southpaw23 replied to dfstan's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Thanks for the heads up! Really lookin forward to watchin the documentary seeing that i don't foresee makin my way to Okinawa anytime in the near future. -
i think it's cos of his "desires" to be at the cutting edge....BM considered budget skimmer la...too cheap...lol! kiddin ya....
-
Yeah...let us know how the skimmer does with the raised water level. Catching fishes out of a 6 feet tank is going to be tricky..have you tried setting traps? Good luck with getting them out! i bet ur dying to bring in some pratas and cynarinas into ur tank eh? Oh and tough break on having to end up getting new stuff after selling off the old ones..... oh well, we live and learn in this hobby....

That's some funny shit...pod harvesting with tweezers.... Changing skimmer already??

Are you dry skimming? Looks like the necks getting choked with sludge, you might wanna consider raising the water level in the neck. Unless it's dry skimming ur going for, then forget what i just said The tanks comin along nicely tho....i like it with corals better than when it was just FOWLR But ur right, it is a pity that no pratas, blastos etc can be placed because of the angel. Oh well, u look like ur on ur way with stockin it full of mushrooms Keep the pics comin!

Glad to see you finally decided on your skimmer. Tho i haven't used an HnS personally, rest assured that it would do great in ur tank. After all, they're using similar needlewheel pumps as the Deltecs if i'm not mistaken. Shoot some pics of the new sump. And the aquabee does sound like a good choice, u can also consider AquaMedic Ocean Runners, they're pretty power efficient as well. Keep the updates comin!

You are correct, which is why beckets have a much higher flow rate than needlewheels...i guess we'll be going into processing efficiency of skimmers if we start talkin about that.... I guess my comments were more to be taken on a general basis....but to answer ur question, yes, it's difficult to measure actual headloss so generally speaking, getting a turnover rate to be a little over the skimmer rate would be advisable. cheers!
-
mind you, different skimmers have different ways of effectively processing the water, and generally, becketts come with much higher flowrates but lesser contact time, as opposed to needlewheels which are the opposite. In ur case, looks like the becket would be having a significant amount of flow (with the iwaki)...and if the tank-sump turnover ends up becoming less than the flowrate of the skimmer, the other way to look at it would be that the skimmer would be a pseudo recirculating skimmer, ie. recirculating the sump water before hitting the main tank... *gotta work on my explanation skills*...sorry if i'm not makin sense...
-
Like Jervis mentioned, the 10 times turnover is merely a gauge. At the end of the day, the turnover between the main tank and the sump is to ensure that water is processed by the skimmer and chiller and whatever other equipment you have in the sump. For example, if your skimmer turnsover 2000litres per hour, having a turnover rate of less than that from the sump to maintank is not going to be effective as the skimmer would be processing more sump water than main tank water (figuratively speaking). At the same time, having turnover rates of beyond 2000 at say 4000 litres per hour etc doesn't quite give that much benefit either as the skimmer is still only processing at 2000 litres per hour. So the other 2000 or so litres is just going to be directed back into the maintank for the purpose of additional flowrate. So at the end of the day, if it's cost that is your consideration, two main things to consider is, 1. Ensure you have a sufficient skimmer for the tank volume. 2. Ensure that sufficient turnover is present that matches the skimmers processing volume. Hope i'm making some sense.

Nice shipment Jervis, good to see the livestock made it safe and sound....post the full pic of the black tang already....

Wrong forum dude...he's not the boss here....
-
hey buddy...the lack of response may be due to the fact that ur sale items dont look to be in too good shape. For starters, the "huge" hammer seems to be dead or dying and the anemone seems bleached. I could be wrong about the hammer tho, perhaps a better picture might help. But from the looks of it, the skeleton seems to be showing at the top. On the bright side, ur mushrooms seem to be alright So upz for you

wheres the pic? And how much you lookin to get for it?

Is the admin or mod all dead in SRC?
southpaw23 replied to moorish_idol's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
That "so-called clown" doesn't represent the majority, so don't go around misleading newbies. With the exception of the few trouble-makers, there's still lots to learn and lots of helpful individuals here. It's ppl like you who make false/quick judgement and more so spread ill-informed information to newbies about the forum that's sad to me. Doesn't make u any better than the ones ur condemning. -

Good to know there's no hard feelings . And perhaps you're right about the lack of presence of the mods and admin on this forum...i frankly cant say for certain...as my observations may not be as thorough/as much as yours i suppose (tho i have seen AT and some of the mods stepping in more often lately tho). i guess i just choose to have a lil faith that they are looking into things, even tho not visible to most. And with regards to the cheating incidents, i believe the ones that were making the most noise weren't the ones that were cheated but merely other outraged forumers...so if the victims don't speak up or take action, one cant expect the admins to do it for them. but my facts could be wrong so don't quote me -

Dude...dont be mistaken...i am not on your side by anymeans and don't condone what ur trying to stir up on this forum. I just simply choose to ignore you. So to be clear, i don't agree with what you do, and frankly agree with Colinsoon on what a retard you are. Beyond this post, i'll just continue ignoring you. Good luck creating a "reputation" for yourself here on SRC...i foresee that ur lil shananigans won't be on for too much longer -

Ur right..but only to a certain extent...a forum administrator cannot be held liable for every single incident that takes place in this place. There are guidelines posted and at the end of the day, it is the buyer and sellers responsibility to safeguard themselves from harm (ie being cheated etc...) It's absurd to go blaming an administrator for all the problems that arise on this forum. It's like going to a pub and having your hp get stolen, then going to the bar owner and blaming him for it or complaining that more was not done to have prevented it from happening. We are all grown ups here (with the except of a few minors), and we've all been duped at some point in our lives...take it as a lesson and be mindful in the future...and for goodness sakes...be mature enough about it to not look for someone to blame for ones own misfortune. Now i'm not saying that the mods and admin shouldnt do anything at all, of course they should help, but they cant be expected to know about EVERYTHING that goes on in ths dang forum, EVERY second of the time. Anyways...no hard feelings on my post and i hope i haven't offended you or anyone else. -

There are only a few rotten apples that seem to be spoiling the overall image of this place. I don't believe the majority is as you put it...backstabbers, profiteers etc.... Most of us still come here just to live, learn and enjoy the hobby as is....not taking things too seriously and couldn't be bothered to be involved in all the politics. As to the mods turning a blind eye....i suppose we'll find out soon enough. Didnt he already mention that they're in the process of taking legal action? Perhaps they're just gathering evidence Regardless, there only seems to be barely a handful of "trouble-makers" that seem to be up to mischief in these forums. Plus the whole multinicking trend we're seeing these days...it could all well be the works of a single individual or two. (mind you i'm only speculating) Well, i guess the outcome of all this remains to be seen..but lets not be so quick to judge what the admin and mods have been up to. I doubt it's an easy task managing forums...especially when it's obvious that there are individuals out there bent on runining the image and reputation of this place. I still like what AT said at the end of the day, that if you're not happy leave..... why stay on and bitch about administration? (mind you there's a big difference between bitching and having "constructive" feedback) If u have no faith in them, then leave, and if you do, then be patient and know that there's always a reason behind every action taken, or not taken for the matter. And at the end of the day, if you're still not happy...then leave. I don't see what's so difficult about it. Please don't get me wrong...i'm not trying to come off as some self-rightous nut here. I will admit, i don't have all the details....and i don't claim to know all that has taken place in the past. But heck, i'm not here for a soap opera...and don't bother following all the past "drama" and "pop-corn sessions" as you put it....just a casual reefer wanting to learn more and perhaps make new friends along the way...don't see why it has to get anymore complicated than that. -
Hi Jem, Just wondering what did you mean by two fixtures? Are there two light fixtures connected to a single ballast? Would it come with the wooden panel to hold the light fixture? May have a friend who's interested. cheers
