Yes they do customize to your required size with some charge per piece. For me, I customized 5 pieces for crucial use like the sump's wall and base and another 1 big piece to save some cost . This big piece was then self cut into a few pieces (some L shaped) by using simple acrylic cutter to form the baffles for the sump use .

Still learner now..bro. but will be expert soon because my wife come out many ideas of using acrylic to make home use products after brought her to DAMA... !

Glass tank will also la if not constructed properly...! So it's not the matter of glass or acrylic used but the skill and thickness of wall of the tank built.

Yes, same as live rock. BH still running in the the tank for a period of time with bacteria housed is known as LIVE whereas Dry BH without bacteria is DEAD one.
