Henry (marinelife) is using it for his tank (by the doorway). U can do a search in SRC for Wave2k and quite a few links that discuss about it. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...=9490&hl=wave2k Another alternative is to use a wavebox from Tunze. Cheers JC

The tide wait for no people. Thus most of these trips are conducted in the early hours. Cheers JC -

So who is leading this coming Sentosa walk from ###### Hermit Crap? JC -
Wow. For a planted tank in 1980s, this got to be the most high tech planted tank. Nice work there. Cheers JC

Have u test the water? Has the cycling ended? A point to note, when ur tank has juz finish cycling, go slow with ur stocking. Best to adhere to one fish per week. The most 2 for those small fishes. Reason, everytime we add new fishes, the tank will go into a mini cycle to cope with the new bio-load. This is especially true for those tank with limited LRs. Cheers JC
-
I hope u did not scrub ur Lrs with freshwater? If so, u'll probably need a even longer time for cycling. Btw, do note that u do not need to use any fish for cycling if u have testkits. Advice to test the NH4, NO2 in the 1st 2 weeks. If possible every 2-3 days. After the 2 week, start testing NO2 and NO3. You'll see a cycling process. The ammonia spike will happen sometime in the 1st week. Followed by NO2 spike and NO3. Once u start measuring zero NO2 for at least 3 days, u can safetly say ur ammonia cycling is over. As for clownfish, they have a symbiotic relationship with anemone. They seek shelter from predator in the anemone while the anemone benefit from its crumps of food. reefs.org has a gd table that shows which clown is compatible to which anemone. http://www.reefs.org/library/compatibility.html Cheers JC

Btw, juz saw that ur water level is abit lot. Any reason to fill it so low? It will be gd if you can add more LRs. LRs provide means for biological filtration and is always the "1st line of defense". Cheers JC

I'll suggest u remove the active carbon from the cannister and replace it with more biohome or equivalent. Try to get a FR for the carbon. Coral chip... hmm... I'm not a fan in using coral chip. Too un-predictable. Suggest u replace them with biohome or equivalent too. What type of testkit u using? Are the LRs cured? Cheers JC
-
I'll suggest that you pop over the general section and spend sometime going through the sticky for beginners. You probably have overstock your tank too fast and before the cycling end. Any idea what u use in ur cannister? Cheers JC

how eco-friendly/ reef-friendly are we really?
jc85 replied to jacobus's topic in General Reefkeeping_
There are definitely some good that came out from this hobby. Imo, we/human learnt alot more of the lives of the deep blue sea. We understand to certain extend how they survive and their habit. These probably will take double the timeline for scientist to find out without the maturity of the hobby trade. JC -

As long as its not one of those in the endangered or going to be species and cites. It should be fine. If the equipment is essential, why not? U'll not want to have lifestock dying often and changing them every now and then, This is something I serious do not agree with. Nvr release alien species into Singapore habitat. This will only seriously affect the local bio-diversity. This will be ideal but from the look of the process, its still a long way off. Refugium, NSW? Definitely a no go. Always use energy efficient equipment. Its gd for the environment and ur pocket at the same time. The only thing that I feel not eco-friendly abt our hobby is the energy comsumption. However, after much thought, imho, as long as you have done your best to use those equipment that gave you best performance in terms of power consumption, you definitely will be able to sleep soundly at nite. Another point that might be gd to note, always buy cites livestock and if possible only those farmed corals. It will be an ideal situation if the local reefing community can actively exchange frags. Cheers JC -
Yuma is also a type ricordea. Just tat its not Ricordea Florida. Cheers JC

Well.... Since u are interested in AT. U should have done ur due diligent and research into it instead of asking ppl to answer u. In any case, if u have done ur research, u'll know that most tang especially AT need lots of swimming space. Not sure how big is ur tank but already having 5 tangs, u'll probably need at least a 6 footer to include another AT. http://www.aquahobby.com/marine/e_Acanthurus_achilles.php http://animal-world.com/encyclo/marine/tangs/achilles.php Even a simple search on "achilles tang" in SRC brought up many links. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...topic=43754&hl= http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...topic=56940&hl= http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...topic=55710&hl= Cheers JC

Lovely comet. Is it leaving ur shrimp alone? Wow. U sure have a nice LPS tank. Cheers JC

Wow. 1st month trying SPS already? Care to share ur equipment setup and parameters? Imo, the seio look abit too big for ur tank. Ever consider trying the Hydor Koralia 1/2 which has much smaller footprint? Cheers JC
