  1. There's also something called the HOB refugium(see link below). It may work if the dimension suits your skimmer. Not sure if Petmart sells it. http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/products/eco-marine/eco-filters/deluxe-hob-system.html
  2. As per bro Peacemaker has suggested, below link is my office hang-on filter where I DIY a skimmer into it. You'd just need to find a larger hang-on filter to accommodate your Tunze9002.
  3. There's limited LR scaping you can do on a 1ft width tank. I'd say reuse your 1ft cube & convert it into a sump. Then get...maybe a 1.5ft cube with built-in overflow to the sump. Hide all the equipment plus the noise they generate in the sump cabinet. It's a much neater setup in the long run.
  4. If the transparent piece with teeth is designed to float by trapping air, then it may not be so reliable for aquarium with vigorous water surface movement(caused by wave maker?). The bubbles may eventually be pushed out under the transparent piece causing it to sink. Instead, it should be of some 'floatable' material for better reliability. I have a SUN HOB filter which comes with surface skimmer is designed this way.
  5. I'm assuming that your tank's water level fluctuates between evaporation & water top-ups. So the top part of the skimmer with teeth needs to be floating to accommodate this changes in water level. By fixing it in place with a Styrofoam, you will not get any skimming done when water level falls below the teeth. That defeats the whole purpose of this device. Below is a link on surface skimmer. http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-185157.html
  6. Yes, I've had the same problem with Banggai, but my current Spotted Cardinals are not choosy with pellets.
  7. Item found. Thread closed. Thanks for viewing.
  8. Ha ha...ok I'm not a zen practitioner nor am I good at explaining. So this is the next best thing I can do to answer your question. Below is the Wiki link on "Zen". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zen As I've said earlier, in this instance, I'm telling myself to let go. Let nature takes its course. When the sump is ready, it'll be ready for collection. Better to have a properly made sump tank than have a leaky one yah?
  9. Still looking for the locking socket. Anyone have a spare piece to sell me?
  10. LOL...you very funny bro. You said "ic" before asking "wat's zen?" zen is In this instance, I'll telling myself to let go. Let nature takes its course. When the sump is ready, it'll be ready for collection. Better to have a properly made sump tank than have a leaky one yah?
  11. Boss said not ready yet. Delayed till Tuesday. I'm telling myself "...Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....Go zen. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...."
  12. Too bad not able to meet up last week. How's your car?
  13. Welcome. I think your 1st tank can probably be categorized under pico size. So go browse under "Nano Reefs or Pico Reef ?" forum for ideas. For your bigger tank, pls. compare with glass thickness chart in below link. http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/planasystem/ig/Guide-Charts--Tables--Diagrams/Glass-Thickness-Calculator.htm My cousin used his fresh water tank for marine & got his living room flooded a few days later. It's front glass gave way right in the middle. As expected, no one in the household slept that night.
  14. I plan to feed the refugium from my skimmer return. Some minor changes to plan E after receiving some advises from seniors: (1) Baffles from skimmer compartment go under-over-under to reach return compartment. (2) Baffles from refugium compartment go over-under to reach return compartment. Below is a simple model I made to help myself visualise as well as help to show the tank maker what I wanted. Pic 1 : sump tank plan E modified Pic 2 : Baffles (Top right is fuge. Bottom right is skimmer. Left is return) Pic 3: Skimmer section showing 1st baffle with 1" gap below. Thanks all.
  15. Thanks bro. I was really at a lost & didn't know which way to go.
  16. I'm hoping to setup a bubble trap in the sump between skimmer & return compartment. Questions: (1)Which way should it be? over-under-over or under-over-under to minimise micro bubbles? (2)If my overflow rate is 1800l/h, what should be my baffle length & width to accommodate the flow?
  17. Hi Clee, Two qustions: (1) 7500L/H is return pump specs or actual actual flow rate exiting into display tank? (2) I see that you have a baffle from refugium/frag directing water downwards into the return chamber. How wide apart are the baffles? I need to figure out if my baffles are correctly sized.
  18. Below is a revised plan without pre-filter compartment(i.e. combining filter sock into skimmer compartment). baffles are added to eliminate bubbles from return chamber. Skimmer baffle (orange colour) maintain compartment water depth at 10". Refugium baffle (blue colour) maintain compartment water depth at 14". The design looks simpler compared to previous ones.
  19. Thanks Clee for the 3 points, especially point (1). I guess it's also for filter sock to be clogged & overflow too. So I'd be sure to position the sock below the brim.
  20. One question just popped into my mind. The 1st sump compartment after main tank's overflow is typically a pre-filter box containing filter wool & tray. So why do I need a pre-filter compartment if I intend to use filter sock? Can't I just hang the filter sock in the skimmer compartment?
  21. Thanks for sharing Clee. Is the water flow rate in your frag & refugium ok? Not too fast? I'm asking cause some folks advocate a more controlled slower water flow in these sections.
  22. Hi, I need to find a replacement for below part for my AquaBee 2000i. (Actually the part is the same for model 2000, 2000i & 3000) Would be great if anyone has a spoiled 2000i or 3000 pump but still retains this serviceable part, is is willing to sell it to me. Thanks in advance
