juv Queens are so stable that when mine was caught stuck in between rocks for overnite, it was like so injured and seems going to die but it miraculously recovered and even feed off from my fingers after 2 days.
  2. The new Queen and King in the house! I missed this Regal... if only he was more tamed. Now in another reefer's tank. Hope it's doing great.
  3. Thanks. Oh I luv the 2 clowns too So now you've gain experience in removing nuisance algae the natural way...
  4. If one really want to keep marine at low cost, I've got an idea to share. Maybe some of you might wanna try it! Set up a 3 tank system... 1 main tank, 1 sump and 1 refugium. The system to be hooked up together and simulating a "high and low" tide period. Main tank of cse is for keeping all sorts of LS and corals, sump to house the most basic filtration system such as carbon wool, skimmer and FR (no light in this sump) and the refugium is to keep only algae for exporting nutrients (this area with photo-period). Algae can be cheatos, kelps, mangrove plants, red bamboo/grapes (which can harvest periodically to feed fishes like tangs) and turtle grass etc. The whole system is to be operated based on a 12hrs tide period. Meaning the water in the refugium is to be hold for 12 hrs before being pump into the main tank. This will simulate high-tide in the main tank while it's low-tide for the refugium. After 12hrs, the process will vice-versa. 12hrs is a good time for nutrients to be broken down by the algae and marine plants, which in away purifying the water and this act as fresh sea water when being pumped into the main tank. Of cse the photo-period between the main and refugium had to be syn too. With efficient LEDs sets, and skimmers and pumps in the market, with the proper sizing I'm sure one won't need to buy all the high-end equipments. But one still need to have 3 tank of almost the same size and also a fairly large floor area
  5. vidextreme > Yours seems to be a "very ideal set-up but does it really work" idea. If the emphasis is on juz keeping a small handful of LS and corals, juz so to make it probable without changing water, than I would said there is no joy in keep this set-up cuz there will be too many limitations. If you're going to use only skimmer and air-stones, no filtration or sump/refugium, are you going to supplement the tank water perimeters with marine supplements? My concerns is that the skimmer not only removes DOC but also some of the required chemical compound along the way. So if you go without water change for a yr or more and no supplements are added periodically, I seriously doubt this set-up can host the LS and corals healthily. Imagine, putting a person in prison and gives only food and water with a W.C and wash basin in the same small room with lights and no exposure to sunlight... I'm sure one can survive but to what expand at the optimal health (both physical and mental) of that person? If those of us reading this seriously want to keep marine at a low cost with a good choices of LS and corals, lets not kid ourselves that juz a tank, with salt water, air-supply and sunlight can keep the whole system going. Look at the Bio-sphere at Science Centre (the totally enclosed self-sustain system), even that, the choice of LS and plants in it is only one species of very small dwarf shrimps and one kind of plant algae. Unless this is what one is trying to achieve. vidextreme, I'm not discouraging you from keeping marine but juz want to share with you my fish keeping(both fresh and marine, fish only, planted with fish and mix-reef) experiences and thoughts. No offense ok
  6. Eh... kksg2000, algae blenny dun killed fishes especially wrasse. Most likely what you see is the blenny eating off the fish that is already dead.
  7. Hi Kenny1111, I must said ur tank size is very unforgiving for any errors or changes of water perimeters. It's a challenge for a begineer However by saying this, I'm not discouraging you from starting a marine tank. It's just tt you have to understand that for marine tank, any slight changes in the condition of the water perimeters or livestock can have a big effect in the tank... esp for small tanks. So I must said for your kind of setup, certain equipments are essential and not worth saving the money to get cheap stuffs or DIY (unless you know the principle behind the working conditions). A good skimmer and filtration system is a must and maybe a FR will help abit more too for a simple setup. Ppl will tell you things such as... "marine hobby is the same as freshwater, just make sure change water, feed the LS can already". This I must said is not true. If one cannot really afford a good skimmer (a good skimmer can range from $150+ onward for a 2nd hand or $300-$400+ onward), filtration system and so on... than I can only said the next best move is to change water every week (abt 20-30%) for optimal health of the tank and it's LS. This is only possible if the hobbyist is hard working enough to keep to this regime You might want to try checking out the Pasar Malam thread for the equipments you're looking for. For your tank size, my personal experience is a H&S skimmer does it's job well. You can check out it's diff model type and spec on line.
  8. Those are the Black body True Percs with unique white markings (like Picasso clowns but not really the same as the original...haha) and they're wild caught from Philippines shipment Those who got them...it's a good catch!
  9. DUCADOS> I think it's not so much of which type of angelfish will whack which type. Most fishes will whack fishes, especially it's own species and family. A good example are clownfish esp Maroon, Wrasse, even gobies does that. In the wild, it seems like only a certain family of fishes are more aggressive but like what FuEl mentioned, in an enclosed environment, most fishes does from time to time are aggressive... unless one has a really big tank to allow the fishes to swim in their own territory. There are guide-lines as to how much idea tank area per fish, u can Google this info. Sharing from experience... If you can't really give a big tank to house a certain number of fishes, the next best alternative is to introduce the angelfishes of your choice all at the same time. However PLEASE NOTE... this sudden increase of a few number of fishes does affect the water perimeter in the tank for a few days. In such instance, reduce feeding shd be observed so as to allow the system to stabilized or cope with the additional bio-loading. I would also recommend that if you have the luxury of having a refugium, do introduce the new fishes from this compartment. This is to allow you for easy monitoring of the conditions of the new fishes and also facilitate easy removal if anything goes wrong with the fishes, beside the acclimatization.
  10. Well if such delicate sponges or tunicates can populate in your tank, I can surely said the perimeters of the tank is good to certain extent.
  11. Fish sold. Thanks for the support
  12. bro, time to show some pics of the refreshed FTS leh... Can't wait to see the pair of clowns doing now in ur tank
  13. Have the following for sale. Abt 2" White Belly Regal Angel, feeding on pellets, frozen mysis and Henry's food gourmet. Not recommended for reef tank, best is with FOWLR tank as this pcs is a 'fighter'. Selling at $50/-, self-collect with own container. PM for further details.
  14. limsc, I like the way u put it across... Save $$. Agreed, u can soak the rocks in using the "matured" water from the tank replacement and use newly prep salt water for the rinse. Good one
  15. Hi there, U're invited to visit my thread under the Member's Tank to view the way I designed my sump tank
  16. Kiko, is that pair of Black Clowns the one u got from RB, the ones that I recommended? If yes, WOW! they've grown alot and doing super well!
  17. Ya the last 2 are the same juv frogfish. The pics are small bcuz the last 3 was used as my Avatar and the originals was deleted.
  18. The hybrid clowns, juv Humu Humu and a white belly Regal Angel.
  19. To add on to what Gouldian had said with regards to the rocks... I advised u shd soak them in tub of seawater (can be NSW or Marine Salt prep) with some flow or aeration. Try to soak for at least a week and after which rinse them with newly prep seawater before putting into the main tank.
  20. I like ur lumi octo at the back ground. Reminds me of the "Tree" in the movie Avatar...
