  1. Firstly, the flow rate down the degassing plate may not be sufficient. Secondly, you'll be shining light into your tank also. It's going to affect your photo period.
  2. Ya...and maybe another pump for skimmer? Because of such restrictions, IOS tanks are usually more suited for FOWLR where equipment & pumps are minimal. If you want to keep corals, better go for a sump system.
  3. Why is black so popular? You guys don't feel warm wearing it in this tropical climate meh?
  4. Don't waste your money on a Weipro. Reef Octopus BH 1000 is a much better choice.
  5. ok as long as the equipment you're planning to get can fit into those compartments. P.S. Remember to check for scratches on the glass.
  6. How big is your tank? Maybe can consider a HOB skimmer.
  7. I understand that it uses the same principle as the IceProbe to cool water.
  8. I'm using exactly that on my nano except for different purpose. Great recycling idea
  9. I had the same problem previously. I rescued it with stronger water flow. The surviving baby fist size has since grown back to about 10x its original. BTW, I'm using a fan in place of a chiller, & temp is kept between 27.8 - 28.5.
  10. Your tank has improved Mal. BTW, I noticed you've also replaced your LED?
  11. Looks a little overcrowded. Try to reduce your fish count.
  12. Hi bro MbmC, I saw SantaMonica's scrubber & actually asked him about his design of having 2 outlets(1 positioned lower, & the 2nd one higher on the enclosure). Seems like the thick algae growth would easily block the lower outlet. As the water level rise in the scrubber chamber, the higher outlet comes into play to provide the additional drainage to avoid an overflow. If a bigger outlet is not possible for your design, you can consider having a 2nd outlet. It's an insurance against lighting short circuit.
  13. Below is the online calculator I've been using. My 2' cube FOWLR tank comes up to S$11.61 per month with the new tariff. http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/tank_elec_calc.php
  14. I use a cheap clothes scrub brush on the inner surface. After which, leave in chlorine solution overnight. Rinse & hang out to dry.
  15. I suspect that subconsciously, I get the satisfaction seeing & smelling the dirty skimate being extracted from my tank water when I wash the skimmer collection cup. WC doesn't do that for me except back ache.

    Plumbing

Hey Vinc, Is that the one called "Aqua Star Trading"?
  17. Yeah, one can opt to do more frequent WC in place of a skimmer. It's the effort & $$ consideration. Most human(including me) are lazy & let machine do the work as much as possible.
  18. LOL, no problem bro if you don't mind travelling all the way to the east to collect just a few bugs.
  19. Neither calcium reactor nor doser is required for cycling your tank.
  20. SantaMonica recently talked about "3D scrubbing" whereby the screen & algae gets submerged under water. He said, "This is much more powerful than 2D scrubbing, where the algae is flat against the screen." Following this theory, I've been thinking about dipping a piece a piece of screen in my sump with a light shining thru' sump tank glass. It seems much easier to implement than constructing a dedicated ATS. Do you guys think this'll work?
  21. Hi people, Found a few of these critters in my filter sock when I took it out to wash. They're about 1cm in size. Not sure where they come from. Harmful to LS?
  22. Change of plans. Selling off below items: 1 piece of aluminium heat sink with flat fins 120x120x17 mm 2 pieces of aluminium heat sink with pin fins 120x120x24 mm S$10 per piece Pls. pm me with contact # if interested. Collection in the west.
  23. Hi William, Firstly, are there any corals attached to the same piece of LR where you have aptasia? If no, then remove the LR to prevent aptasia from spreading to other pieces. Then you can take your time to treat it. If yes, try to relocate coral(s) off that piece 1st.
  24. Where did they come from?
