It looks like a calcerous algae- with a single thallus type. Nice stuff. Good rockwork. Love the open design.

In repsonse to Hammerhd's query, might be better to work in Singapore then cash out and relocate to thailand. Its tough to have singaporean living standards on a thai salary. Other option is to find a thailand posting. Labour is inexcess in thailand, the other option is capital. Without capital, no way you can survive over there. A salaried job will kill you. There's the one year long stay programme as mentioned, unless you qualify for thaksin's thailand GOLD VIP scheme. Otherwise, difficult.

Hi Jaslyn, it boils down to economics. Singapore is an excellent country, its safe, clean, efficient. But as a first world nation, the costs of living is pretty steep compared to our neighbouring states. For the same cost as a 3 room HDB flat, a Singaporean can get a large bungalow with easy access to fantastic beaches and beautiful mountain trekking. Costs of living is low, allowing your dollar to stretch far as compared to Singapore. I think anyone would has travelled to thailand has experienced the amazing bargains. Moving to a "third world" is not for everyone, but it is an extremely logical and (to me) smart move. One can afford to retire earlier, get better property, in thailand as compared to Singapore or the more popular destinations like NZ or Australia. Plus, as an Asian country, thailand offers a similar culture and lifestyle, and a Singaporean can easily blend in to the population. Oh yeah and tremendous savings on medical costs too.

Falling in love again in his twilight years ...
riot replied to lizard44's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Its the security and the maturity of the older dudes that get the babes, not to mention the style and class they exude compared to young horny guys. But going back to the topic, illicit ###### is often the best ######. Thats why so many people get their rocks off on those office affairs, doing dirty deeds at strange places, etc. They might not have the intimacy of a familiar couple, but image the sheer adrenaline rush. But I got to take my hat off for the girl- playing an older man for all its worth and dumping him when the trophy has been collected. Let me hum the chorus from a popular song: The female of the species is more deadly than the male. -

Falling in love again in his twilight years ...

OK, I hate to admit it, but I have a mercenary attitude towards love. I do not see it wise to bind yourself to an unloving and hostile relationship, when everything is soured. People change, and they sometimes drift apart. If what you put into the marriage is not being rewarded, or it is costing too much emotional burden, then settle the issue. Go for the Big D. Having said that, it doesnt mean that at the first sign of crisis you bail out. You have to weigh the long term, plus the value of "history". In a good strong relationship, this mercenary attitude works extremely well, bcause you 1) dont take the relationship as a given 2) you are aware it takes effort and close monitoring of your emotional shares 3) you understand that you have a deep emotional investment into the relationship, and dropping it all will mean complete bankruptcy and starting ALL OVER AGAIN. But seriously, if it doesnt mean anything at all to your friend, the kids and the family, then he is living a lie if he continues on. Be a man, settle it fairly. Dont double time. -
Falling in love again in his twilight years ...

I am not sure, but I feel that is his life. If he finds that this current relationship is more meaningful and exciting, and is willing to drop the decades of familiarity and stability with his wife and kids, then let him carry on. Its up to him to put the real value on his family, and he has to accept the consequences of his acions. He is a big boy, walk him through the pros and cons, but dont preach. This is his path to take, not anyone's else. That bit of philosophy asie, it sure is exciting to learn the stuff that goes on in the Uni. Damn, I wish I was smarter....... -
Hi! Iam no expert but would like to help out in whatever limited way I can. the sump from RC qould require two overflows, or a tee off from a single overflow. Note this aspect as it might not be feasible with your design. Retain your current sump, and place the macro algae in the 11.5inch section (the last compartment). Screen your return pump so you wont get choked with debris. Dump the DSB- you dont have enough space, and it wont work well anyway if its of such limited volume.

Congrats!

how much does a person need to sleep per day?
riot replied to Lester's topic in General Reefkeeping_
You should get enough sleep so that you dont feel tired throughout the day. Alternatively, short naps also counts. If you are constantly exhausted and with short attention spans, unable to focus, you dont have enough sleep. I sleep 8 hrs myself. -
Paradiz Reef has got a whole tank of baby blue tangs. Really small- thumb size? Might want to check that out. Hope this helps. Cheers

Derrick is also extremely firendly too.

Performance for the Prism is poor. Works OK for 2 ft and smaller tanks. No way it can service anything larger as foam density is paltry. Looks nice though.

RAV- Think about the deisgn or theme you want, who is going to use the space (gonna have kids, or you and Mrs alone), possiblity of re-sale? These factors are gonna affect your plan. If you plan to have kids, dont go for the minimalist look- its too cold for brightly coloured go carts and such. do you want a modern zen feel, or a resorty bali style thingy. Think about that, look thru interior decor books for inspiration. Dont skimp on the permanent stuff- tiles, flooring, WC- lots of hacking if you dont like it. The other stuff you can buy piece meal. Think quality- good furniture will LAST. They will even look great worn down. Zen stuff. Ikea looks great NEW, but with a scratch, there goes the fantastic look. Oh yeah and STORAGE STORAGE STORAGE.

Do you have any specific brands? Tamiya you cab get from the distributor at North Bridge Road- Tai Shing (?) THe other places with a better armour selection would be bugis and Marina Square (not too sure if its still around). The shopping centre with John Little (?) next to Somerset MRT and cross the road from centrepoint has been around for a long time, they would carry the verlinden stuff. Hope this helps.

Whatever makes you say that?!?!? A low maintenance woman to me is the spinster next door- no makeup, lousy hair, bad bad bad BO and for the love of god i hope NO ###### DRIVE!

I think newbies give up on the hobby mainly due to lack of success. They are unsuccessful as they are either fed the incorrect information, or lulled into a herd mentality where difficult hard core corals/ fish are the way to go. They also tend to follow trends, in equipment and methodologies, often following whispered advice from other reefers on line. When they fall, they burn much time and money, then become disillusioned and quit. I am not saying that the newbie is not at fault. But understand that they are very new, they look to others on the board for information. There is a tremendous pool of information here, some of which might not be entirely useful to beginners or pegged to their level. These guys go in, absorb the wrong stuff, aspire to take on challenging live stock in a barely cycled tank. Even for seniors, reefing is a difficult and challenging task. If its easy, most would have switched to Luo Hans long ago. Even AT had to face the daunting task of resurrecting his wiped out tank a few times. How many of the beginners would have the determination to start all over again? I dont know- its a difficult hobby.

Hi Roidan, we split the bill and I sponsored 5 tables. No actual bride price was paid- my mum in law actually bribed off the girlfriends blocking my entry herself. So no eal need to pay Ang Pow Check with your fiance's side as to what their expectations. You might get lucky - they could be quite modern and dont really care about GIVING their precious daughter away.

Hi! Looking to get rid of my "old school" Calcium Reactor. Its a 1.5yr + special commission from Ian, easy to top up and dispose of uncomsumed media. Its a basic design easy to setup. Foot print is 8 X 10 inch. Height: 24.5 inch. Diameter of body is about 4 inch. Driven by an eheim 1250 circulation pump. Good stuff for cheap price - $300. Pre loaded with CARMS media and Magnesium Pro granules. Additional tub of ARMS media for $50. Interested buyers can view at AMK. Cheers!

But seriously, is there any difference between the Reg, GOld, Platinum Cards other than prestige? I hardly ever touch mine- I live in fear of over spending. Besides, my wife gives me $10 allowance per day only.
