Help !! My Fiji rocks turns pale
terryansimon replied to hamannbmw's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
first time I hear the rock can turn sandy one. you mean the coraline algae growing on the rock is it? or the rock surface structure itself? -
go search around the forum regarding macroalgae. if I'm not wrong, macroalgae consumes NO3 for its diet. or something along those lines. or maybe they absorb it. you have to cultivate it over time, as in prune the damn thing, as it may actually release the NO3 back into the water if the older shoots die off. thats my five cents worth. it may not be true, so don't accuse me of anything

scum of the earth like that thief need not necessarily have placed whatever he stole in his tank. he could have sold it of to someone else, for that matter. whatever it is I hope he gets struck down with vengance *thinks pulp fiction*

nope nope. got this lobang from a friend during my NS days. told him I'd be getting five sets and he gave me one set, one non Sony controller, two 8mb Sony memory cards, vertical stand that doubles as a multi tap/DVD remote control for $400. I still think that was a good deal.

which is better? Eheim 2213 or Atman 3335?

wah you so kan chiong for what. post here and make a poll on it as well. hehz. -
don't remind me. I had a torrid time taking photographs of fireworks during NDP for the past two years because of the slow writing speed. especially when in BULB mode. sian siah.... those are the times I wish I had a decent film SLR. but under normal mode, my D30 can go up to 5 shots before requiring 10secs to write everything down into my microdrive. hehz. pathetic, eh?

a tripod is important, but the statement about shakey hands and digital cameras is not completely true. film SLR cameras also will experience "ghosting", aka camera shake when image is being taken. the only way to prevent it is. a) tripod tripod c) tripod d) tripod yes the emphasis on the tripod. but then, some clown friends of mine, get tripod and they'll still get camera shake. then its time to get a cable release or something like that. this will prevent you to have direct contact with the camera if you need to release the shutter. another cheaper way to go around using a tripod is a) brace yourself against a sturdy object. and make sure your hands are supported. like rest yourself ontop of a table. increase the shutter speed. this however, must be compensated with decreasing your f/stop number, which increases the apperture to allow more light to go in since you're starving the camera of light c) use a flash. to prevent white washing of flash, try to meter your flash against the subject, and drop down +- 1 value on the flash rating. this will cause the flash to be slightly less warm in colour I think. not too sure on this rating already. alternatively is to have your flash bounce of something *like a wall, ceiling, reflector* instead of having it face the object directly.

you can install a check valve? something like that the human vein has....check valves to prevent blood backflow. not sure if they have such thing in pipings, though. but should have lah.

Electrical current in water
terryansimon replied to pondfisher's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
stray current can leap boundaries. from fan to water. of course it must have a medium to leap through lah. since the fan is in indirect contact with the tank, it is highly possible to have a leap in this electrical energy field. (= as for grounding wire. well. certain electrical gurus here told me that its useless to change it to those three pin plug types, as the original wire doesn't have the grounding wire attached to it in the first place. I don't know, I may have misquoted them by typing this. best to let them answer your question directly. (= -
I think CO2 is to work in tandem with the calcium reactor. whatever for, I don't know as chemically, CA will react with CO2 to give a form of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO2 or 3, can't remember. damn my chemistry!) hmm. I don't know.

imho, should be okay. its a form of seeding. but what on earth are you going to bring over? the wool filter is too big for a canister. I can only forsee you bringing stuff like bio rings/balls over. =\

it may just be the TV going bonkers. get someone to come and check it out. alternatively, your fish tank may be creating an EMF that may affect the TV to a certain extent. happens to my car once in a while. the remote controller just doesn't want to work sometimes in certain areas, especially at Railway Mall. I look like a fool standing beside my car trying to lock it with the remote control. in the end I got fedup and just manually lock it.

Percula Clown Pair Fighting
terryansimon replied to maxifire's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
trust me I've seen maxifire's two clown fishes having a go at each other. he bought them as a mated pair from Coralfarm, but due to his fan breaking down one day, his fish probably got stressed out and they started fighting each other. the smaller one, the male, has had its fins bitten off. the upper dorsal I think. not too sure on fish anatomy. and its normally the bigger one, the female, picking out on it first. however the male sometimes wants to have a go at it as well. -
yi ren sao jiang yi ji. damn my hanyu sucks. one man less say one sentence. (= I'm sure its just a mis-interpretation and mis-communication going on here. (=

hurhurhur. just go join them. they have a inner team in there which encourages extreme driving. I don't know what they mean by it as I've never been onto one of their sessions. but its definitely not your run of the mill "rounding" session. or get a Subara and go up to PG with the Subaru Club Singapore every month.
