My 6x2x1.8 little ocean in front of the ocean
magical26 replied to PowderTang's topic in Members Tank & Specs
Hi Powder Tang Just to check, there seems to be only 1 center beam in the front of the cabinet stand. Is there any center beam at the back portion of the cabinet? Would that be a cause for concern in the long run? Just asking, I may be wrong cos I am not an engineer. -
Hi Reefers, wanted to know whether smaller grain size (like sugar-fine) or larger grain size scratches glass easier. I know that both have the potential to scratch glasses, but which one is more prone to do so... smaller or bigger grain? All inputs from your experiences are welcome... Thank you

Only if you run it at full blast 100%. I believe if you tune it down, wattage will logically decrease. Just my 2 cents...
-
Thanks PowderTang for sharing.
-
Bro, can share pics, which shop and price? Good things must share... Hahaha
-
Anyone using 2 skimmers instead of 1 out there? Care to share? I believed i came across some reefers' tank got 2 skimmers. Hope you guys chance upon this topic and chime your inputs & knowledge

Even with chiller, I consistently have some frozen 1.5L Bottles frozen. Once in a while just throw inside sump, chiller wont kick in as often. A little bit here and there can help save electricity cost... just my thoughts. Thanks bro... will take note of that.

Hahaha.... I literally laughed... good point and excuse to have 2 tanks.
-
Thanks for the inputs... Some people tell me 2 better cos if 1 down, still got another to tahan awhile... headache... Haha. No right or wrong i guess... Really down to preference. Or is there something else in terms of pros & cons that i overlooked?
-
Hi all reefers, would you rather run 2 skimmers (each pump 20watts, 1000L, total = 40 watts, 2000L) or run only 1 skimmer (with 1 pump, 40 watts, 2000L)? Dunno if i should upgrade to 1 big skimmer or 2 average size skimmer... This is with the assumption that power sockets are available and not an issue. Any pros and cons for each preference?

To me its more of aesthetics... Bare bottom tanks dont really look as realistic as the ocean. Sand does hold beneficial bacteria, but accumulates detritus in it (that are not easy to spot as compared to bare bottom). Thus, some people might feel the cons of nitrates in the long run out-weight the benefit of sand. Thats why some very serious SPS keepers prefer no sand, plus they can increase wave flow without the fear of a sandstorm. Just my 2 cents only...

How does Phosphate Reactor works
magical26 replied to foo_pat's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
The person in the video a bit naggy, but watching his videos still quite informative. You can watch the rest of his videos too. It provides good information even though not everyone will agree 100% on his methodology of DSB. -
Agree with you, but somehow will still have some accumulated in biomedia over time. Guess the best bet is to rinse it frequently during water change (with old tank water).
-
Hi Turtle1989, just to clarify, wont BioHome or BacterKing or Ceramedia cubes in some way trap detritus and build up Nitrates as well?
-
In my own opinion, based on your sump layout, you should; 1. get rid of the Coral Chips and Bio Balls (Do it bit by bit and not all at 1 shot, otherwise might experience sudden drop in bacteria count) 2. I believe you can put in carbon (to be change monthly - as an average) and phosphate remover (to be changed when you notice increase in algae growth) As for chaeto, do note that they require both good flow and light. Just my 2 cents, cheers...!

You're talking about real Live Rock now, or the Dry Rock called 'Caribsea Life Rock'? Lolx... confusing suddenly. If its the latter... confirm pest free bro. But if its not... there is no such thing as pest free for real live rock. Super Duper Rare! -
