  1. I agree with bro Comy about doing away with canister filter. The 2 areas where mechanical filtration may likely fail you is when: (1) A large piece of coral or anemone gets dislodged & blocks your overflow comb. (2) Filter sock gets clogged up & overflows. A canister filter is unlikely to help much in the above 2 scenarios. Found a 6 footer rimless that's close to the dimension you're aiming for. Size is 72"x36"x22". Below is the article from boss & its video link in Youtube. Useful as a reference for your planning. BTW, I notice rimless setups typically have no hoods. Probably to better display their "rimlessness".
  2. It may look weird with water partially filled. If it's not a tank with sump system, I suggest you sell it off at a fresh water aquarium forum. Then get a proper tank for marine use. This might save you headaches down the road.
  3. A 6 feet rimless would likely need to be long, short, & narrow. Below is any example. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1893104
  4. Yes, chiller pump will contribute heat. So it's best to choose pump that release minimal heat while providing optimal flow from chiller to maximize cooling. The built-in pump for canister filter is not designed to hook up additional equipment like a chiller. Doing so would reduce flow to the point that neither the cooling nor filtration can be effective.
  5. I'm afraid you'll have to start from scratch. Also, your glass is not thick enough unless tank's height is 18" or less. Salt water is denser & exerts a greater pressure.
  6. As your tank go thru' cycling, your ammonia & nitrite level will spike. I'm actually more concern about whether the snails can take these spikes rather than the lights. I hope they make it.

    BioPellets

Biopellets need to "tumble" to work. I don't think they can do so in a filter bag. Putting them in a betta box might work if there is sufficient flow thru' it.
  8. Any concern with algae growth with tank near to outdoor?
  9. It's ok to cycle without lights, but you still need to provide good ventilation for O2 exchange.
  10. Interesting. Any pics to share?
  11. I remember reading that outlet from Biopellet-Reactor should go into protein skimmer as much as possible.
  12. 4 feet tank on 6 feet cabinet?
  13. You can also diy your own partition using egg crate.
  14. Over time, it'll spread all over your tank & sting your corals. Big ones may even be a threat to small fish.
  15. Looks like aptasia. Quick, get rid of it.
  16. Thanks. Looks like I still have to rely on my clump of chaeto.
  17. Hi bro Gouldian, How large is the rock to be considered to have anaerobic areas? Fist size? head size? My existing LR may ultimately not yield any anaerobic areas.
  18. No problem. Glad I was able to help.
  19. Some info I found on the web: http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-your-fish-tanks/ecopico-saltwater-build-108540-7.html http://blog.marinedepot.com/2011/04/ecoxotic-ecopico-unboxing-led-upgrade.html http://www.marinedepot.com/Ecoxotic_4_Way_Splitter_w_Switches_Lighting_Accessories_for_Saltwater_Reef_Aquariums-Ecoxotic-XX05022-FILTAC-vi.html
  20. OVERCROWDED 1 inch per 4 gal.
  21. Some info on Mazarra: http://reefbuilders.com/2011/05/27/maxspect-mazarra-led/
  22. (1) Problem with airlift skimmer is that the salderwood gets clogged up over time, reducing your skimming efficiency. A HOB protein skimmer(e.g. Reef Octopus OTP 1000) should get you better result. Below is a related link. Other HOB models on the market are: - Deltec MCE600 - AquaC Remora - RedSea Prizm (2) Fish Only With Live Rocks (3) It's better to get 1 or 2 big piece than many small pieces. (4) S'pore LFS
