I was also having excessive NO3 in the 3rd week of my cycling (>100mg/l) and did 2 water change in a week. 1st change is ard 20% and the 2nd ard <50%. The NO3 had since came down to 20mg/l. Just to share my experience. Cheers

I believe you really need to decide what are the fishes you want to have in the 1st place and always plan for their adult size eventually. I rem reading somewhere that at least 1gallon for 2" size fishes. That means if you have a tang that eventually grow to 8", a 56gallon tank can ard 10 fishes (provided the numbers is accurate). Just my 2cents

Hi Tanzy, my main intention for my cannister is also for mechanical filtration and chemical since I had ~50kg LR adn a 5" DSB. Does that means that I should remove the substrate 1st until I need the chemical filtration than add the appropriate substrate?
