  1. Thanks FuEl. much appreciated.
  2. Thanks FuEl. This is something new to me. Is there any web site where I can read up more on this 'filter socks'?
  3. No worries here, no fishes dying lately. Oh? I always had the impression that bacteria dosing is only for initial tank start-up, rather than normal maintenance regime.
  4. Thanks for the advice. Denitrator & DSB is not an option for my setup right now due to space constrain. I've also read somewhere that larger pieces of LR do have potential for cultivating anaerobic bacteria. If that is true, my current stock of LRs may be less tan optimal in size. I've also been keeping tab of the bioload in the tank. Thanks again.
  5. Hi Comycus, Thanks for replying. I find it difficult to lower NO3 level in spite of the water changes. I have been hoping to cultivate enough anaerobic bacteria in the Biohome & LR to take care of NO3 but without much success. Do you think cycling the skimmer outlet back to the 1st compartment inhibits anaerobic bacteria growth?
  6. Hi All, I've been running my home FOWLR tank for 3 years, but it occurred to me last night that there might be room for improvement for the sump setup. That's why I'm writing this to seek your expertise. Below is a simple description of my sump compartments: 1st compartment Overflow to filter wool with LR below. 2nd compartment biohome, charcoal filter, PhosGuard & skimmer 3rd compartment Some more LR & return pump The size of my sump is restricted such that the skimmer can only be positioned in the 2nd compartment. Skimmer return is currently piped back to the 1st compartment to eliminate micro bubbles in the main tank. It occurred to me that the skimmer return may contain a relatively high level of oxygenated water. (1) Would it diminish the effectiveness of the bacterias residing in the Biohome & LR? (2) Should I re-route the skimmer return back to 2nd or 3rd compartment instead? (3) Or should perform (2), plus moving the Biohome into 1st comparrtment? Thanks in advance.
  7. Does anyone know where I can buy some of the above CaCl2? Much appreciated
  8. Hi sanju1998, For your current setup, I would say the most straight forward option is Red Sea Prizm. It's not the best skimmer around the block, but then, your tank is neither too big nor too heavily stocked.
  9. Shortening the durso pipe may end up with waterfall sound. I think that's why most wet/dry scrubbers are located above the sump, or in a separate container. But I think bro johntanjm's use of cloth as a media for algae to grow on is a stroke of genius - cheap, easy to shape, easily replaceable.

  11. You're a retired old man, and intends to setup a 3' x 2' x 2' tank in your office? hmmmm. . . . Care to enlighten us on that?
  12. Not what had in mind. Anyway, best wishes to your WTG posting.
  13. Interested. Can indicate IOS dimension, & if there are holes drilled for piping to sump tank?
  14. Hi bro peacemaker, I feel that there's a higher chance of flooding for tank+sump design when something goes wrong. Unlike an IOS tank, all the water are contained within. (Off course unless the tank cracks!! touch wood.) There're a lot more complexity in design when you try to counter the risk of say. . . . office power outage (cleaning auntie may unknowingly plug in a faulty vacuum cleaner causing a power trip at 7am! ) , or something in your tank detached itself & start to choke your overflow pipe. Worst case scenario, you need to assess the worst possible damage to your office & figure out the estimated cost. What would your boss say? (Unless you're the boss ) If the company have plans to cut head count cost in the coming year, you don't want to give your boss a reason to nominate you. I've a small tank in the office too, & I've decided to play it simple with a HOB filter ###### skimmer. That way, I sleep better at night. Wishing U a happy new year
  15. For those with small tanks like Bro's, I've got something that might fit. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...rt=#entry762406 Wishing all a Merry Christmas
  16. Hi curahee, You'd want to have some kind of mechanical filtration to remove larger size detritus. For your size tank, maybe u can consider a HOB filter.
  17. Thanks for the compliment Wishing u all the best in this new tank of yours.
  18. Hi Firestarter, I'm also running an internal IOS 2 footer tank & I feel that the size is too restrictive for types of LS one can keep & equipment the IOS can accommodate. Will definitely want to upgrade to a bigger tank when there's a chance. U'd probably want to think thru if the effort & $ against how long U intend this setup to last. Below is my humble 2 footer. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...8868&st=100 Cheers
  19. No lah, I'm quite sure they won't go blind. Maybe just disorientated for the moment.
  20. Hi Dratino, Have U tried scooping out the fishes with a net after they have gone to sleep? At about 6am in the morning when your fishes are still sleeping, prepare a temporary container with water. Turn on your tank lighting full blast. Just try to reach in & scoop them out.
  21. My little maroon clown seems to hosts on a couple of hairy mushies. Sometimes likes to rubs so hard until mushies become less hairy. Just hope my mushies can take the abuse.
