  1. If you can shut off your pipe valves(meaning you do not need to drain your main tank)while sump is swapped out, impact to your LS should be minimal. Things to do: (1) Get a measurement inside your sump cabinet. This will give an idea of max sump size you can install. Note1: Size if cabinet opening will also influence max sump size.(Get a measurement of that too) Note2: a Pic of your sump showing existing piping position would help. (2) A list of sump equipment(with individual dimension) Lastly, if you've been wanting to change, upgrade or add certain sump equipment, this is a good time to include into item(2). Happy planning
  2. Try raising the skimmer by letting it sit on a stand.
  3. marine one comes with overflow & sump tank, fresh one doesn't.
  4. Let you eyes decide for you. Go visit LFS, reefers' tanks, Aquarama (alamak! just ended). Look for those with LS you're planning to keep. Are they too blue for your liking? or too white? Let you eyes decide.
  5. My kitchen fridge also does that: kicking in & out all day long. But it has been running for eons. lol I wouldn't worry about the chiller. If it's design to chill an aquarium, we should expect it to work without much fuss. I'm more concern with the pump you need in your 1 footer to supply water to the chiller & back. It'll stand out like a giant in your relatively small tank. Do you really want that?
  6. Bro, one is about twice the price of the other. Specs shows 40W difference in power consumption. That should be about $7 extra on your electrical bill. So if you go for 5m3, you'll pull even after continuous 58 months of usage.
  7. Hi, You did not mentioned chiller, so I guessed you're not planning for one at the moment. In this hot weather, a clip on fan would help bring down your water temp to more bearable level. Talking about heat, a canister filter like the eheim 2213 you mentioned typically has a submerged pump as compared to a HOB filter where the pump is external. Water gets heated up more with a submerged pump. BTW, you do not need to restrict yourself with just one HOB filter. You can have one for mechanical filtration, & a 2nd one for cultivation chaeto for nutrient export. Plus you now get twice the circulation. My 2 cents.
  8. Probably due to insufficient flow, & chaeto not tumbling. But as long as it's controlling your NO3 level, you've meet your objective.
  9. You can always try chaeto.
  10. There are other factors contributing to rate of evaporation. (1) Higher water circulation causes higher evaporation.(Adding wavemakers & changing to a more powerful return pump) (2) An overflow system encourage water movement on the tank surface, also adds to evaporation.
  11. Below is one of the best posting on this topic. I modded my crystalpro last stage using ideas from here.
  12. Thanks for the info. Will be looking out for our SRC tank when I visit.
  13. There will be substantial evaporation unless your environment is very cold & damp. Otherwise, you're probably adding in more water than you take out during WC to compensate for the amount evaporated.
  14. SUN HEE HARDWARE Blk 354 Clementi Avenue 2 #01-239 S'pore 120354 Tel: 67771788 http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_3448/travel_site_7758/ I got all my pipe fittings there.
  15. I don't think your protein skimming will be consistent with such fluctuation. The water level where the skimmer sits in needs to be stable.
  16. I wonder if all the competition tank use the same water source. Maybe NSW from a LFS sponsor, or do each mix their own salt water?
  17. I don't see an ATO in your sump pic so I'll ask you this: Do you notice your sump water level fluctuation up & down due to evaporation & water top ups?
  18. Ooi, don't say "approval" lah. Make me paiseh only. Every setup is unique. I also learn new stuff as I read your posting. We learn together.
  19. You can try out DSB without a permanent setup. Find a plastic tub of suitable depth & size as your DSB refugium. Cut 2 holes for balkhead fittings on 1 side of the tub. 1 for inlet from a pump in your sump, the other for overflow back into sump. Hence, you need to sit the tub higher than the sump for the overflow to work. This modular refugium can easily be dismantled without impact to the rest of your tank.
  20. Hi bro, Below is the info when I inquire about DSB. Hope it contributes to your planning.
  21. According to Kuay5, the new pump could not fit into his skimmer body. I thought the difference between old & new aquabee is just the impellor & its shaft support. (below is a link on this query.) http://www.theaquariumsolution.com/non-turbo-or-turbo-mce600-identification http://www.theaquariumsolution.com/old-or-new-style-pumps-%E2%80%93-which-one-have-you-got I wonder if Deltec modified the pump chamber to accommodate the newer Aquabee.
  22. Sorry about the confusion. Should have been: "...will help fine tune your return drain flow...."
