  1. It would be good if future LED fixtures allow customers to pick & choose the kind of colour they want, like on a multi-tube T5 fixture. Then customers can buy & install LED bulbs like "Aquablue Special", "Blue Plus", "Actinic", or "Purple Plus" into their LED fixture like in a T5. Give us the FREEDOM to mix & match to find one's favourite combination. If we're able to achieve the coloration this provides, then will LED have a chance to retire T5 in this reefing industry.
  2. The thing is, I don't see how one would suddenly revert to using NSW after investing in DI/RO filter & salt. I've no problem with salt mix after doing the same for 4 yrs. BTW, did your friend compare water parameter between his tank & the NSW before using it for WC? There should not be drastic change after WC. And I hope he/she did not change more than 50% tank volume at a time. Otherwise LS would be stressed.
  3. Sheng Song now selling cheap cheap! Can stir-fry, steam, BBQ, or even keep as pet!
  4. Hi Oprime, Welcome to our reefing community. Marine tank generally requires 10-20X turn over rate. Your tank volume is about 80L. That should translate to 800L/hr-1600L/hr. Just relying on your canister's 400L/hr is not going to make it unless you add wavemaker to boost up circulation. Happy reefing
  5. Just 1 question: How will you stop the pump when there is sufficient water in the sump?
  6. Fan is more effective if you do not use enclosed hood over your tank.
  7. Talk to your CO. You may be able to convince him to setup one in the camp....(maybe in the officers mess?) Entice CO to budget for tank, equipment, LS. Anything you recommend. Better to let garment than your dad pay for electrical bill right? Then you get special tank maintenance duties in camp. What better way to spend time in camp doing something you love. Anyway, get thru' BMT first. All the best
  8. Well, nobody say you cannot have a 4ft tank with 1 to 1.5ft partition off as IOS sump. Then you'll have decent room to perform regular maintenance. You'll have to be a little creative with regards to hiding this section of the tank though. All in all, I'd have to agree that this kind of design is more suitable for FOWLR setup as you only need filtr wool/sock, protein skimmer, a couple of bags of carbon & Phosguard between baffles, & a return pump.(Can also add a small compartment to culture chaeto if you want.) But total power comsumption can be limited to only 2 pumps + lighting on a timer switch. Relatively green & don't have to worry about flooding during power outage.
  9. For tanks like these, I choose ADA....tap water only for that zen like look. ke ke....but still have to do WC lest mosquito breeds. Haiz

  11. Before buying equipment for your tank, you can check below to calculate how much you'll be adding to your dad's monthly electical bill. Always seek approval before purchase to avoid giving him heart attack. P.S. An IOS tank will typically consume less power than a sump tank system since it requires a less powerful return pump. And generally, a FOWLR consumes less than a LPS, which in turn consumes less than an SPS tank due to the equipment they need. Some ideas in case you need to work out a compromise with your dad.
  12. Below is a youtube link showing a Cycling Time Lapse. The brown diatoms should clear out after the cycle period as shown.
  13. How come this cleaner shrimp dosen't seem interested? Mine would immediatly snatch food from my hairy mushies.
  14. Don't worry about the purple coraline, it'll grow back after your tank matures with proper water condition. If you're able to brush off the red ones with a soft brush, it's red slime. You can leave your lights off to discourage its growth. Siphon it out during your WC.
  15. Your tank looks over crowded. Fishes are probably fighting for territory. I suggest you move the yellow tail into seperate tank to recover from injuries. Meanwhile, find a bigger tank if you want to keep these fishes. P.S. Air stone & pump is not for marine tank. Replace it with a hang-on-back filter.
  16. There's no need to fix the hydrometer pamanently in the tank. Will be difficult to clean glass.
  17. I suggest you turn on your equipment one at a time. (i.e. 1st equipment, test pen, 2nd equipment, test pen,... until you find the culprit.)
  18. It could even be a hitch hiker in your LR which you've yet to notice. The cleaner shrimp might have been hanging around near to where it's hiding. Unless you don't feed the fish, I don't think the clown is responsible for your lost.
