Recommended flow rate for Arctica 1/10 hp Chiller
southpaw23 replied to southpaw23's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Cheers man...thanks for the quick response...i take it that's a safe assumption as long as the gph of the pump does not exceed the max flowrate of the chiller right? -
Hi all, I'm wanting to find out what's the recommended flow rate for the chiller. It states that the minimum flow rate should be 240gph, and recommended max of 480gph, and actual max flow in specs at 960gph. Currently using an Eheim 1250 with a flow rate of 1200lph which gives me about 315gph...minus headloss etc...it's probably less. I'm wondering if going with a Rio 8hf would be a good idea. It has a flow rate of 2200lph...around 570 gph...but taking into account the possible headloss from water travelling to and from the chiller....i would think that the flow rate would be around 500gph or so (just a guesstimate). Question is...will i see visible improvement in the chilling of my tank temperature. Theoretically speaking...the increase in turnover rate should improve and reduce chilling time with the condition that the chiller is able to handle the actual turnover and seeing that the model has a max flow rate of 960, would it be safe to assume that it's chiller's efficiency would be the same at 240 gph and 500gph? Anyone with experience/thoughts/inputs?.....

Doh!.... Silly me...thanks for the heads up guys.... Good point Tineng...but i'm pretty sure it should be safe for saltwater use right? I mean Titanium?....don't see any issues there....
-
Here's a picture of the Teco TR models...apparently all the models TR 10, 15 and 20 fit in the same casing..
-
Isn't the price the same as these models...if i'm not mistaken, they cost probably more? I thought these units go for over a grand....do correct me if i'm wrong though cos i haven't really done much research on PCs... Besides...i much prefer the aesthetics of the Teco model as opposed to the PC and if they cost around the same price, u have to admit, Teco's name kinda outweights PCs.....
-
That's a great link bonjour2...now if only i can read italian...or whatever the language is... Tell u what though...those units look slick....i might be tempted to try me one of these....
-
Good point....i mean if you think about it....the price is very attractive and it still carries the Teco brand name so i doubt it could be that bad. This sorta ends up in a vicious circle then, ppl not trying it cos it's not proven, and it's not proven cos not enough ppl are trying it. There must be someone on here that has bought the unit...it seems unlikely that no one has bought one yet...so, whoever u are...now's the time to speak up
-
That does not look like it's 3ft in height unless the hood is covering alot of the tank. But good buy nonetheless...
-
I don't know about built in UV etc but the units were showcased at Aquarama, if i'm not mistaken over at Aquatechnics booth.... But yes, they are supposedly all under a grand... Unfortunately, i haven't found a website that showcases these units though. That's why i was lookin to the boards to see if anyones got them yet....
-
I don't think the RA 240 is the 1/2 hp, that's the RA 680, if i'm not mistaken the RA 240 is 1/4 hp But upz for ur sale either way...good buy....

diy light hood 250w w/ballast and 14k hamilton bul
southpaw23 replied to [JS]'s topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
What type of balast is it? Magnetic or eBallast? How old and what color temp is the bulb? Lastly how much u lookin to get for it? cheers ps. sorry about the 20 questions -
Hi there... Am just wanting to check out if anyone here has gotten the new Teco TR models, TR10, 15 and 20 rated for tank sizes from 200l to 1500l among the 3 models. Surprisingly all these models cost less than a grand (due to reasons i'm unsure if i should specify)...nothing bad though, still comes with a 1 year warranty. But under a grand for a teco chiller sounds like a pretty good deal. Just wondering if anyone out there has bought one of these units? And if so, how's the performance of the unit. They were on showcase back at Aquarama. Anyone? cheers, Kenny

Ever considered going for two 55watt PLs instead? Two tubes would put out 110watts of light for your tank which should be sufficient to keep almost any LPS and softies.... just a thought...

Can anyone help me to set up a marine tank?
southpaw23 replied to leekokshiong's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
On the contrary....nano tanks are really not that hard to keep. It's just a different method of reefing. For more info, i suggest u head on over to www.nano-reef.com and read up as much as you can on there. No doubt it is a US website and some things dont apply here like their temp control seeing that we're alot hotter and humid in our part of the world but a simple fan blowing at the water surface will easily solve that problem...evaporative cooling...only downfall is the constant topping up of water u have to do everyday, unless u decide to invest in an auto top up device which'll solve all ur headaches as far as evap is concerned. I've been keeping nano tanks for 2 years now and to be frank with you, it has been a breeze to keep...but i don't venture into complicated corals like sps and have only stuck with LPS, softies etc. But i have ran both my tanks without a skimmer or a sump, and have basically relied on internal circulation and water changes and it has served me fine this whole time. The difference with smaller tanks is that the ability to do a 10-20% waterchange is very possible when dealing with only 10-20gallons of water...and by doing this, u would be exporting the unwanted nutrients from the tank and replenishing the needed nutrients as well. I can go on and on but it's better if you do the reading up at the website so i don't bore u to tears...good luck with the reading and the hobby...and welcome to the zany world of reefkeeping.... -
Thanks Mind checkin what kinda bulb (i'm assuming PL like u mentioned) and how many watts as well?
