Nope. Only neon are captive bred in farms and due to this, they don't last long due to frequent inbreeding( as I was told ). Cardinal are wild caught from Brazil and they do last longer than neon.

MDF boards are kinda like compressed wooden chips. Some big speaker housing are made from it. I had a pair that was destroyed when water touched it. My water piping burst and half of the house was flooded including the main hall in which the speaker was placed there. Once it absorbed water, it will 'balloon' from it's original size and won't recover as it has expanded.

Went to Tampoi last Thursday to help a friend set up a low light planted tank. Experience a bit of a culture shock as the live stock being sold are those that you might not want to get. There's about four lfs there as my friend drove me around and their live stocks, be it marine or freshwater are pathetic. There's not much choice to choose from. But for marine, there's a lot of dead coral that I see in the display tank. Believe it or not, in 1 of the lfs I went to, they are selling baby monkey. I was a bit off mood because of that.

When you made arrangement to collect from him, did he gave you his address? Maybe can go to his house to ask him to pay the $25.

Aquaplane . This occur when the tyre somehow floats above water. It can occur when a vehicle is driving fast enough during wet weather as the road could not divert the water. No matter how much you believe in your tyre, if you're driving fast in the rain, this will occur. That's why it is recommended that you drive slowly during rainy days. Even when driving fast and you jam the brake, it doesn't mean the car will stop moving. Instead that tyre will continue to be floating above that water until the momentum of the car is slow enough that the weight of the car is pressing down on the four tyres until the tyres actually touches the road surface. The height of the water is just a few mm only but because it is spread evenly, your tyres just aquaplane above this few mm of water. You may not feel it when driving in a straight road but when that road turns into a curve and you turn your steering wheel, your car might still be heading straight. The momentum of the car is making it to go straight a the tyres is aquaplaning. So Drive Slowly In Wet Weather!

Yah. Losing an entire family overnight due to a smartbomb dropped wrongly. There are pictures in the internet showing children bodies burnt to a crisp when these so called smart bomb paid a visit. Those pictures are never shown in the media. Why? But when a citizen of the 'invading' country life is being taken, we all condemmed it. Who is to blame in the 1st place? Who is going to be responsible for the innocent life lost? Certainly not the leader of that nation. The p.o.w torture is another episode. There are more that is happening that we did not see. Seeing that short movie has changed me. There are more question that needed to be answered like how did a US civillian get into Iraq during a war and why? Was he really a civillian? Why did the authorities let him off in that country when others have been brought back to their country of origin? I thought that detained US citizen are shipped back to their homeland but why was he released into Iraq? How good were his reason that the authorities let him off? I sympathise with the family because their son has been made a pawn. His last moment alive was used as a tool by the perpertrator, his own government and the media. AT is right, it could happen next month. Just my opinion too.

Some rogue US soldiers in Iraq are too much
BFG replied to Achilles Tang's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Of course, I did not label all of them as bad, just those that committed the crime. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Saw a docu from BBC showing a military jeep or hummer shooting at a car which was occupied with a family. The car was travelling just behind that military vehicle with some traffic behind them. Someone said something and they open fire on the car. I think they were children in that car too as the reporter said a whole family had perished inside. BBC has some eye opener docu late at night. You need to search the internet for some pics or footage of what really happen in Iraq. What the media shows us is not what fully happened, just a part of it only. -
Some rogue US soldiers in Iraq are too much
BFG replied to Achilles Tang's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I think the soldiers are not rogue, just that they are overwhelmed by the 'power' they have over unarmed p.o.w. Just take a look back in history. Vietnam, Somalia and now Iraq. Dunno why but somehow they looked down on their opponent thinking with the superior firepower they have, they would control any battlefield they enter. I think they believe they have the right to do anything they want to do there. -
check out nbr 96.

Yah man especially if got a pretty gal using it, all the fish and livestock will be stuck at the tank glass ogling at her. BUT later grandma use the toilet later say " Ah Boy ah, how come your tank got only rocks ah? Where your fish go?" Even the anemone shrink itself! The fish use their fins to cover their eyes and hide behind live rocks. Clams all close them shells and the sea cucumber vomits. There goes the tank! Sorry but I blame Fireclown for putting ideas in my head!

Young Nicholas Loh from TCHS. The level of expertise are just guideline for reefer to follow. But since you are new to this hobby, how come you dispute the accuracy? Er, can you tell me how you came about finding the level of expertise wrong? Also, I know that a compo and posting is different. But why would an A1 English student use such 'mixed' English. This forum is known worldwide so other reefer from other countries might find your reply a bit 'weird'. Why not apply what you have learnt in school here too!

My SPS tank as of 6 April 04
BFG replied to Achilles Tang's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Wah Boss, like this, you could do a documentary for all the inhabitant of that tank of yours. No need to dive in the sea and get wet! Very, very nice. Maybe CNA wants to do a segment on marine just like they did on freshwater a few months ago. More pics please! -
where would the skimmer ideally be placed? Before the refugium? Also if there is dsb, the skimmer should be placed before it too? Sorry Blue heaven for hijacking your thread. Trying to learn more. Newbie Alert!

hmm, since you know that some fish need moderate care and some need expert care, why do you bought them? You are just a beginner. You should start with fishes that are more hardy and can tolerate some discomfort. Start with 1 or 2 and stop at 4. It seems that you could surf the internet to find info but you want to use only part of the knowledge. Where is the reasoning in that? Yes, if you have the money, you can buy any fish that you want but the trick in this hobby is to prolong their life under YOUR care. Life is very, very precious, no matter it's a fish or you. You are a 14 year old kid who has the luxury that can afford this hobby. Take it slowly and learn along the way. There are a lot of reefer here that can dispense advise freely to you without charging anything in return. Their only hope of giving you advise is that whatever live stock you are keeping or intending to keep will have a long life in your tank. Nobody here wanted to see dead fishes in their tank. So listen to them. This forum is for people like you to learn as much in order to maintain your own tank. It can be very exciting seeing other members posting their beautiful tank with many live stock. But you got to be very realistic. Yours is only a 2.5ft tank. Don't try to compete with the other reefer here because what they have and what you have is very different. Also try to be courteous when replying. You mention somewhere that you are very good in English but your reply looks like you come from an Ah Beng taught school. Use whatever you have learn in school and apply it here. No need to use complicated words.

wat about parking? as it is, our carpark would not accomodate this long van. while turning might hit other vehicle in the carpark. don't even think can pass the multi-level carpark too.

Hey DeepBlue, why not print your joke on a piece of A4 paper and paste it beside the honey section in the supermarket. Add a small camera and capture those people faces that is reading your poster.
-
Oh, no wonder there are people who are allergic to honey!

There's a technique they used in WW2. The pilot will climb to a height and drop the bomb. As they drop the bomb, the pilot will also dive the plane to get as much speed as possible. They dive away from the bomb drop area. That would placed them a few km in a few second. They would also feel the shockwave but they would be in a safe distance already. Seen the documentary on the 2 a-bomb drop.
