Wow...i know that i'm just gonna be throwing gasoline to the flames here but i thought this bit of information was pretty interesting... here's something i picked up from one of your older threads nicholas: Quote: It started last wk. 2 fishes died (royal dottyback, orange tang) with a bloated tummy. U have a 2.5 feet tank....and a month ago you had close to 14 FISHES in the tank and 3 of them were mandarins?? if you DID do your research, you would know that not even 1 mandarin would be able to survive in your tank...let alone 3? No doubt, they are beautiful fishes...and many a times, i have tried to justify to myself in getting one but the thought of starving it to death (no doubt more slowly in my tank than in the LFS)...i decided against it....now i'm not saying that it's not possible to keep it.....i've researched and found ppl who have...i just didn't feel i was willing to put in the AMOUNT of time and effort it would require to keep it alive......but the ppl who have successfully kept them....have only had one...and not 3...and not in a small a system as yours.... And funny that no one has brought up about your naso tang dying in ur tank recently...those guys grow to pretty big and aren't supposed to be in your tank to begin with..... I'm sorry but from what i've read from your postings and your experience with this hobby....it's surprising that no one else has brought up about your high number of fishes and fish choice for the matter.....no wonder they're dying.... but then again...i guess if you've got the money to blow and your conscience doesn't bug you about killin those fishes, then again....ur free to do what you like..... all this is way too much for me....i think it's a lost cause...sorry.....but it really bugs me when ppl are not responsible in this hobby...and please don't try to justify that you ARE responsible...coz clearly....YOUR NOT!.....but maybe through time....you will be.....GOOD LUCK! ----i'm out-----------

Wow...i've only been gone for 3 days and this is what this thread has come to..... Interesting to see how one reply can bring out the true nature of people. I'm tempted to just not bother with this thread anymore as it has probably been a waste of time for most of us here (some more polite to admit than others) The fact of the matter is, irregardless of whether ppl have said it politely or impolitely to you, Nicholas....there is a glaring fact you will need to face up to sometime in your life....if not now, it will catch up with you in the future and that is unfortunately....ur arrogance at such a young age. I'd like to thank Jd_n for reposting my first reply to you and highlighting in the end when i said very clearly "so please don't take this post the wrong way....my only concerns are for all your livestock..." What does please don't take it the wrong way mean to you? and mind you i said PLEASE.....And please remember that my reply was solely based on your first few post which really doesn't give ppl any info whatsoever on your knowledge or your condition of your tank.....making silly statements like "don't ask me la...i don't know" gives ppl the simple impression that you just....Don't Know..... None of the ppl that posted their replies to you were trying to attack you....not even me....but because you were so defensive to begin with, you retaliated the minute an unpositive feedback came your way. As a complete waste of my time...i have actually read back the entire thread and noticed that not once have you actually taken anybody's advice...AT ALL.....u were always quick to respond to postive remarks like "Hey...nice tank"...but the minute a person were to "comment" on it....u jump the gun and start rattling off in defence for everything.... As mentioned by Kalib.....the number of post that you have on this forum unfortunately doesn't prove a thing about your knowledge in reef keeping. Listen to what you're saying in this post and tell me if it doesn't come off somewhat ignorant: Quote: "I decided to post up my tank to increase my no. of posts to date. " Is this what you mean by having numerous post? Because, i can easily run around and post a thousand post in a day but that doesn't make me more experienced in this field. Mind you i don't even claim to be experience in this field as i've had my tank for a little over half a year but i do take my time in setting my tank up and actually do alot of research..not just from this sites but various other sites as well. And your claim that your tank has been around for 4 months as Kalib and xaLmoN has pointed out isn't a very long time at all. The reason i posted my comments was simply as a word of caution to you...not as a means of attacking you... The worse thing to have in this hobby is an EGO.....no ones trying to put u down here. But from what little information that you have given us about your tank.....it's a little alarming......As you have already seen, i'll will bet my bottom dollar that if you ask anyone else in this forum...they will tell you that you have insufficient lighting for your corals....let alone an ANEMONE! And if you did some research on anemones, you'll also note that unhappy and stressed anemones tend to stick to tank walls and that is exactly what yours is doing. U seem to be contradicting yourself alot in your post which is whats making me bring up the question on whether u research. Firstly, you clearly stated in your first post "Dun as me specs" and then your reply to me states that "what you mean is, dun as me brands" There is a big difference between the two. And if you are fully aware of your specs then funny enough, why haven't you posted ur tank parameters? By doing so, it allows us a better gauge as to how your tank is doing with the extremely high bioload. Secondly, if you truly are a person that researches before anything else. Why would you need our help in IDing the sea pen in your tank. Don't you think it's just a little irresponsible to be buying livestock without knowing it's requirements and care level first...let alone it's name? Again...i'm sorry if i came off a little harsh in some parts of my thread but your response to my earlier thread was fairly dissapointing the way you obviously reacted defensively and in a hostile manner. But i suppose that is a natural human response when they feel that they are being attacked. Which is why i repeat myself over and over again...this is not an attack on you but a word of caution for the safety and long life of your inhabitants in your tank. What you choose to do from now on i suppose is entirely up to you, you can choose to take the advice given to you on this post, not just by me but apparently by others as well....or you can be contented with your current setup and "see" how long it last. Hey dude... I don't mean to be a wet blanket or anything but there's some serious problems with your setup. How much research have you done before you started this tank? Quote: "Dun ask me the specs. I know nothing, i just know i got actinic light, filter, protein skimmer. thats all lah!" Just this statement alone sorta alarms me and i'm sure many others in this forum as well. Do you know what your water parameters are? It's really important that you are aware of what these parameters are as they will determine the long term health of your corals and fishes. And having that much live stock in your tank in only 3 months since it was setup is a lil too quick....your tank needs to mature to handle the Bio Load (it's the capability of the tanks bacteria to process the waste that is being produced by your livestock in your tank) And one more thing, 11 FISHES in a 2.5 feet tank?? That my friend is WAYYY too many fishes for that little tank... At the end of the day, you are of course allowed to do as you please with your tank but if you're in this forum, i'm assuming you are here to learn in someways...so please don't take this post the wrong way....my only concerns are for all your livestock... do some more research and ask questions if you need to. And do it quick cos i doubt ur tank is going to be able to make it very long with the little that you have supporting it... good luck...

Hi there... Just needing to find out which LFS or individuals sells Nassarius Snails? And what price do they go for? Lastly what size do they come in? Information on this would be much appreciated...

Hey there Weapon Master, Unfortunately, Coco worms are not like normal tube worms/feather dusters and are actually a little more difficult to keep. Do a search on them and u'll find that they're particularly sensitive to acclimation and water conditions. Did you acclimate the Coco worm before putting it in ur tank...and if so, how was it done. If it wasn't done gradually, the Coco may have been stressed in the process (thus losing one of it's heads) Other signs would be it not opening up fully and looking a little more retracted. Unfortunately, there's not much i can think of that you can do rite now but ensure that your water quality is good and give it time to recover...if it ever does. I was lucky with mine....i didn't gradually acclimate mine too and it was all it's tentacles were retracted for about a week or so but thankfully mine started recovering after about 2 weeks. Give it some time and observe it.....hopefully it'll pull thru.

Check out: www.nano-reef.com There are a couple of members with 2.5 gallon tanks etc....i think people do it more for the challenge that most say it can't be done....but also due to space and cash constraints. You'll be surprised with how beautiful some tanks turn out.... here's an example:

Like i mentioned earlier, the only reason why i'm askin if it's possible to hook it up directly is simply because that's what was being done in the US but i suppose they're different over there in that their voltage only goes up to 110 but still don't see how it's possible for them to do it either seeing that that's a pretty high voltage as well. So in saying all this....u mind pointing me in the right direction in building an auto topoff unit? I guess if you know some one who has ready made one's, that'll be helpful as well.....but thanx again for ur input....

Dang....that's all sounding pretty complicated, i wasn't planning on adding a relay to the float switch, which one of them doesn't require for me to connect one to it? Or is that highly recommended? See, i've been doing alot of reading on Nano-reef.com and i guess the problem there is that their voltage is not rated at 200 over so most of them just connect their float switches directly to their connection points etc....and i figured it was applicable to those of us in Malaysia and Singapore as well.....am i wrong to assume this? And are float switches really that expensive? Anyone know where else i can find a float switch? The model you quoted me is going for about RM 85....that's pretty costly i thought....any other alternative places where i can find one o these? oh and thanx again for all the useful info Crab.

Hi there everyone.... I know that this question has been asked before and was told that i could find it over at Sim Lim Towers etc..but i had a friend go over there to look for it and everyone he asked there looked at him like he was from Mars or sumthin....No luck there.... Just wondering if anyone could point me to the right direction in obtaining one of these. And even better yet....if someone already has one or could purchase one for me...i'll gladly pay for the shipping cost or arrange for my friend to get it from you in Singapore (he's in the Bedok area). See, i live in KL and i can't seem to find any place that sells them apart from this LFS called 88 Marine and those crazy buggers wanted RM280 it....according to them, it's their own design etc.....BS if you ask me...all they did was buy a float switch and attached a snail guard to it and had their name printed on the snail guard...go figure..... Sorry for the bitching....been having trouble finding me one of these which is why i'm resorting to looking for it in singapore seeing that i've seem a few threads of ppl setting up auto top off systems. Anyone kind enough to help a fellow reefer out?
