  1. Oh.. you bought a Teco chiller? I thought you just said you didn't have one?
  2. Huh? It's the same thing happening. Spawning.
  3. I feel the 'C' word coming out!.........C H E A P O !!!!!!!!!!
  4. LOL! Okie... I see your point. Someone should do a controlled experiment on chillers. I wonder if Dr Chill will volunteer his range of chillers!
  5. Better get rid of them asap! Nasty creatures! BTW, nice purple monti... from PR?
  6. Hmmm... I see. Sorry... didn't know the background. I had a very short cycle too... almost negligible when I transferred everything from my old tank to my new. You have to wait for your new DSB to mature... you may go through some nuisance algae phases. After a year.... it'll be smooth sailing!
  7. Day 5 and you're putting in corals already??? Is your cycle over??
  8. Gross!! I got some shivers looking at that collection of isopods!!!
  9. Guess from my non-professional opinion: If you have a heavy load to pull.... you use a truck to pull it. You don't attach 20 scooters to the trailer.... sure...they'll do the job but not as efficiently as a truck. You'll probably burn enough rubber before you get enough momentum to move the first metre!
  10. Care to share more details like your tank size? what kind of skimmer do you use? How old is your tank? How long have you been in this hobby?
  11. Other than the above.... referring to what kills SPS corals.... off the top of my head: Unstable & uncontrolled levels of 1. PH 2. Alk 3. Calcium 4. Phosphates 5. Dissolved organics 6. Ammonia 7. Nitrites 8. Nitrates 9. Temperature 10. Water circulation 11. Metabolites 12. Lighting 13. Heavy metals 14. Copper 15. Predation 16. Chemical warfare Others: inappropriate siting, poor handling, poor acclimatization, physical damage, stress, disease. Did I leave anything out? Take your pick!
  12. More often than not, it's due to inexperienced reefers who don't have enough knowledge about the needs & requirements of keeping such corals, lack of good husbandry skills, grossly inadequate equipment and usually lacking in patience for their tank to mature enough/gain enough experience and know-how BEFORE starting to keep SPS corals. I personally know a few reefers in SRC who unfortunately fit into this category... they can spent hundreds & thousands of dollars accumulatively on SPS corals and have them die within days or weeks... and they don't even know how to keep their water parameters stable or even how to control nitrates or understand what goes into the logic of one practice vs another, sandbed theories etc. I sincerely hope you are not like this.
  13. That also. Moving out from Marine Aquarium Equipment to the SPS forum.
  14. Tell us a bit more about your reefkeeping history and your tank setup.
  15. What's a dotted mardarine? What's a crab matter? Can you try to be more descriptive in your post title?
  16. Please use the topic subtitle to be more descriptive in your thread. PLEASE. AT
  17. There is actually not that much difference to a reef tank. Aragonite is just a 'higher' grade of calcium carbonate/calcite. They are supposed to help buffer PH just slightly better than other forms of substrate (we are talking TINY differences)... due to the better dissolution of this sediment... thus allowing for increased buffering capacity and calcium release into the tank. That, however, means you have to replace your aragonite substrate faster... its gonna be extremely costly! Sand grade size is more important than sand type. Even silica sand will work in a reef tank.
  18. So much for a nice intellectual discussion... it always goes back to babes...
  19. I would like to see a reef tank containing building bricks.
  20. I'm going to edit your title... it's not what you're talking about. From 'Recommendation for external pump' to 'Recommendation for external canister'
  21. Brick as liverock???? Wahaahahaa!!
  22. Nope, its a wolf fish. It has really sharp fangs! Took a snap shot off my WinTV.
  23. I can volunteer my cistern..
  24. I wonder why DIY liverock have never taken off after all these decades.
