OMG! Look at these hybrids and rare fishes!

Start to go the way of the luohan craze for marine. Man made manipulated fish, not my cup of tea. -
For me, why I choose 2 x 160w is to replace 2 set of 4 x 54w T5 light set for my 422 tank.

The pump to look into now is the Bubble Blaster pump. Lower wattage than the Eheim. I experienced an expensive lesson with the RD pump so am now a once bitten, twice shy reefer. I do also own the BK Super Marin 250 which also uses the RD pump and am praying very hard that this pump would not konk out on me like the RD return pump model I use. Well, only time will tell though.

Alamak Lemonlemon, you should get a small acrylic box to take a photo of the fishes instead of using a glass cup. You will get a nice clear picture than when using the glass cup as the glass cup would distort the pics.

The lighting thread - post tech/sci info here!

The rule of thumb I am aware of about led is to get the 3w per led for our aquarium use. Maxspect however has a table of what model of their led light set is similar to the output of mh. -
Saw the pics over at RC. Now I know what you were mentioning. Those wrasse looks quite normal at that stage.

I agree, keep the 1264 as backup. I had a RD pump before but use the 1260 back again after using the RD pump for 2 years only. My RD pump is in a plastic bag. Some pump are workhorse while others are not.

Can always ask for a frag mah.

The best thing about Maxspect G2 is the ability to replace a spoilt led bulb. See if other led maker offer this with their led light set.

Hope to meet all the brunneus at the lfs! This kind of fish appeals to me, kinda remind me of apistogramma during my planted tank phase. -
Budget cost for starting a 2 ft marine tank
BFG replied to dirtnitro's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
There is always a choice in this hobby. It's not that you were forced into this hobby but you WANT to have this hobby. Important thing is safety, for you and your loved ones. -
Next time, know what you are buying before you buy. There are other poisonous fish that is being sold in the market. Do your research and don't expect the lfs owner to know which fish is poisonous or not. Do you know coral are poisonous too?

Usually, the 6500k bulb used by planted tank enthusiast are good enough with 8000k being the upper limit for plants to grow. 5000k is the lowest limit in my opinion.

I do not agree. Given time, it will follow the frequency of feeding time of your tank. It can and will open when there is light. Speaking from experience.

Do I need to purchase a separate pump to draw out water from the sump to chiller? No need. You could use a pump to pump water from the sump tank to the chiller and then to the main tank. Where is the water from the chiller usually deposited? To the main tank. Main tank or sump? Main tank. It is more efficient to return to main tank rather than sump tank cause it is inefficient to return it back to sump tank and having another pump to return the cold water back to the main tank. Don't waste the electricity usage. Do I still need to use my return pump in my sump? Most importantly how much will the increase in utility bill be in dollars. I hope you can help me with my questions. Thank you. You'll need only 1 return pump to pump the water to the chiller and then to the main tank. Frankly, be prepared for a $100 increase in your monthly utility bill, if it's cheaper, save you some money right?!? But this is not a money saving hobby so don't expect to spend less. Also, try to get your chiller to be modified with an external temperature probe. With this in place, you do not have to worry whether your pump flow rate is too fast or too slow. It will take the temperature of the actual water temperature that you want the tank to be, not the temperature in the chiller water compartment. More efficient this way. Hope this will help you in your set up.

You repaint your rusty metal stand? Wish you luck. Don't blame the forum here if the stand give way and injured someone in your home. -
Oops, double click.

My advice is for you to sort out the electrical problems first. Find out what is causing the power trip and replace that equipment. If the tank is using too much current that the wall outlet is at max, get some equipment plugged to another outlet. Extension cable are affordable compared to the time and money spent in acquiring your live stock. Replace all multi socket plugs that has salt water sprayed on them, these are easily replaced. The lesser problems you have, the lower your stress level at home. Work always have stress and that's unavoidable.

Nope but I have not been using any live rock for quite a while, a year, maybe more. 100 percent using GO fake live rock and removing half or 1 side of the sand was to accommodate a large piece of GO fake live rock that could stick out of the water if I didn't remove the sand. My procedure was to use 3 large pail, 2 were to be use to make new salt mix while the third was placed on the trolley to be used to collect the siphoned water and sand mixture. And I took some time, 24hr actually, to mix the salt mix before adding it to the tank. That's why it took me 2 weeks to clear half of a 4ft tank. It went like this, 1 day to mix 2 pail of new salt mix. The next day, I siphon out 2 pail of the tank water and sand and add the 2 pail of new salt mix. Wait for a day to let another batch of salt mix fully and repeat the process again.

1w per led where got high? Normal range in my opinion. Important is at what par it is emitting.

This thread could be use as a prime example of doing enough research on your intended live stock. Guess the OP/TS has to learn it the hard way. Hope the OP/TS recover. -
I have removed part of my sandbed while rescaping a few months ago. I use a few large pail and a trolley plus a pump and some length of hose, some are attached to the pump while the other is used to siphon the tank water and sand. Took me 2 weeks to remove half of my sandbed in my 4ft tank and a pail of salt mix.
