  4. Hi everyone, For clearer information seeking on the SRC T-shirts, I have created this new category and will move out the T-shirt information and order lists from the Aquarama 03 forum as it is considered obsolete already. For future orders of T-shirts, amendments on orders or any new information pertaining to T-shirt designs etc.... this is the place!
  5. Highly recommended to use & change out small amounts of GAC on a regular basis. They absorb dissolved organics and help towards making your reef tank a cleaner environment and keeps the water clear. The usage of GAC is an integral part of my reef husbandry practices.
  6. I am using an Eheim in conjunction with my Iwaki chemical pump. The Eheim is used for my closed loop (tank - chiller - tank), and no problems with it leh. IMO, its a good brand - just too bad that the flow rate is quite slow compared to Aquamedic's.
  7. Try using 45 degree bends and as much rubber hoses as possible to reduce head pressure losses. 90 degree elbows add a lot of head pressure losses.
  8. It's just the design of this hatchery is fundamentally wrong, it goes against almost everything that is recommended in my Plankton Culture Manual - with regards to lighting, brisk water circulation and the amount of water needed vs the quantity of cysts.
  9. Morgan's tank is underskimmed... so that could account for his success.
  10. What is an orange polyp? Can you positively ID the coral properly first?
  11. My turn to say this: Frags as door gifts at your birthday party!!! Happy Birdday, Honny!
  12. Best for you to get a PH monitor for continuous monitoring. Using PH test kits for daily monitoring is exhausting and expensive long term. You have to know your PH levels before doing any form of dosing to bring it up. Overdosing is dangerous if you can't monitor levels.
  13. 36 hours?? Not surprising... there is not enough light reaching the cysts to trigger the hatching. Almost 100% of the BBS would be swimming after 18 hours with my hatchery.
  14. Go to Aquamart and get yourself an Aquamedic Oceanrunner 6500. It's probably the best pump around for that kind of price/performance. The Hailea pumps are copies of the Aquamedic pumps. Best if you get a black and white guarantee from the new management of Aquamart that you will able to return the pump for exchange within the warranty period. It's just a piece of advice you can disregard at your own risk.
  15. It's called a Sunfish or Mola Mola. One of a diver's most hope-to-see fishes! Text taken off this very nice site here!: Do check out the amazing videos of this beautiful fish (or weird depending on how you look at it!) The ocean sunfish (Mola mola) is the world’s largest known bony fish (sharks and rays are cartilaginous, not bony). At least one estimate over 3000 lb. has been recorded and individuals reaching 11 ft. (3 m.) from fin tip to fin tip have been seen. It is found in all oceans in tropical and temperate climes, and is known to eat gelatinous zooplankton (jellyfish) and probably small fishes and algae. In the eastern Pacific, Mola mola is normally found from British Columbia to South America, although in El Nino events it has been recorded as far north as Alaska. Molas can be quite inquisitive of divers. Molas are sometimes observed breaching the ocean surface and landing with a splash, perhaps attempting to dislodge parasites. Ocean sunfish are occasionally mauled by California sea lions, especially near the Monterey Peninsula, reportedly because the sea lions eat the mola’s internal organs and perhaps just for “sport.” The nearest relative to Mola mola is Ranzania laevis, the slender mola. Found in the tropical and subtropical Pacific, Ranzania is rarely seen north of Mexico. Up to 2 feet (.6m) in size, its aspect ratio is “longer” than is the nearly circular Mola mola. Neither species of mola is to be confused with the tiny, freshwater “sunfish”, a completely different animal.
  16. okie okie.. offtopic already... will delete this few posts to keep it neat!
  17. ooooh... viXXXpro! LOL! My fav shop for many years is still Cybermind.
  18. I am using a metal stand and will never trust a wooden stand as much as I would a metal one. Structurely, metal's much much stronger than wood, even if it is corroded extremely badly but which reefer would do allow that to happen?? Wood can get internal rot too. And the collapse can happen in an instant.
  19. Gee.... i ain't getting no man to lay his hands on my back!
  20. Aikwan... I do that too... but find that it also causes some microbubbles/salt spray or perhaps my return is too strong...
  21. IMO, the above chemical filtration will be a very expensive long term solution to the reduction of nitrates. Nitrates are best dealt with naturally, via denitrifying bacteria action. So try to setup conditions for these bacteria to flourish and do their work. Either that or you have to export dissolved organics before they have a chance to breakdown into nitrates via a very good skimmer or harvesting of macroalgae on a regular basis.
  22. You can heat an appropriate-sized philips head screwdriver till redhot and then poke it thru the plastic cap in a few seconds...
