  1. do note that 6mm glass may not be strong enough for marine tank. You may want to check the calculator on reefcentral website.
  2. quite a nice setup.. what tank is that? I think your tank will benefit if you do the following: Add a bigger piece of rock as centrepiece, I think you need more height in your scape. Also, you may want to add in some flowy corals like hammer, torch, octo etc. I noticed you have a small torch but i think you need 1 or 2 more.. maybe a gornio/alveo ? Add some zoas, rics and yuma and it will add lots of colours without taking too much space. Livestock - not sure what you have other than the damsel but can consider a small clownfish pair, purple firefish, goby or dottyback etc..
  3. Nice and neat setup. Can see you put a lot of thoughts into this.
  4. Very interesting build... with regards to the QT, like desi, I am wondering how it will work if you want it to be an ATO also... Also, for ATO, usually you will top up with RO/DI water... so unless you intend to freshwater "soak" your fish, I can't see how you using for both purposes.. One more thing, the main reason for QT is to separate the fish from the system, not just separate the fish. If you want to separate the fish, a small beta box will do. By connecting the QT to your main system, it really defeat the purpose of doing a QT. Hope you can work around this..
  5. Happy Birthday in advance and good luck with the new tank! Do update with more photos!
  6. Good idea Ben.. I suggest you set up your 2 ft in a way that you may be able to keep it even when you have the 4 ft... it can be used as a frag tank, or a LPS tank etc.. You can check out jacky's thread.. his is 2ft cube iirc.
  7. Hi Danzer I understand.. most of the reefers here went through some "interesting" learning process... For me, it's the no frill quick start system... which we managed to maintain for 2 years before upgrade.. learning along the way. However, to be honest, learning the hard way is no fun... not to mention costly, hence we all try to help out as much as we can. For the wavemaker, yes, Tunze will be a good choice.. go for the multicontrollers and controllable units if you can. Can start off with 2 wavemakers and a controller. There will be some limitations as well so please do read up a little. For your rocks, I think you can still use some of the rocks but if you have a chance, you can see Jacky's thread and McNuggets thread to see the type of rockscape you can achieve with nice CF rocks. The reason why i stressed so much on scaping is that once your key rocks are in, you probably will not change anymore. As for lighting, I guess you just wasted some money by fixing the railing the wrong way round. If you can, see if you can ask for it to be mounted the other way round so you can pull the lights in/out which will help in maintenance and placing of corals. Just my 2 cents worth.
  8. Wah Honkit, finally see your tank (or rather some of the gems in your tank!) I love the zoas and the red gorgnio! If you ever frag or sell these, please let me know! tHE SPS are also very healthy with nice PE!
  9. To be frank.. if you install sideways... might as well fixed it dead.. no need to waste money doing track since I don't you can move sideways also... For rocks, it is worth spending at least to get 1 or 2 big key pieces to scape.. the rest you can add slowly.. Alternatively, check out fellow reefers who decomm.. they usually sell cheap and encrusted with coralline algae.. If MP40 can't fit.. i'm not sure what you want.. there's no "wireless" wavemaker in the market... if you do your research.. As some of them has mentioned, try use it on the cabinet side if you find it obtrusive.. but if you wanna sell the Mp40, i'm sure some reefers will be glad to buy from you. Honestly, I think it's either you didn't plan carefully or the tankmaker didn't advise you properly... most of us can already see so many problems with this built... hopes it turn out alright... Good luck!
  10. Just some short answers.. others can help too.. 1) yes, prefer as less hassle... can ask them to fill up your spare containers as you will should do a 50% water change subsequently. 2) You can, and should if you have the space. If no space, go look at Eniram's thread.. he has a small DIY box as refugium. Go read up the benefits of having one. 3) No experience with Resun chiller but heard a lot... seems like not reliable, themostat always not accurate.. so pls do some research.. If you opt for Artica, 1/4 or even 1/5 shd be ok for 2ft 4) Not necessary but good to have. You may set it up but ended up not using if lack discipline. 5) Many issues.... but main thing is it must fit all the equipments you wanna run or may run... Be it width, height etc. 2nd is must be high and big enough that the backflow won't cause flood...
  11. You may want to get some nice FIJI Rocks from CF... looks much better and porous, good for scaping.
  12. for false ceiling i think they will need to cut a hole, insert a wooden plank to reinforce before you can mount the lighting.
  13. nice looking eel... is it predatory though?
  14. How many times really depends on what fishes you keep and how matured your tank is.. if tank is very matured, full of pods etc... even dont feed for a few days still ok.. Also, if have mainly algae grazer, your dirty algaed wall is also their food source... as well as algae on your rocks. For anthias etc, they requires more frequent feeding.. but generally I think twice a day is good enough. You can always throw in a little extra, be it mysis, brine, coral food or henry's gourmet etc.
  15. Desi runs the IQ5 skimmer.. anyway, the tank is decommed as she shifted office and now back at our home Maybe will be my next project! LOL
  16. more like constantly evolving... jacky brings the concept for "Live Marine Tank" to a whole new level.. everyday new scape.. like change screensaver!
  17. If anyone go CF, please see if the GA is feeding at all.. Thanks:) Also, looking for Hawaiian FA or shepardi..
  18. Up to you but I won't recommended adding livesand after u finish cycling..
  19. 2 packs of sand prob cover your tank with less than 1 inch of sand... you can go caribsea website, they have a calculator for the amount of sand required.
  20. Agree with Comycus.. perhaps adding a support line in the middle will help. I know its due to the weight... for me it just abt peace of mind.. I love the tank though! nice shallow tank and so big!
  21. Very nice new set up! looking forward to this Yes, pls share more details
