Weekly Update - 19th to 25th Oct 09

Wa sounds like some conspiracy.. A conspic conspiracy! -
Confirmed all 3 of my ventralis gone! Weisheng hope your ventralis are doing well. Henry sms and told me the ventralis in his shop also died a lot, and all those tat died develop the same symptoms of red marks on the side body tat i encountered. One reefer bought 20 pieces of ventralis and within the first few days 9 died with the red marks symptoms. Guess this fish survival rate is 40% or less.

Yes i also got a pair of rhomboid from this batch and the female died after 1 day but lucky the male make it. Rhomboids if not handled well during shipping the whole batch can be v fragile. Plus it's an expensive fish, wat a costly risk. BTW, v nice tank and v nice chaoti.

How's your ventralis doing. Mine trio were doing fine for the past few days, they eat v well and took almost everything and were always out in the open. The male and one of the female had some minor open wound marks developed at one side of their body, those same marks u can see on a bandit angel which is slowly wasting away. This morning both of them died and the third one is now hiding for the whole day because of the lack of accompany, so i suspect she's not gg to survive pass today also. I dun think the higher temp (i decrease it to 26 since 2 days ago) is the full cause of the death, i should have QT the fish w melafix to prevent the external infection. Guess this is the last time i'm trying this fish after the only female left dies.

OMG! Look at these hybrids and rare fishes!

Found these info from RC and Web: No, it is a juvenile form of G.Takeuchii like wat Fuel said. G.Takeuchii is the biggest of the genus growing up to 14 inches. It is found only in Ogasawara Japan, a national park (also a world heritage site like Lord Howe) where all collections of animals are illegal and as such this fish is not available to the trade. G.Takeuchii can be found at scuba depth and is rather common in Ogasawara water. It is also a cool water fish like Wrought Iron butterflyfish. There were illegal poaching of the fish in the past and they were sold at crazy price of 5-figures. Personally i feel the adult form is reli ugly and with its cool water requirement and big size, it should be better off left in the ocean. -

Recently a few of our LFSes started bringing in Mauritius and South Africa shipment and we get to see some of the common fishes from that area like gem tang and chrysogaster clowns being brought in. Thus this brings our attention to wat kind of rare fishes are there from Mauritius and SA that we may expect to see these future shipments? 1. Paracheilinus Attenuatus (Kenya) 2. cirrhilabrus sanguineus (Mauritius) -

Haha I'm only interested in the mccullochi, but due to the temperature requirement and most likely tag with a ridiculous high price, guess will pass. Platinum clown does not appeal to me. Feminus need thick sandbed and too many pple will fight for the fish, so i no chance. Looking forward to grade A picasso clowns in the ORA shipment instead.

Excellent, Terryz think u're right on 1,3,4 and 7. 2) Synodus dermatogenys looks v close but not confident. 5) I found it, it's Zeus faber. 6) does not look like hamlet family, my guess is from some perchlet or anthias family. 8) is a mystery to me too. -
