Gradually increase salinity via your WC routine. You should be using DI/RO or distilled water + salt.

I have a black Oyama under my BB tank. However, the black is not so obvious due to reflection from the glass. My previous BB tank sat directly on white Styrofoam & I noticed brighter light reflection onto underside of LR. May not be very comfortable if you have fishes that prefer dimmer lighting.

If the inlet is near the base of the Samla box, do you think that would encourage the chaeto to tumble?

Just a thought: Most neighborhood lighting shop sells florescent lighting reflectors. You can get one for your ATS PL lights to make it more efficient & to reduce algae build-up in rest of your sump area.
