  1. Hi, if you can't describe it well... how about you post a photo?
  2. $40 for a ML bartlett... wow....
  3. Wraith = Ghost? You mean wrath? I can vouch that that she wasn't wearing any red coloured undies for the mahjong game!!!! It's just your own bad luck!! Pay up! Pay up! All ye who have not paid up! Hahaha!!!!
  4. These are interesting makeup ideas for Halloween!
  5. oooh.. i think know you are into this kind of hybrid freak animals... Thinking of catering to a niche marketing?
  6. Its still there... but please read my terms and conditions of use/guidelines. There are limits.
  7. Are you talking about cyanobacteria or are you talking about red hair algae??
  8. What's $2 a pack of nori from the supermart vs $15 > for a PBT? Go buy a LR with algae on it.... once it starts grazing, it'll be fine.... then once the rock is empty, you can tie a pc of nori to it and over time it'll peck at it too.. and once it recognizes it as edible... Houston, we have liftoff!
  9. Hair algae, red or green.... will be a nuisance as they tend to break off and smother your corals, gorgonians and seafans as they will cling and grow over them. They are also unsightly and taste horrible as very few fishes are known to eat them.
  10. 4 days? Yeah no problem IMO. Especially for grazing fishes like tangs. For fishes that require frequent feeding like anthias... yeah.... they will be skinny but they will probably survive by hunting down pods and stuff.
  11. My colleague has this on her table. Surprisingly or coincidentally, she's not very popular with many of us.
  12. If that is the rockscaping you are happy with and want it to be permanent, you can use epoxy to join the rocks together. IMO, you shouldn't. Just wedge the rocks together tightly and unless you are ultra clumsy or have a very large and powerful snail or hermit crab, your top shelf of rocks should be safe and not tumble down on your corals.
  13. Well, yes, but better to sacrifice bacteria on a rock than more livestock to a mantis! Bacteria can recolonise the rock but your livestock can't resurrect!
  14. Luo Han... a freshwater fish known for a swollen head and a swollen price tag because its suppose to give owners winning 4D numbers. Anyway, overhead filters are not recommended for marine tanks. They are inefficient and give you long term problems. You should set up your tank right from the start. I suggest reading the beginners guide in the this forum done by bawater.
  15. Well, if you really want to see colours appear... high intensity lighting by MH is still unmatched. Here's my current favourite stag colony.
  16. Update: my acros have begun to show some colour after the browning out period when I changed out my radium for ushio blue. Generally, I believed it was the short photoperiod and low calcium levels from my heavy sps coral load and plentiful coralline algae that caused a slowdown in growth the last 2 weeks. I have since increased my total daily photoperiod from about 7 hours to about 11 hours now with full intensity of about 8 hours. Changes noticed: a brown colony with a purple tinge has rapidly changed to bright pink! Colours across the board have shown a change for the better. Acro frags and montis are growing very fast... and my calcium levels have taken a beating. Till I upgrade my current calcium reactor to a huge one soon, my daily dosing of vinegar-spiked kalk is unable to cope with the rapid consumption of calcium and alk. I am dosing calcium chloride daily now to bring up my calcium levels. Here's a top view just taken of my tank!
  17. Squamosa clams need good lighting too.... please don't downgrade their lighting requirements as much as you... you have to provide as many T5s to replace MH if you wish to keep clams, squas or other species.
  18. Long tanks >5 ft that are wide (2.5ft to 3ft) are advisable to have a centre brace. You can do away with the centre brace and even eurobracing provided your tank walls are very thick like 20mm, using the best grade silicon DC 795 (expensive) like AquaTechnique tanks but they will cost you a BIG BOMB! I have a centre brace as well as eurobracing. I prefer eurobracing as it prevents water from sloshing out of the tank. I wish I could get away without a centre brace but my tank is 3ft wide and I need peace of mind!
  19. Do you have water circulation going at all in your tank? If you don't... your water could be oxygen-starved.... and your LR and any hitchhikers like crabs, worms, pods may perish. Or it could just be the ammonia spike killing them.
  20. Power Blue and all. It's fine to give critical comments about any business establishment in SG as long as what you say is the truth and you will stand by it! Personal point of views (POV) should be stated. Speculative comments must be indicated otherwise or people will take your comments at face value. Facts must be verified. If you have been greatly wronged, you may even report it via the mass media like the newspapers or TV stations! What you say can be disputed not just by the shops but by other consumers. If it needs to become a legal issue, you know your own rights and if proven true by the legal system, you will be above board. Now, back to the issue about LFS. I don't mind that you wish to bring up negative comments about them. Just that those who do, will be man enough (or woman enough ) to be leave me their real names and contact numbers in case the LFS being criticised wishes to speak with you directly about this matter. I cannot interfere in such matters as I have made it very clear that you are responsible for your own postings and SRC and myself will not be held liable for them. If you want me to delete your posts, please PM me and I will do so accordingly.
  21. Suggest that since you have that much time before you get your SPS tank up, that you load up on all the lighting, water circulation, skimming, calcium reactor/dosing information you can find until nothing is left unknown before you really start just the planning. Plan it right and... do it right... ONCE. Also, I strongly suggest that you first ask the experienced SPS keepers in SRC if they are willing to spend some time with you, talking with you and for you to take a look at their systems.... believe me, you may even start thinking not once but 10 times whether you really wish to start keeping SPS or not coz it's a sure way to go broke. SPS on a budget can be done... but the outcome is usually not good, both for your livestock and for your own peace of mind.
  22. This thread has gotten to the LFS boss's ears. I got a call from Jimmy today and have gotten verbal confirmation that this Jimmy328 is not him. He has not registered himself as a user of this forum but he knows exactly what's going on in this thread. Anyway, the purpose of his call was to address how some SRC members have been merciless in their comments about his marine tank setup and his shop. While there is no way I can help verify the comments made nor he being able to dispute the comments made as wrong... I'll leave it to you guys to decide for yourselves. My policy is very clear on this. LFS are businesses. We are customers. While you as consumers have rights, and it is natural behaviour for us to comment on our dealings with them, especially negative experiences, sometimes... they as businesses have little need or tolerance for negative publicity especially if the accusations are untrue and unfounded. The subject matter therefore is debatable and while the bystanders are free to draw their conclusions, the protagonists (people heavily involved) in negative comments with this Clementi LFS must either standby their words by being identified and contactable. (I have suggested that members who wish to remain anonymous and wish to give feedback esp. negative comments, participate in such discussions by not directly indentifying the business by name but using vague descriptions or self-censoring the name to avoid confirmation of shop ID). So... now that Jimmy may wish to speak directly to the guys here who have irked him... would you be willing to back up your own words by being contactable? He did mentioned 4 members by their number ID. Notice: SRC/myself will NOT be liable for any comments made by members as stated in my Terms and Conditions for Usage of this Forum. You individuals, as registered users of this site will be solely liable for your own comments made.
  23. Well said guys! Let's not let a few 'black sheep' spoil everything due to them abusing the system. The rules are pretty clear and straightforward. There is little need to expound on the definitions of the word 'commercial' already as you guys have put it across pretty clear to reinstate my rule. I have been very patient with a few hardcore commercial posters like Sunray who still persist in pushing the limits. Gawd knows when I will finally become a nasty guy and ban them from SRC... I hope I won't be forced to do so.
