It is probably declining rapidly. From experience, a tiny new sprout will grow & survive better than a big piece. But up to a certain size, it will decline again because the captive reef tank cannot sustain this species' needs.

Did you build the Kriesel tank yourself?

Mangroves need ample light to grow and they grow too slowly to be of much use. I highly recommend chaetomorpha.... easy to grow, easy to harvest.

Try fresh raw shrimps.

Seahorses are not banned for sale. The LFS here just need to ensure that CITES permits are in order when importing seahorses. They do occasionally come in, like Reborn, one of our sponsors. Give them a call. The best seahorses are captive bred seahorses which are adapted to marine tanks and feed readily on frozen brine or mysis shrimps, unlike wild caught ones which need a lot of training or even refuse to eat except live foods. Basically a species only tank for seahorses is best. Get one that is 3 times the height of the seahorse for comfort. structures for them to grasp, no boisterious tankmates, no micro bubbles in the tank. Good liverock with ample microlife eg. pods... no stinging hydroids present. This should get you off started well. Cheers!

Tip: stock up SLOWLY and monitor the parameters again... the parameters may be stable because you probably have zero bioload now. Once you have stuff in there, start feeding... you'll then go through a natural spike which may not be dangerous but enough to start seeing nuisance algae... which is perfectly normal btw. Yes the tamban hooks come in multiples.... you may have to modify a little to get a long enough line if you only want to use one ie. cut the rest out. Its cheap.

You can try it as I've done it before. Go to the angling supplies shop, buy the smallest possible hook used for baitfishing... tamban hook.... in local terms.... make sure that you crush the barb so the fish's mouth will be untraumatized. It should be fun!

Just to update those SRC members and sponsors that helped out that our trip was successful! In collaboration with White Manta Divers, we had a 'freedom from captivity' exercise by releasing back into the wild some livestock bought from LFS and some donated by some SRC members (who chose to remain anonymous but the fishes thank you!). We released some mandarinfishes, seahorses and frogfishes around the Pulau Aur/Jack Rock area. We carefully chose livestock that are endemic to our indo-pacific/sub tropical waters and these were released into areas where there's ample shelter & food supply. We had repeat dives and spent considerable time to ensure that they were well. LATEST UPDATE: Two of the frogfishes were located successfully a good 10 days after release! I also had the privilege to give a reef conservation talk onboard White Manta to about 20 divers on our impact on the living reefs. I also touched on the marine aquarium hobby and how we are to exercise due care with responsible reefkeeping and of course, SG REEF CLUB and our role in educating hobbyists! (Some of the divers were ex-marine aquarists and were amazed that the hobby has progressed so much over the years and we could grow SPS corals successfully now! We could see some new members soon! ) Topics were discussed like human damage to the reefs were made poignantly clear when we actually spotted some 5 very big bubu or fish traps crashed atop coral formations. Anyway, plans are underfoot to start bigger scaled activities by collaborating with marine authorities on bigger reef conservation exercises - even reef building exercises - Fish Aggregating Devices or Artificial Reefs etc. SRC members who are divers are invited to be part of future exercises.
