Now tat i recalled, think SE do come in 150W version. I ever bought a 250W MH set from a fella reefer here and its supposingly to be 250W bulb but the bulb kinda of shorter and smaller than the actual 250W bulb and suprisingly can be screw into the E40 holder and powered up by the 250W ballast w/o blowin the bulb . Since its suppose to be a radium bulb but its kinda of yellowish so a check with the seller confirm its not a 250W bulb and got it changed. A check with victron would be advisable to see if they carry 150W SE but the base shd be different, think its a E27 or E37(not sure) holder or mayb E40 holder will work too. The base u mentioned shd be the holder for the DE bulb, like E40 is the holder for the 250/ 400W SE bulb. Take it as u r using 250W ballast now...if u wanna up to 400W, u will nd to change the ballast. ballast are not really tat expensive....its the bulb tats $$$.

Tats true....the higher wattage not only produce more heat but also cost more (in terms of PUB bills). 2x55W PL = 110W so still less heat as compared to the 150W MH. But do note tat 110W only means tat u had 55W per tube per "10inches depth penetration"= (assumption). And 2 x 55W PL doesn't mean u got "20inches depth penetration". U only get "10inches penetration" from each tube, tats all. But a single 150W MH will give u 20inches depth penetration (assumption) and the same theory applies....havin 2x150W doesn't mean havin light penetration up to 40inches of depth.

No, u will nd to change the ballast set as well. Would strongly suggest u to go for 150W min. IMO, 70W is too weak....use it for refugium still ok. UV protected meanin the bulb is made of UV glass to shield off those harmful UV rays. As for non UV protected = the opposite. Unlike SE bulbs DE bulbs are not UV protected. So tats y, pple gettin DE MH set always hunt for UV glass (if not included in the set).

Tats the prob, u mentioned only actinic in the first place and tats y pple misunderstood abt ur lightin. Well...hope u proceed to get a small quarantine tank, those FivePlan tank will do...cheap cheap only. Wat u doing now is juz to let ur new fish get use to the new environment but not preventin new disease from gettin into ur main tank. Goodluck with them.

Bro...quarantine is to house the newly bought fish in another tank and observe for any complication and tat can take up to one mth. Coz u nvr knw whether the fish u juz bought got any disease (ICH) or nt and if yes, then u can provide the necessary medication. From wat i've seen....u house them in another separate contaniner in ur main tank and if they do have ich, it will be spread to ur main tank. Too late liaoz . Anyway, IMO the container u used will be useful only when after u had quarantined ur fish and u use it to house tat fish for a couple of days to let it get use to the new environment before lettin it into the main tank.

Dun really get u regarding i have filled to abt 6 inches which left my around 4 inches. Do u mean frm surface of DSB to water surface is 4inches? If yes, 150W would be fine.....coz IMO 250W kinda of too high for sump and especially if ur sump is in the cabinet, its gonna be a sauna in there. Infact i m thinkin of gettin a 70W MH runnin on a 6500k to be placed in cabinet and abt 4-5inches above water...juz for my present reguifum though. Lastly, as long there r moderate water movements in ur sump, its alrite.

For 150W, i believe they only come in DE version. So u r leave with no alternatives if u oreadi owned a 150W MH. Else i would reckon u to go for 250 SE...coz the E40 holder can be fixed on the spider reflector and the SE bulb is UV shield...no nd to headache on where to get UV glass for DE.
