The Beckett foam generating spray head is designed for increasing the amount of air that is mixed into the water. Skimmers incorporating a Beckett-head often utilize the Beckett in a higher position than the water level and this extra distance allows for an increase in reaction time. Additionally, manufacturers have begun to tangentially inject aerated water into swirling patterns, which also increases contact time. What is most obvious with a Beckett-head is the density and consistency of the foam; it far exceeds any of the other current aeration strategies Needle wheel-directing air into the impeller cavity of a powerhead or small pump to creates bubbles. It works by finely chopping up these air bubbles into very fine bubbles like those found in an airstone driven skimmer. These units are unique in that they have a very slow water flow, generate large amounts of foam, and are cheap to run because they use low power pumps. Venturi: good water flow, good foam production, moderate contact time, requires a powerful pump, valve tends to clog (Lifereef has a self-cleaning venturi valve). Beckett-head skimmer: high water flow, maximum bubble production, moderate contact time (swirling patterns will increase this), requires a very powerful pump, Beckett-head requires cleaning. Needle wheel skimmer: low to moderate water flow, good foam production, good bubble size, excellent contact time, cost-efficient, requires specialized impellor or needlewheel. The needlewheel impellors have been shown to be a weak point.

Nitrate is not the end product of a nitrogen cycle. Nitrogen gas is. Ammonia > Nitrite > Nitrate > Nitrogen gas. To counter nitrate, vinoth and the rest had oreadi mentioned. In the meanwhile, u can try AZNO3 to counter ur present nitrate....heard pretty good review on it though i dun use them. Or u can do more frequent water changes. Nitrate level shd be kept as low as possible. To me 5ppm is consider high. As mentioned ICH is a common fish disease and it can be prevented. If u have fishless now or if can. Remove all ur fishes and have ur tank go fishless for at least a mth to break the ICH cycle. After tat perform water changes (preferably salt mix coz LFS NSW may house ICH if their fish had it) and u can intro fishes with care. All new fishes shd go thru proper quarantine and observation for as long as up to a mth in a quarantine tank. This is also the period where u try to get ur fish to feed and if it were not to make it due to hunger. It can still be easily removed frm ur qurantine tank rather than ur main tank. During this period, observe if fish developed white spot. If do, u can do hyposalinity or copper based treatment but watch the dosage and becareful not to have copper in ur main tank. Continue leaving ur main tank fishless until no fish developed white spot. Water from main tank must be used for quarantine tank. Nxt, place ur fish in a holding container in the main tank and observed for a few days - a week for any sign of white spot. If not, u can release the fish into main tank else remove fish for treatment. In the meanwhile, garlic soaked food will be good for ur fish. U measured ur pH using electronic or chemical testin (color comparism)? Try using electronic for more accurate measurement but do note pH vaires during the day. U can use Seachem reef buffer to raise ur pH. And as for ur skimmer, u have to fine tune it till the foam reaches juz below the base of the inverted 'funnel'.

Seriously bro, ur tank is too new for sps especially with the system and equipments u r running. LS also kinda of high for a plain 3ft tank. U mentioned ur water parameters appears fine? Care to list dwn numbers? Coz the word "fine" is pretty general . Some pple can take N02=0.1, N03=50, P04=0.2......etc as "fine"

Like wat ervine mentioned, inorder for DSB to work...a large area is needed and tats y its better to have DSB in the main tank rather than the sump (to have it in the sump is better than nuthin). To have the best of the 2, have DSB in main tank and sump. Anyway Tineng, to continue puttin ur cannister to good use. U can dump PO4 removal media like Biophos and deniatrator media into the cannister.

Wat is 5-6drops? 5-6drops = 5-6dkh? Anyway, get a reputable KH test kit (salifert..) and test ur KH readin again. Also do a test on ur pH and calcium coz they r interlink. If u still get 5 or 6dkh reading, then dose the Sera addictive u mentioned (provided ur Ca and pH are in acceptable range) until u get the alkalinity level u want to obtain. If u r unable to do so, go for the reefez Alkalinity Plus http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12185 it shd have no prob in helpin u to increase the dkh. Now if u r unable to up ur dkh due to water imbalance (Ca or pH screw up and thus affectin ur KH). Performin water change would help u set ur water back into the proper condition and this may have to be dn quite frequently till u obtain the proper water parameters. Do a 30% water change first and see how is ur Ca, Kh and ph reading is. If only one of it is off then juz do the necessary adjustment with the help of addictives (reefez calcium for Ca, reefez alkalinity plus for dkh or seachem reef buffer for pH adjustment). Pls provide a more detailed headin. U r most probably to receive a waring "tick tock" soon. First determine ur KH level then follow accordingly to the dosing instruction on how much to dose. If unsure and ur KH level is in acceptable range 8-14dkh, then dun dose any. Else dose the minimal amt and test and dose accordingly till u get the level u want.

Hmm...to help u along Water parameters like N02, N03, pH, dkh, temp.......etc Equipment like skimmer, lightin, powerhead for water movement,......etc Tank spec like 3x2x2 Sump 2x1x1. How long have tank been running.
