Where is the fishes and coral come from?
Digiman replied to Gideon's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
The fishes and corals (esp LPS and softies) found in LFS are still largely harvested from the ocean. It may seem that we are over-harvesting the ocean for our marine hobby but in reality the damage done to the ocean through collection for the marine trade is nothing compared to the damage done by fish trawlers harvesting the ocean for food. Bottom trawlings especially can do large-scale damage to ocean bottom and cause massive solid pollution to the sea area being dredged. In this hobby over-collecting a species in the wild is not very likely. Take for instance yellow tang, one of the most common fish in our hobby. We collect by the thousands each year but yet scientific data has shown that the population of yellow tangs in the wild is still healthy and thriving, unaffected by our harvest. However if yellow tang ever becomes a food fish one day, its population will be greatly reduced due to over-collection by commercial fish trawlers. That said it does not mean that we can be oblivious to the harms, no matter how small, we are causing to the environment. We still have to do our part in keeping the hobby sustainable and to help protect the environment. Be a conscientious and responsible hobbyist by always researching on your livestock before you buy it. Practice good husbandry and support net caught and not cyanide caught fishes. -
In my opinion the most beautiful cleaner wrasse, however it is also the most difficult cleaner wrasse to keep alive. I tried twice and they just cannot survive. Others i know that have tried the fish share the same experience. So, if you are trying do not be hopeful. If you are hopeful then do not try.

Priolepis can be kept in the main tank even with boisterous fish. They can be interesting to watch in a big tank so u may consider adding other priolepis to main instead of refugium. How about gg for other non burrowing gobies? Some of my favourites are Coryphopterus, Elacatinus and Tryssogobius for your consideration. I was nvr able to keep them becos of their need for a small peaceful setup.

Lemon, You mentioned there was a triplefin that appeared at Iwarna, is it the same as this one below? Dejong labelled this as Tripterygiidae sp. Also this parapercis i see it regularly at Coral Farm. Again labelled as sp. by Dejong. -

That photo is a prognathode "basabei" taken at kona, hawaii. They labelled it as prognathode guezei which i believe is a typo error and they meant prognathode cf. guezei. Don't forget there is also another unidentified prognathode found in Palau deepwater which is almost identical to prognathode "basabei" of hawaii. In fact i believe they would be the same species. This butterfly was seen in this 2007 BBC video together with Abei angel and chromis abyssus at 100m depth when Rich Pyle, Brian Greene and John Earle were collecting new species. -

I first come across this picture of the tanyokidus when i was searching for the identity of my bodianus sp from Tahiti. While the colors of the two are quite similar (assuming the color of the dead fish above is accurate) the body shapes point towards different species. Locations where they come from are also different. For comparison: Bodianus sp. (A young fish) Bodianus sp. (An adult, pic taken by Copps) -

Came in through a Marshall Island shipment on 28th July 2013. Fish is 7cm and was sold at 105000 yen at Japan Lagoona LFS http://lagoona.ocnk.net/product/2528. Previous batch of fish from another LFS sold for 98000 yen. So its en expensive pencil, but look at that fish! The electric blue! I want one! -

Beautiful! Somehow reminds me of pseudocoris aquelis. There are too many rare meiacanthus unavailable to the trade. The one that captivates me the most will still be the deepest Meiacanthus Erdmanni! This blenny is found at over 200ft in Cenderawasih Bay. Why does a blenny need to stay so deep? This fish needs a private interview! -
