nitro, i can understand your desires to keep the cost low. perhaps u can keep an eye out on the pasar malam. If you keep an eye out, you might be able to find decent deals on used equipment here's one i found http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...pic=59152&hl=t5 alternatively DIYing can be cheap as well. Anyways...u sound like u've got things under control so will leave you to it good luck with the setup.

exiled infidel, yes ur right...it is way too early in the game to say for certain how the anemones would be doing. The problem is that with the effects being gradual, ppl hardly notice the color shifts (or loss) that the anemone is experiencing overtime. I agree that sudden changes to higher intensity light would cause a shock to the animals but u must realise that 36watts of PL light is just not going to be sufficient in the long run to sustain these beautiful creatures. To make the transition gradual, nitro can easily switch two of the T5 bulbs on first and after a couple of weeks turn on all 4 tubes (should he decide to go with a 4xT5 set). I'm willing to bet that the anemones color and appearance would improve in the weeks or months following this change. That's not to say that they're not looking alright now...i agree they look healthy for the moment...but like u've mentioned...it's still early days. Anyways...no offense meant on my replies...am just sharing my experience with these animals. Made the mistake once of thinkin i could sustain them under pl lighting...and it was a slow death for the poor animal. the bleaching was so gradual that had i not taken a picture of the animal in the begining, i wouldn't have truly noticed color shift, not to mention shinkage in size. But again, feeding does help counter/delay this process. Again...all the best with it..keep us posted with pics and updates!

Just keep an eye out on the anemones tho...cos my take is that the lighting is still insufficient for the anemones. Again i'll stress that it'll take months for them to gradually lose their color. Best to provide them more light and regular feeding. Good luck with the tank tho!

Curious to know what kinda light you're using over the tank currently? The reason i ask is cos i've attempted to keep anemones under PL lights before and they die a slow death due to the lack of light. Your anemones look fairly bleached to me and i'm guessing it's due to the light (or lack of light in this case). Do take note of their color shift as it'll take a good 3-6 months for them to completely bleach or shrink due to the lack of light. Feeding them helps delay this but the bleaching will still take place as they lose their photosynthetic zoanthelea to help them produce food and provide them their color. I suggest a single 150watt MH in combination with a small chiller to ensure that the anemones have sufficient light and are in a relatively comfortable temperature. The other alternative would be to get a 4tube T5 set which should work equally as well due to the lower height of your tank. That might work better too as T5s don't produce as much heat and u might be able to get away without a chiller and keep ur fan. Only downfall for the fan is the high evap rate which means u'll need to top up very frequently to avoid too much salinity fluctuations.

Just wondering what sized sand are you using in the tank?

I know I'm gonna get flamed for saying this but i'm afraid with your extremely narrow mindset...i don't think you can ever understand....
-
In retrospect, perhaps i may not have been sympathetic enough to the plights of those that may have been cheated. Apologies to those that may have taken offense to my statement. I believe the issue here is more on how out of hand this discussion has gotten with all the flaming...

I second that....when i saw the unit i too was a lil skeptical that the CR was holding that much media. Unless the seller has the remaining media stored somewhere else.

Like Colinsoon and Clap2K (and a couple of other peace loving reefers i may have missed out )....i'm going to qualify that i'm taking a neutral stand on this. And from my visit, i must admit that all the items he's posted is legit. (tho he did get mixed up with the Deltec 600S...which from the looks of it, he's corrected in his latest post) As far as pricing is concerned...it's really something that should be agreed upon by both the buyer and seller so i don't see what all the fuss is about here. If one does get quoted u a ridiculous price, one can easily just reject the offer and move on. The fact that all the ppl here are complaining about being cheated just seems odd to me seeing that they did end up seeing the item before purchasing. At any point in time if you felt something was off, you could have easily passed on the deal but oddly enough....all of you went through with the deal and have now decided to come out and b*tch about it in public (Don't even get me started with the keyboard heroes who have decided to parade around with their "noble" cause of warning other reefers) As for being so called "newbies"...well, the problem i find here is that ppl just don't do enough "homework" and tend to be pretty rash in their dealings. Just by simply reading up in the forum, one can easily get an idea of general pricing for rocks, fishes and corals etc...so it's pretty hard to understand how one can be "conned" out of hundreds of dollars on such items. (The deception of passing off normal zoas as US Zoas is a completely different ball game altogether which i don't condone but have no proof nor experience with so i shall reserve my comments) Bottom line is, the forum is here for ppl to learn and there truly is lots to learn after seiving through all the BS that's been going on of late. As far as dirty dealings are concerned, for those that believe in Karma, what goes around comes around... nuf said...

hey Vincent... Yep...it's been a while..have been busy with the new home and new tank. Lookin forward to gettin back into things. How're the fishes doing? As for the rocks...sure...lemme know when ur done rescaping...cos i'll only need the rocks in 2-3 weeks time. Do u happen to have SST Tangs number and address? Might look him up to check out his rocks. cheers

Hi guys and gals, My tank is gonna be ready in abt 2-3 weeks and i'm currently on my liverock hunt. Wondering if anyone's got large size liverocks for sale. I'm more particular abt shape and size than i am about coraline cos i can always grow the coraline back as the tank matures. So anyone with any rocks to let go, lemme know.. cheers, Kenny

This should be an interesting thread to follow. I too have always wondered how most tanks integrate with the overall house decor. Am in the midst of constructing mine so it'll be a month or so before i can post my pictures but would be good to see what most other reefers tanks look in their homes. So lets get the pics rolling! Perhaps to give a sense of perspective, ya'll also might wanna include the actual tank dimensions too!

ok nevermind...just read the writeup....but i take it the price u paid didn't include the controller? If so, is it just running at 12000lph all the time now?

bro...maybe you oughta chill on this as well...no point bringing up "grandmother" stories in this forum... Let it all go already. Let's not start a trend of ppl dumpin out their dirty laundry and bitching constantly. If you really have a problem with another reefer..spare us the bullsh*t and pm him/her directly... My apologies if i sound harsh but these last few days have been such a drag listening to all the whining....besides...i ran outta popcorn -
On a serious note tho...what did happen to the sharks?
-
Did you purchase your wavebox just recently? There's been a number of cases reported on this with the newer batches apparently. Might wanna check back with the place you bought it from. Others that have been using the wavebox previously have not had much issues. I just choose to take it that the latest batch is faulty.

Also be mindful of your bio load. I had a pair a while back too and they have a habit of being messy and greedy eaters. Eg, the pair will tear off a starfish leg and munch on it for a bit but after a while would leave the leg and go back to the starfish and tear another leg off...leaving the last leg to wander and sometimes eventually die off (pretty gruesome eh? ) Since you'll be keeping it in a small tank (mine was a 2 footer first then a 3ft), you have to be delligent in removing the uneater leg before it starts decomposing and causing spikes in your system. It's a messy job but that's the tradeoff in keeping them. It helps if ur skimmer is oversized, that'll allow u some buffer on maintaining water quality. The other messy alternative is to keep the starfishes in the sump and cut off a leg and feed em every few days... Good luck with it.
