Wah thanks Dr Gill! I did not know there are two color forms to Trachinops taeniatus. Pic here for comparison Normal form Red and yellow form Is it a locality variant? Or is it just aberrations in few individuals? I have yet to see the red and yellow form in the trade. -

Trachinops taeniatus is a beautiful fish! However the wild harvested ones don't do well in our tropical climate. I am not sure if they are poor shippers, but those that came in last time were mostly in bad condition. However thanks to ORA, this beautiful species has now been captive bred! Scythe butterflyfish Prognathodes falcifer
Digiman replied to ml708's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Need alot of effort and money to get one. Only one batch came into Japan after waiting for 20 yrs! In that batch only one survived. Anyway there are other beautiful, expensive and obtainable prognathodes around. If you are willing to pay there are two of them your consideration will be prognathodes basabei and prognathodes guyanensis. One guyanensis has came in. However no basabei yet. -
Although Ecsenius genus is considered reef-safe, Midas blenny (Ecsenius Midas) is considered one of the most aggressive and problematic of the genus. Midas have been reported, on very rare occasions though, to nip or soft corals and LPS and even the fins of some bigger fishes. So if you are telling us your midas is disturbing your clams, i wouldnt be surprised. However just kept it well-fed and hopefully the disturbing will stop after awhile. Our aquarium food tastes much better than the clam, so usually they will stop harassing the clam after some time unless the clam is dying and secreting slime which will attract fishes to feast on them.

Need help, Looking for school fishes.
Digiman replied to crownpairs's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
There are many species of anthias (pseudanthias). Many of which found commonly in our LFS are quite difficult to keep alive and i wont recommend them to new reefers. One such fish that i will avoid is pseudanthias tuka (purple queen anthias). Without heavy feeding the fish perish very quickly in captivity. Others not recommended ones include pasculus, smithvanizi, evansi, flavoguttatus etc. For cheap and easy one, i strongly recommend pseudanthias squampinnis (blue-eye lyretail anthias). Green chromis is a good schooling fish to keep. They are cheap and relatively easy. About 10% or so will die of shipping stress or transport stress, after that the rest that survive will do very well. There are actually two species of green chromis that we commonly find in the LFS and they are chromis viridis and chromis atripectoralis. Both are very similar looking (almost identical and even very experienced reefers can get confused) and relatively easy in terms of care. -
