This sounds stupid but it look like a robot fish.

Interested in the fan. Comes with any clip/stand?

Saw the holland village tank a week ago. Nothing much. Think there was a tang and a stingray.

Amphere rating should be more important than wattage, correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a 5" DSB using Grade 0 sand. Its has since managed to reduced my NO3 to zero after 5-6months. Suggest that u add a layer of fine gauze so that you can prvent those sand digging fishes (if u intend to keep) from disturbing ur DSB. I regretted not doing this for my tank, no Goby for me. Cheers JC

Actually, I do get some "green tea" bubbles within an hour of running. However, they are not "sticking" to the wall of the tube thus I cstill onsider the skimmer (skimmer and pump as a whole set) as not skimming. In my personal term, when there are dirt/skimmate (not neccessary on the collection cup) that start to stick to the wall, the skimmer can be consider as broken in. This is because as long as these dirt do not re-enter the tank, the skimmer has done its job.

In actual fact, the skimmer starts to collect skimmate after ard 24hrs. Did not post any pictures due to the power failure incident. Imho, even if the break-in takes 2days (athough it is actually 1day in my case) is still acceptable. My old weipro took me almost 1week to break in (although they are both of different class). The reason why I believe it takes me 1 day to break in is due to my new pump (MD40). Bro weileong is right, the tube on the MD40 when new has a layer of grease in them. Cheers JC

There's also another UPS brand, MGE UPS system. I actually wrote in to enquire about their Pulsar Evolution series UPS. According to Mr Robin in MGE Asia, its give Sinewave output whon on battery. 2 years warranty and the MGE Pulsar Evolution 1500VA tower UPS cost $900+. Wonder if anyone here knows how to get these UPS cheaper. JC

Yes. Its has been running on MD40. Never change. Sure. Will arrange with you. Been busy with work while preparing for my In-camp.

Converting from cannister to sump

The switch takes a day but preparation took me weeks..... -
Conclusion With this new Reef Maniacs Miniature Reef Beckett Skimmer that can be operated with a MD40 pump, a new arena for local reefers has been opened. Previously reefer that has issues listed below can now also own a “value for money” beckett skimmer without compromising efficiency and performance. 1) High bio-load 2) Has problem with limited space constraint in cabinet, (this skimmer is nicely built to even be placed out of cabinet) 3) Though that beckett skimmer cost too much, 4) Need an in-sump skimmer Cheers JC

Maintenence Due to the big collection cup design and the possibility of having external cup, those who travel often will be able to have a piece of mind. From the design, in the event where the collection cup needs to be remove for whatever reason (including cleaning), the skimmer need not be shut down. The water level can simply be lower to a level where water will not overflow without the collection cup. This will ensure that the skimmer is always ready to skim again after maintenance. According to Reef Maniacs, this range of skimmer may have the option to upgrade in future. Thus if a reefer eventually decide that they need a more powerful skimmer, they can opt to the upgrade this skimmer at a fraction of the cost compare to buying a brand new skimmer.

Based on the amount of skimmate this skimmer produced in its first 3 days, I'm presently surprise on its efficiency. Initially, thought that it may take at least 3 days before any foam will be produce but I was wrong. It may well be the pump (MD40) that needs breaking in.

Performance: Part 2 After running the skimmer for 2 days, I adjusted the air valve to half opened. No doubt, smaller bubbles are created and based on my observation; there are still lots of potential for this skimmer to create fine bubbles for those reefers that like dry skimmates. Pictures after 3 days (72hrs), I believe the skimmer has more or less broken in.

Performance: Part1 After running the skimmer for 24hrs, foam starts to form. However, it is not sufficient to really skim out much dirt and it is this day when the worst blackout in 11years occurs. Thus I was not able to take any pictures of the foam. Apologies. As mentioned in my earlier reply, I have since adjusted the water level and left the air valve around ¾ opened. On the 2nd day (48hrs), much more foam are rushing up to the top of the tube. Can even see that much dirt is been collected on the wall of the tube. However, due to the large bubbles produced (3/4 opened air valve), the skimmate are pretty watery. Below are the pictures of the skimmer on 2nd day.
