The idea of using DI water for top up is to firstly avoid introducing PO4 & other undesirable compounds into the tank. (Most people implement this using a DI filter hooked up from their tap water.)
Whereas for Chaeto, its purpose is mainly to absorb nitrates left over from fish poos & food. So these 2 perform different roles.
BTW, a handful of chaeto typically would not be sufficient to handle the PO4 if you top up directly from tap water.
Tian is using the larger model. Below is the link to OR's Australian site. It assigns different names over there.
Your link shows the OTP1000(actually model of its pump) which is the "Module400", rated for 400L.
Tian's is the BH2000 which is the "Module600", rated for 600L.
The thing with these OR HO skimmer design is that there's no overflow connection at the skimmer cup, so that one has to be quite religious about cleaning the cup on a regular basis. (One more thing you can't leave alone if you're going on a long trip.)
For those who're interested, below is a link to BH2000 review that showed up on my Google search.

I think it's managerial mentality. They don't like to see employee that's too relax. They probably worry the next guy will start bringing his bird cage to work, then dogs, cats, guinea pigs, chameleons,....etc.
I've realized that it's quite important to keep out office tank a little discrete. Not everyone views our little hobbies positively in a working environment. Once in a blue moon, we received email to tidy up our desks cause top management may be visiting our office. I heard of how the top mgmt nicely commented on one of our colleague's tank. A few days later, immediate boss advised colleague to have the tank decomission. So I ask, "What's going on here?!!"
On subsequent such visits, I always turn off my tank lights. Best cover the whole thing with newspaper.
With your tank size, I think you should not restrict your Eheim 1264 return. As for noise, have you replace the PVC piping with flexible hose? Maybe add an additional piece of foam under the pump while you're at it.
With regards to wave maker, I notice in your pics that you position it at the back wall facing right. You can actually position it either on the left or right wall to maximize the full length of your tank. Height placement depends on the type of corals you keep, & also to avoid sand storm. The way your corals react to changes in flow gives you clue on whether you're doing the right thing.
Bubbles in fresh water setup is mainly to circulate tank water, although some may find it aesthetically pleasing. However, it is too weak for marine setup. Instead, a much stronger return pump plus wave maker(s) are typically used. Total water volume circulates at approx. 10x per hour.
