Yup, had plans for a smaller size tank runnin on single MH only. But tat hav to wait till hse movin r completed. So in the meanwhile after clearin all corals will be keepin fishes only.

Answerin ur thread. The BLV 20K bulb will give ur tank a blue look. Do note, the 20k bulb is also low on par as compared to 10k. After burnin in (3-4mths time) it will give a blue/whitish look. Juz do a search huntin for those members who r using 14k bulb or radium blub in the members tank section and u shd be able to see the effects of the 20k bulb.

Due to the recent heated issues over in SRC, since then alot have wanted to make SRC a better place juz like before rather than seeing tis wonderful forum goin dwn the drain flooded with flaming, chit chattin, inaccurate info.....etc. We have addressed both the problem and solution, infact i noticed there r improvement going on oreadi. Set the reactor at a fairly low CO2 bubble count and a low effluent flow rate. Most manufacturers suggest guidelines, which for my reactor was 40 drips per minute of effluent water and 10 bubbles per minute of CO2. Step 2) Then adjust the pH within the reactor to approximately pH 6.5 to 6.7 for dissolving the medium. First, measure the pH of the effluent exiting the reactor with a test kit or pH probe (I recommend a pH meter as most pH test kits are not sufficiently accurate). If the pH is too high, reduce the effluent flow rate; if the pH is too low, increase it. Allow a few hours for the reactor to respond to the changes, and repeat this step until the pH value is between 6.5 and 6.7. Step 3) Monitor the tank alkalinity level to ensure that the reactor is supplying enough calcium carbonate to replace that being used by the animals in the tank. An alkalinity test kit may be used to measure these levels (1 mEq/L change in alkalinity is only 20ppm calcium!). For future reference, it is a good idea to keep a logbook of the tank's alkalinity level and any adjustments you have made to it. Measure and record alkalinity every few days and compare the readings. If the alkalinity level is falling, increase the amount of CO2 so more of the medium is dissolved. Conversely, if the alkalinity level is rising above the level you want, reduce the amount of CO2 so less of the medium is dissolved. Of course, making adjustments to the CO2 rate will affect the pH level inside the reactor. A quick fix to keep the pH stable is to make the same adjustment to the effluent flow rate as you make to the CO2. For example, if you double the CO2 rate, double the effluent rate, too; this is only a rule of thumb, but should prove effective. When finished, double-check the effluent to verify that it is still around pH 6.5. If not, you can repeat step 2. Step 4) After the reactor is set up, check the tank alkalinity levels periodically for a few weeks to take into account the calcium carbonate requirements of any new additions and coral growth in tank. Also, as the medium becomes depleted you may need to re-adjust the reactor, or refill it. If adjustments are required, simply fine-tune the reactor using the steps outlined above.

DB, this is wat i would do. 1. Quarantine the bannerfish in a Q-tank and get them to feed on (eg, mysis, bs, pellets......etc). If they r feedin oreadi, lagi better. 2. Place in a couple of corals tat r known to be nipped by bannerfish and monitor. 3. Feed them at least twice a day and hopefully they stay full to leave ur coral alone. 4. If well fed and still nip on corals then its up to u to determine their fate. 5. Else if too lazy then juz make sure they r feedin first before intro into main tank, feed them "pa pa" everyday and pray tat they leave ur reef alone

Juz remember to use product like Seachem Prime/ Nutrafin to remove chlorine and chlormite from the tap water. Nxt, is to cycle ur tank together with ur LRs. Dump in phospate remover frm start like wat Tiny Tears mentioned is greatly advisable. Save u the hassle of hair algae problem in future but this phospate remover need to be replaced preiodically. Regardin NSW, IMO as long the water doesn't come in contact with any LS from the LFS they r safe. But luggin home bags or containers of NSW r back breakin. Juz buy marine salt and mix better. Our LRs do not produce live zooplankton Try feeding them BBS or cyclopeeze.

Some of food pple used to feed their sps. GP, live rotifier, coralplankton, zooplankton. Btw cultured rotifers and very fresh live baby brine can feed some... most however need very fine zooplankton/nanoplankton.

Its commn behaviour among certain species of sps. During day dive, one will notice there are very little or no polyps extension at all but during nite dive u will c great polyps extension. Always chk for polyps extension when u r buyin them frm LFS. If they show good polyps extension in the sale tank but little or no extension back hm. Give it a couple of days else fault could lies with the way u intro ur sps, its placement, amount of flow in tat area, water conditions....But do note, little or no polyps extension doesn't mean tat sps is not healthy.

Try increasin ur calcium above the 400 mark and alkalinity to ard 10 and maintain tis parameters. A CR will help in maintain, if u r currently runnin one then u may nd to retune it. If not, regular testin and dosin is required. How's the flow like in ur tank? Good water flow is very impt in a sps tank as they enjoy good water circulation but not direct flow. Tunze will do the job. Any means of nutrients export to counter ur nitrate? Reducing it would be greatly advisable. GPs r good form of food for sps . A mix of 5-50nm and 50-100nm would be great but provided water circulation in the tank r good else some will get it some will not. Do not be too bothered with polyps extension. Some sps juz do not show much polyps extension. Chk out ur tank an hr after light off with a touch lite. U shd c pretty good polyps extension from ur sps. Other than tat, regular dosing of iodide, strongtium r also advisable.

There r no secrets on keepin sps. Success with sps usually revloves ard Matured tank, proper lighting, perfect water conditions, feeding, knowing their requirements etc.
