Thanks for the info. At least now I know cleaner must be quarantined.

I had this worry too but read that the yellowtail damsel is less aggressive. Selected them to be "break" my new tank since damsel should be the hardest fish ard? Hmm, maybe I can start with the chromis instead.

Anyone has/had experience keeping these fishes? Can share your experience? Will like to know what you feed them? Any problem with other fishes, etc, etc.

I know that fishes need to be quaranine for 2 weeks. However does the cleaner shrimp, snail and starfishes also need to be quarantine? Anyone can share your experience?

Hi all, I'm currently planning on the type and number of fishes that I will like to have in my 4 x 2 x 1.5 FOWLR tank. Question: how many fishes can I have in this dimension? My shortlisted fishes as follows; 1) Yellowtail Blue Damselfish 2) Blue Chromis 3) Royal Gramma Basslet 4) Yellowstripe Maroon Clownfish 5) Mimic Lemon Peel Tang 6) Flame Angelfish (Dwarf Angel) 7) Passer Angelfish 8) Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish Will these combination work out? I actually wanted to include the Six Line Wrasse but read that it will attack invert and may have problem with other fished thus omitted it. Does anyone have problem keeping a Wrasse? Do give me your opinion. Thank you

Hi, Just wondering for those of you using this cannister filter, does you guys change the substrate that is provided in the box? I read and heard that bio-ring will cause problem due to dirt stuck in it. What are the recommended substrate to use? I was thinking abt this issue and have a thought. If I have 4-5" of C0 sna d in the cannister bottom, wouldn't that make it a DSB?
-
Dun know if you mind showing me a pics of your lightings? Thanks a million.

Is it really true Henry will keep the fishes bought by customer in a separate tank? It almost as gd as QT then. Does he do it for free or additional charges. If its free, I will definitely dun mind paying slightly more for his fishes.

How to determine actual test kit reading
jc85 replied to jc85's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I'm getting abit worried now. My tank is in the 3rd week of cycling. NH4 is zero. NO2 is ard 100mg/l. NO3 is suspected to be ard 200mg/l (off my test kit chart). According to what I had been reading, NO2 should be peaking but NO3 should not be so high. Could it be because of my high NO2 that resulted in my high NO3? I also suspected my that cannister filter thus changed all the sponges and cleaned the substrate in it (using tank water). Shall I do a huge amount of water change (50%) to reduce the NO3? Will it affect the cycling process? Pls advise. -
Thanks onghm for sharing your experience. Can I check if you raise the lightings from your tank or just place it lying on the tank top? Does it comes with any fans?
-
Anyone use this b4? Any other shops selling this that I can go take a look? Pls help.

Hi AT, will the N03 drops after cycling? Heard that DSB/plenum will take at least 6 months to mature. Is water changing the only way to remove N03?
-
Thanks oshkosh. How long does it take for the QT to cycle? I was tinking of getting a piece of my main tank's LR into thin QT with a few PVC. Most likely skipping the sand. At one time i should have ard 2/3 fishes in the QT. Cheers

Hi Guys, Need some advice on how to setup my 2ft quarantine tank. My main tank is 3.5ft in the 3rd week of cycling. From my understand, QT is recommended to be as below; 1) Almost bare, without sand, LR. Only some PVC for fishes to hide. 2) Simple sponges filter is sufficient. Sponge to be left in the main tank to allow bacteria to house on it. Question: Shall i place this sponge on my ehiem cannister? How many days should it be in there? 3) half water from main tank and half new mixed saltwater. Question: Can I have all new mixed saltwater since my main tank is still cycling now? Or do I have to wait until my main tank is fully cycled b4 preparing my QT?

U should really kick ur friend. <joking> Anyway, do read the sticky on more of marine tank. I myself is new to the hobby and those sticky are useful but definitely not enough. Do more research on the web and get a few gd books to read. As the guru in here will tell u, patience is the key to this hobby. And pls, get someone to adopt ur LS b4 all are gone. regards

How to determine actual test kit reading
jc85 replied to jc85's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I'm more worried of the nitrates. My test kit's chart only have up to 100mg/l. Can I use the above method to determine the result that exceed the chart? -
I'll like to have one too. 1) Woon Ming (1order) 2) Joop (1 order) 3) Hoppinghippos (1 order) 4) JC85 (1 order) 5) 6) 7) 8)

Hi guys, My 4ft tank is in the 3rd week of cycling. NH4 is zero now. NO2 has raised until it exceeded the color chart. Can I get the actual reading (amount) of the nitrites condition in my tank with such test kit. I tried diluting the solution until it record zero reading. Below are the steps I had taken. 1) Took 5ml of the tank water 2) Add the test solution into tube 3) Color is dark red and is definitely over the chart provided by the test kit(tetra) 4) I added another 5mg to the tube. Color is still very red 5) Remove 5mg from the tube. 6) Add the 2nd 5mg into the tube 7) color drop to the 4th zone on the chart 8) I repeated the step (5) to (7) until the color changed to yellow representing zero reading. 9) In total, I did this topup of 5mg 4 times. Does that means that the actual nitrites I have in my tank now is 33mg/l(max reading on the chart) * 4(number no topup) = 132mg/l ? Am i right to assume the above?

I have the intention of getting the below lightings but need some advice. ==================== ATI Twin-Fix Retrofit - 2 x 39 watts / 3 feet According to our sponsor webbie, the "Default Packaging with 1xATI Sun Pro and 1xATI Blue Plus". ======================= 1) Any review on it? 2) What is the total weight of this light? 3) Does it have stands? To raise it away from the tank surface. Thanks

Hi Guys, Need some advise on the lighting that I intend to get for my FOWLR 3ft tank. Will be having fish only initiately but intend to keep some soft coral eventually (maybe 6months later?). I I get the below lightings, will it be sufficient? ATI Twin-Fix Retrofit - 2 x 39 watts / 3 feet According to our sponsor webbie, the "Default Packaging with 1xATI Sun Pro and 1xATI Blue Plus". Thanks for your advise in advance. cheers

My Bio filtration shall be done mainly by LR (~50Kg) & LS (5" DSB). Thus the cannister shall be doing chem & Mechanical filtration. What do you recommend me to put in the cannister. I'll guess I have to do regular maintenance to minimise it becoming a nitrates factory. Is Twice weekly sufficient or weekly?
