OMG! Look at these hybrids and rare fishes!
Digiman replied to Digiman's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
The black lines on the flame angel is like our human finger prints, every fish has different markings. This flame jux has a slightly more erratic black markings than usual. But to me it's jux another flame. It shows no traits of hybrid or rusty or shepardi angel at all. Also the nice thing about shepardi and rusty flame is tat they're a beautiful deep mango orange colour rather than a simple red of a normal flame. Tat's my personal opinion and u can disagree. -
Try feeding prazi soaked food since the fish is eating. Hopefully it heals, internal problem is v hard to cure most of the times.

Some pics from the net of some beautiful redsea fishes, many of which are endemics. I think most of us are quite familiar w the species, G.Caudovittatus, A.Bicinctus, C.Pauscifasciatus, Regal, Racoon, P.Octotaenia, Thalassoma Rueppellii. -

V nice. Who knows we may have gotten them in the past mix w tricolour anthias during bali shipment. The difference between leucozonus and tricolour is only most significant at the forehead. Some wild photos of yellow mask and swallow tail co-existing: -

yellow mask availability is quite random. Certain period of the year there can be quite a number of females appearing at one time but most of the time i agree we dun see them at all. Caudovittatus is rare, each time only one or two. Just be more patient, recently we've been seeing many unusual fishes which has never before appeared in our LFS history, so anything w a slight chance of possibility can now happen. Anyway here are three fishes i quite like. 1)Canary Damsel, this little jewel from cook island when are u coming to singapore? 2)Spotted hybrid lemonpeel, if vanuatu shipment is still around, this type of hybrids will be selling at a small fraction of the price of the so called ultra hybrid at RB recently. 3)Sailfin anthias (Rabaulichthys sp), awesome anthias imagine keeping a group, but looks quite delicate. -

Genicanthus is the most haremic angel genus. Like fairy wrasses, they need a harem for one to stay male. Unless u're able to obtain a spawning pair (which in this case will be a truely mated pair) which is able to maintain regularly spawning behaviour so as the male find a need to remain male. For example Dr Wing's spawning pair of personatus here. So if u can find one male yellow mask and if u really like the fish, i think it's worthwhile to get a few more females and sell off all your other genicanthus species (esp the males) so as to keep the male male. -

I wont expect this orange for that fish coming, i think like u said only dark yellow... The rare anthias is Aurora Anthias from deepwater Palau. Aurora anthias fetch v high price in japan and they are frequently caught together w the deepwater earlei wrasse also at Palau. So when japan has earlei shipment they'll also get aurora. This deepwater anthias are not seen in any other countries, as up till now all caught are sent to japan to justify the price. The conspic x personifer is my dream hybrid. It may be ugly but i jux like the fish, the yellow and brown are mix in a much nicer tone than a conspic itself! -

All the skunk comples are so similar, like how all the clarkii complex look so identical to me. I like this a lot, PNG Leucokranos, differ from the Solomon island Leucs by being more orange! -

This one is so cool. I realise a few rare species of the wrasses u posted are from Lembeh Straits, wonder why they are not collected, so near to us. It's white cannot compare to this: White can be mesmerizing. I jux saw the vid of the snow basslet posted by reborn and it's omg, i'm starting to like the fish! -

The japanese again will occasionally get these fishes together w liopropoma tonstrinum. Both of which are S$4500 price each. Below is a pic of the famous japanese poe-poe fish tank housing one africanum and one tonstrinum. -

Amazing tank, one of the most successful SPS tank w many angelfishes. Genicanthus revert to females easily. To retain their sex as a male, they need to feel male, so in John Copps' tank w so many other big fishes esp the big blueline, the genicanthus does not feel male enough even w the presence of one female and hence change back. That's my guess. Why u get this fish again? I tot u dun wan? Anyway too shy a fish for my liking unless keep smaller and peaceful tank den can appreciate it's beauty. SL confirmed cannot get the real shepardi from Guam or Japan! But i do hope they are serious about getting the rusty-flame, cos it's possible as they are found in greater numbers in Cebu. -

The Tongan flame wrasse, Fiji flame wrasse(now known as nachakyi wrasse) and the vanuatu flame wrasse are all very similar to each other. Personally I would say all three are the same fish but colour variants due to locales. These fishes have been around for ages and always jux labelled cirrhilabrus sp. They're still awaiting formal ID and DNA mapping or test or watever u biologists call it in order to confirm if they're the same species. Dr Tanaka, wat's taking u so long! Anyway rare fish time. The rarer among the lipogrammas, lipogramma regia! -

Finally know the name of the chromis at LCK thanks to chingchai, but sadly it's not a chromis but a damsel. Chrysiptera rollandi, interestingly this fish has two colour variants and is one of the less aggressive and best damsels to keep! So if u wan a cute and peaceful damsel, there are still four at LCK. -
