Maybe u wan to get one from LFS? Yellow tang is pretty common.

You are right. Normally, a 3" is only a normal seabed. You'll need at least 4" - 6" to make a Deep Sand Bed. Some expert can do without test kits but its definitely recommended that any newbie like you and myself to use testkits. There's a few test kits that will defintely be very useful even after ur tank is cycled. e.g. pH, NO3, alk. As for NH3/4, NO2, if you can "tahan" not adding any livestock for 3mths and just wait for your tank to cycle, you can leave them out. If you are adding more uncured LR now, you'll probably create another NH3/4 spike depending on the amount. Thus prolonging your cycling period. However, its always better to add them now then later. cheers

Sorry to interupt, I just found a LFS in hougang, Simon Road beside a clinic last week. Its near the Kovan MRT station. Yes, its a full marine LFS operated by a malay couple. Anyone been there or know them? I didn't really get to look at their stock cause in a rush but noticed they do have LR, corals and fishes. -
Shouldn't be a problem. I had those $8/kg LR when cycling and the spike came the NH3/4 spike came the 3rd day. In the end, completed my cycling within 4 weeks. Sit tight and relaz. Cheers

Price of full set up 4ft glass tank by LFS
jc85 replied to braun's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I'm sure if u get LFS to do up everything, it will be much more expensive since they need to make a profit rite? Before that, I'll like to share something that I read in a book. the author mentioned that basically there are 3 type of people that want to keep marine. 1) Those who want to have marine in their house as a decoration. Will always get LFS to built and mantain the tank for them. 2) Those who use the tank as an "educational" purpose for their kids. Dun bother to maintain the tank properly. 3) Those who really like and enjoy marine stuff. This group of people can classified as hobbyist to the author. The author also comments that his experience of been a LFS owner, he find out that those falls under grp 1 and 2 dun keep marine for long (less than 2 yrs). Thus, my suggestion will be for you to really consider which grp you fall in. If you are sure you belongs to grp 3, i'm sure you'll enjoy the time spent on doing the whole setup on your own. Cheers -
Serious Discussion on Buying / Selling / Trading
jc85 replied to Achilles Tang's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
Hi Guys, My personal thoughts are; any thing for sale should be just between the Seller and Buyer in this forum. If SRC gets too involved, SRC might as well develop into ebay or yahoo sort of webbie instead. I strongly dun think its the direction SRC should go to. As for pictures, yes, any pic uploaded must be personal as it infringe copyrights thus getting SRC in trouble if the other party insist in taking actions. Should there be any unhappiness with the sales conducted like product faulty or not to expectation, both party should settle it themselves. If there's any doubts on either party, maybe a PM to moderator may be sufficient since moderator can utimately ban anyone if found guilty? No need to go public as any comments from individual may not be true (benefit of the doubts). Just my 2 cents -
Those small white stuff should be some pods. Dun have to worry to much of them. I had mine when my tank was cycling. They are suppose to be benefical to ur tank and are food to some fishes.

Since the title of this thread is "AT's Speech", why not? hehehe

Getting clowns used to new stuffs..
jc85 replied to bwilly's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I also got 2 True Percula last weekend. However, I do not have any anemone for them to host and they are always hanging ard the top corner of my tank including eat and sleep. There's where all my pipe and powerheads are. Wonder how they manage to sleep there. hmm... Is it common? My thought was that they maybe still uncertain of the tank thus dare not explore further? Any advise? -
I dun mind if u stay in East. I stay in Hougang. hee
-
Where u staying? Interested in getting 4 of ur snails.
-
Ur setup almost the same as mine. I've also converted my FW to marine and is using Ehiem Pro II 2026 cannister. In your list, you did not mention LR? I think you'll need ard 30 -40kg of them. As for lights, I think you need to do some research more on what you intend to keep before deciding on what type of lights you need, PL, T5 or MH? Just a note, MH will normally result in gettting chiller although some of fellow reefers are able to maintain the temp using diy fans (not easy tot). Wavemaker will cause quite a fair bit, many people uses just powerhead instead. Enjoy your new hobby. cheers

Anyone have experience with Kole Tang? Almost wanted to get one over the weekend but managed to resist buying b4 finding out more. I'm concern if it will nip on soft corals and will it accept feeding?

Started my tank the second time
jc85 replied to Yellowbelly's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hi Yellowbelly, I'm sure nobady here is trying to be nasty. As this is a forum, the way we phrase our sentence at times maybe mis-interpreted. Thus we have the smilies to help show our intentions. As for your setup, if mentioned that u had restarted and it is in the 3rd week. Based on your setup, I'll guess that you are in the NO2 spike period. Since NO2 is toxic to all LS, it is really not advisable to have any LS in the tank although those super hardy fishes may survive. In SRC, we emphasis on "Responsible Reefing". If you had not get any testkits, I'll advise that you get the NO2 testkit asap. After the NO2 is zero, it is time to test the NO3. For fish only setup, NO3 should be kept at least below 20mg/l if not zero. As for gd LFS, do lookup the LFS section in SRC. For gd and friendly advise, look for Henry at ML (at times he is very busy). Enjoy your reefing. -
Which anthias fish did u get btw? I rem reading a thread in FOWLR section that a senior here bought a Fathead anthias fish b4. U might wan to search 4 the thread?
