Wow value def had went up north. Black tang...always refers to as "full black tang". Dun think reefers will refer it as AT etc. Not black scopas or even a hybrid Black X Scopas.

Had a super long break surfing SRC :-) Any kind reefer and especially the old timers here...care to give an update on the latest market rates for a Black Tang, size abt 2-3".

ReefFish > I'm currently only using up to 75% max for both channels to simulate photo period of 12noon to 2pm. Beyond that it'll start to go into the late afternoon to evening configuration. From what I see on the controller housing design of this Razor series, I don't think it does good to the electronics within the controller should the system be always driving at 100% output. As of now at 75%, I already can feel the heat (by hand touching) from the controller housing being rather "hot to the touch". Am thinking of getting a small cooling fan to cool it as the housing heat-fins seems insufficient for a quick heat disspation.

Running 2 tank side by side, possible to share water?
Nitro replied to Evolutionz's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Do bear in mind whether using a common sump tank anot, do factor in the total amount of water volume from both main and frag tanks in the event of a power failure where water back-flows into the sump. Don't think you will enjoy the cleaning up should the sump over-flows! -
Expert needed for health check on new tank
Nitro replied to Kuah Boon Teck's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
A few experts u can approach in the LFS market r Henry from Marine Life, Victor from Iwarna, Kelvin from Fish Channel, Sam or Peter from SeaLife... juz to name a few ya. If from forums, the other 2 reefers who posted here r also "experts" in their field. Also to seek r those who had been doing "home based" breeding of certain marine fishes. These r the experts with vast experiences. -

Hi Boon Teck > what kind of "advise" are u looking for? From the "real experts" it won't be free but from the "free experts" it might not be acceptable or pleasant to what u going to hear. So be prepared when seeking advise n opinions in this hobby. Many of the reasonable advise will be based on personal opinions n individual experiences which does varies. It's more of like "recommendations n good husbandry skills" n not so much of "regulations or rules etc". -
Well all those areas that I'be mentioned thus far does not permit easy collection of wild corals n LS as they r either within protected area or private estates. Which in a way is good cuz indirectly these will allow wild corals n LS to flourish!

I would like to correct some of the misconception that local SG seawater is not optimal to do aquaculture... I've observed that from Chek Jawa to Woodlands mud flats and that at end of Lim Chu Kang, partially around the whole of Sentosa and even along some part of West Coast to the Keppel Bay Club area (near to Vivo), there are plenty of LPS, some SPS and various algae in these areas. Today I've even spotted 2 small clumps (baby's fist size) of brightly Sun Corals growing from the pontoon of the Keppel Bay Club where the leisure craft are moored. Sometime back in Oct/Nov 2011 when I was at Keppel Bay Club, I've also seen hard corals (SPS plates) growing out along those pontoons. Some are as huge as 30cm by 30cm. So it's not really true that our local sea water is not good enuf rather it's that the focus and awareness of such LS ard SG (both on land and in the water) are not sufficient. Our culture is one that talks abt "monies and profit opportunities"... so all these talk abt Aqua-culturing and nature preservation are not really that "important" to the authorities. Unless these items can bring in the "big cash flow" if not, no one is really going to care abt them. Oh BTW, it was also my first time to see a super big sea urchin (in the wild) clinging on the sea wall outside the Caribbean condo. It's size is really as huge as 30cm in diameter... not kidding.

I've also switched to the Razor series. Gotten 2 set of the 120w for my 4x2x2.5 ft mixed reef tank. Juz sharing with those who are using the Razor too... u all can try this to simulate a dusk till dawn effect including partial moon lite. 1) T1 @ 0000hrs, Chan A (White) @ 0% , Chan B (Blue) @ 1% 2) T2 @ 0300hrs, Chan A and B @ 0% 3) T3 @ 1200hrs, Chan A and B @ 0% 4) T4 @ 1500hrs, Chan A and B @ 45% 5) T5 @ 1800hrs, Chan A and B @ 75% 6) T6 @ 2200hrs, Chan A@ 10%, Chan B @ 50% With the above settings, I do see that certain bio-luminescence on corals and fishes can be observed throughout this photo-period. I felt that if running the LEDs at 100%, the electronics are being driven at max and temp can be rather hot. On the long run, might not be idea for the whole light set. Actually it'll do some good to the Razor controller if micro fans can be installed for better heat dissipation beside the nicely designed housing.

Veronica > if ur budget allows, I advise u to go for the mid range/value for money LED system such as Maxspect Razor 120w. Price is not on the high end n yet it allow reefer with the option of setting dusk till dawn photo period. Setting the timer do need some logic though...haha. If u really need help in ur new tank, PM me or WhatsApp me at 97437071. Eh dun apps me between 9pm to 9am though. That is my rest time.

Kelvin > u do have a point that reefers shd try to replicate as close as possible to nature for the LS in the tank. I'm sure all beginners have that intentions ya
