I have both and having the same issue as you. My thought is nylon and cotton although are same 200 micron but the thickness is different so the thicker one will clog easily than thinner one. IMHO, Cotton sock is better in filtering bubbles from DT to sump when water gush down but bad point is clog easily and more difficult to wash clean.
