  3. I use an ikea spotlight fitting with 3 x Powerpac LED spotlights. Chaeto have been growing fine. BTW, I saw the Powerpac LED bulb on sale at Homefix store couple of days ago.
  4. A sump would improve your chance of success greatly.
  5. Back flow into sump typically stops when water level reaches outlet nozzle in the DT. Only a small amount in the overflow compartment will leak into sump if your durso pipe is not water tight, but that should not contribute to much water volume. The main water volume should still stay in the DT.
  6. You need a proper sump. You current one may flood your room during power outage.
  7. Go for 7 inch filter sock if space allows. It'll not overflow as fast as the 4 inch ones.
  8. Chaeto taken. Thanks to those who PM me. Will post when it's time to harvest again. Wishing all a merry Christmas & happy New Year.
  9. Item sole. Thread closed. Thanks for viewing, and wishing all a merry Christmas & happy New Year.

  11. 2kg of red & white mix $30 Collection is possible after evening on weekdays. Separate arrangement on weekends. Location in the East Pls. PM me if interested.
  12. 1st compartment may have bubbles. They will overflow into 3rd and your return pump may send the bubbles back into your DT. Same problem when the bubbles overflows into 2nd, then into 3rd. To counter this, you can place baffles in 1st compartment to force water to go under before reaching 2nd & 3rd compartment.
  13. Here's an article about it. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-05/rs/index.php
  14. Below is a link for volume calculator http://www.hamzasreef.com/Contents/Calculators/TankVolume.php 3 inches should give you about 15.5 L of volume. Back flow from display tank typically stops at level of return outlet pipe. If your outlet pipe is, say 2 inches below current water level, then 36x18x2 = 14.6 L of back flow volume Then, you should be ok.
  15. You'll also need to calculate if existing sump can accommodate back flow water volume from both display tanks during power outages.
  16. 4. what:Tross Ceiling Light where: Ikea How it's used: Suspend over sump with 3 x PowerPac LED spotlight for Chaeto Price: $19.90(fixture) + 3x$27(LED spotlight) Pic: Reference: http://www.ikea.com/sg/en/catalog/products/20230670/
  17. I've the same problem. They either get caught on the LR, or the wavemaker, or end up in my filter sock.
  18. Could your power have tripped during the night, then recovered(or someone in your household turn it back on) without you knowing? During power trip, water level in sump could have exceeded skimmer limit, resulting in what you see in the morning.
  19. Filter sock need to hang straight. Otherwise, it'll overflow quickly.
  20. If you plan to move, then I suggest nano setup. Less headache when you relocate. On the other hand, some folks don't see their tank as 'permanent', and are ready to sell off at a discounted price when the situation arises.
  21. These are the steps: (1) Remove rocks & rinse off the die-offs. (2) Pour away the 'fresh water' from tank. (3) Prepare salt water in a separate container, or get direct from LFS. (4) Check water parameters before adding into tank. (5) Put in rock. (6) Start you cycle.
  22. I suggest 3 compartments. It gives you more flexibility if you make changes to your sump equipment down the road. Note: - Place you skimmer in a compartment with constant water level. - DSB will accumulate toxin if you don't maintain it. - If you keep Macroalgae, filter the water overflowing into the return pump compartment. Break off pieces of Macroalgae will jam your pump impeller over time.
  23. I replaced my pump's outlet Eheim hose size from 19/27mm to 25/34mm. It made a huge difference. It's like twice the flow I'm getting now.
