  3. Hey bro, Sounds like you've pretty much set your mind on how you'd like to hook up your chiller. Just go ahead without making your piping connection permanent yet. Make adjustment as you go along to get the optimum setting you want. Take you time.
  4. My tomini's poo poo is always white tablet shape, dispersing into white power under strong current. Flame hawk's is also white, but in a strand. I guess you'd just have to monitor further with different types of feed.
  5. Hi Sherman, With the exhaust fan pulling out warm air from the LED assembly, it seems that moist air under the hood tends to be sucked into the LED assembly. Would it be better to drill a few small holes on the plastic hood to allow dryer air to enter into the assembly? Any update pics of your Cube 7 with corals?
  6. The longer the hose, the better the cushion from vibration.
  7. I do WC after every hair cut. BTW, the 2 activities are not related.
  8. BTW, it should be "humming", not "humping".
  9. Are you running your pump in-sump, or out-sump?
  10. Filter sock should be placed at the overflow into your sump. Since you have an IOS, I can see that it'll be difficult to fit a round sock into a square hole. But still possible if you can manage to re-stitch the sock material onto a square or rectangular frame. Having unfiltered water going thru' chiller will probably lead to its lost of cooling efficiency later.
  11. I suggest you take a look at below posting regarding leather:
  12. Yes, that's what I meant, although it's an unconventional easy way out to achieve the look you want. Hey, but I can see advantages to that: (1) You don't need to sacrifice a reduction of water volume. (2) Like what bro BFG said "Confirm too strong. You need to hang it higher." Now you don't have to. However, I guess these may not be important considerations. Just go ahead & do what you want.
  13. Just extend your existing hood downwards by 6" & it becomes a 3 x 2 x 1.5.

  15. I've seen Aquamarin carry the tubing. Call & ask.
  16. After lugging boxes of distilled water from NTUC for a few times, I gave up & bought a 2nd hand Crystal pro. No regrets. I guess I wouldn't have been keeping this hobby if not for Crystal pro.
  17. Hey bro, First of all, don't add salt to your top-up water. Salt don't get evaporated from your aquarium, just H2O. If you start topping up with salt water, your tank salinity will start to rise. Secondly, the NH3 rise may be due to micro-organism die offs in your aged water, or may even come from your dechlorinator. I suggest you start a fresh pail of aged water without adding dechlorinator nor salt. Then test it to compare results.
  18. I think it is more important to have good O2 exchange on your water surface than to restrict evaporation. Insufficient O2 in your water will definitely be detrimental to your LS.
  19. BTW, nobody says you cannot lay sand over crushed corals. If your current crushed corals contains beneficial bacteria, they'll eventually propagate into the sand too.
  20. Under gravel filter is not common in marine tanks. I don't think it's efficient enough to handle bio load of marine LS.
  21. Your tank has not complete cycling yet. Give a few more weeks. Patience is the key here.
  22. I suggest you test your water 1st. Maybe the answer is with the test results.
  23. Hi bro, Firstly, I like to say that filter sock will not become a nitrate factory if it is regularly cleaned. Secondly, a 100 or 200 micron sock would probably have taken care of your "brown powdery tingy" in the first place. For your current situation, it is best to perform below steps during your regular water change. (1)If your sump dosen't overflow when main return pump is turned off, turn it off for the time being. (2)Get an empty pail or tub & place next to your sump. (3)You should be able to siphon water from sump to pail since water level in sump is higher than in pail. (4)Extract as much of the "brown powdery tingy" as possible into pail. (The siphon action will stop once water level on both sides balance out.) Note: You may want to temporarily remove LR & other stuff from sump for better access during step (4).
  24. Those better designed mechanical filtration have a glass box to enclose the piping outlet & the filter wool. This contain the water splashes & moisture in the sump compartment. It is with this aim that I came upon this simple contraption for my 4 inch filter sock. The pics are quite self explanatory. I no longer need to wipe water droplets off my sump cabinet.
