  1. I had this discussion with my friend last night. does driving a big sports car give you contentment in life? I'm pragmatic. I don't sacrifice money in order to have physical comforts like that. sure, I'm a guy and it's nice to have roving eyes on me and my car, especially if it's a flashy car. but what is the point of buying such an expensive car, and having to pay expensive maintenance? not to mention, the potential of your car being scratched by jealous Singaporeans is multiplied by ten if you drive a flashy car. this isn't a case of sour grapes coming from me, but merely my personal point of view. whatever that was typed was not done to spite anybody. and if somebody drives a flashy car and has personal contentment in life, then good for you! (= let them do what they want with their money. it is theirs after all. we can only sit back here and envy, but envy will make us go no where. I say we be contended with what we have, for there are certain things that we have that rich people may not have. like happiness. or bliss. (= peace.
  2. classic symptoms of stress related disorder. take a break. chill out. enjoy the finer moments in life. if need be, beat somebody up. but make sure it's a barbie doll. and it belongs to a girl you hate most. and relax.
  3. get a Beckett if you can afford the astronomical price you will have to pay for maintenance, in terms of electrical consumption. do not be put off by what other people say, what "you can spend so much on chiller bills, why cannot spend some more on electricity bills." because at the end of the day, you are the one paying the bills, not them. (= PS. I use AquaC EV180 for my 4 by 2 by 2.5 and it skims out gunk. if you've seen my tank, you would know how overloaded it is. so yah. (= ask people who have seen my skimmer in action. hehz.
  4. what is your market price then? their pricing differs from specimen to specimen. certain pairs have very bold colourations, and certain pairs don't. those with good colourations would fetch a higher price, due to the demand/supply ratio. and besides, you do get discount at Coralfarm. take a look at your invoice. sometimes got 20% discount one.
  5. oh. hmm. altogether how much did it cost you?
  6. so you put them in external casings? or you slot them into PC? also, the external casing comes with it's own power supply is it? if that is the case, then good good good. need to look for one that has both firewire and USB....so can use Firewire for notebook, but USB for PC.
  7. so you got a 120gb HDD, which was meant for a desktop I presume? and then slotted it into an external HDD casing?
  8. Vinoth... any recommendations for notebook use? coz all this is good to be used with desktop coz the desktop has its own continuous power supply. but for notebook.....having all that features will probably drain the battery life even faster. so any recommendations?
  9. tank and sump can be quite cheap. the cost increases astronomically when a cabinet comes into play, especially chennai wood cabinet. even worse if you opt to use thicker amounts of chennai wood for the beams.
  10. OR6500 lor. low wattage, able to push 6000l/hr worth of water. but not pressure rated though.
  11. brand new, around the area of $400 if I'm not wrong.
  12. search around the forum a bit. I think tyrobin asked the same questions and was given a good and solid reply. (=
  13. $3000 is possible, if he quotes you starfire glass. the cost of starfire glass, for my 4ft tank, for only one piece, is good enough to buy another 4ft tank with cabinet altogether. if you want, I can help you refer to a tankmaker for quotation.
  14. my tank maker, is the same as dradttg and alanseah. as in, at that point of time, it was a sort of partnership. the newer tanks like piglet and Ekia and nim75sg, is done by a single person and Octo isn't involved, if I'm not mistaken. I still refer back to his partner and not Octo himself, as I do not have Octo's number. I hope this clears up the air. (=
  15. what is your budget first? if it's reasonable, why don't you go get a brand new OR 6500.
  16. RRP isn't set by internal committee, but rather the agent that brings the camera in. unless the internal committee is the agent itself, then fair enough. how can the internal committee have a say in how much the camera can be sold for? or a certain product for that matter. the IC can only enforce it and say you must not sell above RRP or below your cost. that's all. either that, or I'm wrong. and parallel importers do not enjoy local warranty rights, unless they exclusively go pay a premium with the local agent. but by doing that, you need to recover your cost, and the price difference will be the same as those that come in with an agent authorising it.
  17. ahaha. a close friend of mine saw my AquaC in action and he said that it's working really well for my overloaded tank. and you should know how overloaded my tank is. but my Moorish Idol just died mysteriously. was swimming around happily, and dead a few hours later. =( but nevermind. not intending to add any more fish into the system. so all this fatalities should help in reducing bio load naturally. but still. sad lah. =(
  18. I read somewhere that there is actually a lot more differences. something to do with Chlorophyll A and Chlorophyll B, and the classification of it. anybody does AUSTMAT Bio? it's in the book.
  19. eh Robin..... tsk tsk. I never knew you were going into Beckett skimmers! what happened to the AquaC mod?
  20. what pump are you using to drive it? need to try to convince my mother to change the Teco 680 as well. ahaha. ....
  21. I always, without fail, get my stuff from Cathay Photo. the guys at Peninsula Plaza are especially friendly, and are always willing to answer every idiotic question I throw at them. be it lens material, thread size, speed, etc, they always never fail to answer with a smile on their face. not to mention they don't take it personally if you say you don't want the product. I can't say the same for Alan Photo. I've been there a couple of times and a couple of times I've been....well, treated with answers that sound like as if he could do without my sales. so I'm not too pleased with their serivce overall. if you want, you can check out John 3:16 at Funan. they offer quite good service there as well, although I've heard one complain from a person, saying that they actually laugh at newbies there etc. overall, shop around at the more established places like Cathay/Alan first. get the price quotations, find out what is included in any packages, and then go bargain hunting. the best place to do bargain hunting will be Sim Lim Square. but if I'm not mistaken, most cameras now have a price protection system there. meaning to say that the agent actually sets a price at which they can sell at. or an RRP. a shop will most likely not sell below the RRP simply because it will not be maximising it's profits, unless it's ultra confident that this move will allow it to have a larger customer base. so check out Sim Lim Square and find out whether they sell below a certain price, and if they do sell below a certain price, try and see if there is anything that is short changed. like....exclusion of extra batteries/media/camera bag/etc.
  22. no. return from other country into Changi, the only DFS you can buy is liquor and perfume. not even cigarettes. electronics and everything is only when you leave. I may be wrong though, but I swear this was the case when I came back from Thailand.
