Just make sure your extension cord does not have too many high amperage equipment on it. Or it could overload/catch fire! The Ben timers cannot tolerate high amps. Using it for my 400w lamps usually means it won't turn on or turn off... the contacter inside will 'stick'. I'm no electrical guru... maybe someone else can give a more technical answer!

No one is flaming anyone here. The mood is rather cordial in fact. Interesting point you brought up... but asking for free things would generally indicate, though not necessarily true: 1. The reefer is experienced, has good equipment & skills but broke. 2. The reefer is a newbie and too broke for livestock. Bearing in mind that GENERALLY: Experienced reefers have good husbandry skills, good knowledge, a proper setup & equipment. Newbie reefers probably have poorer husbandry skills, inadequate equipment & setup, poor knowledge of marine livestock's compatibility, housing and feeding requirements and lack experience. Bearing in mind that: That the free livestock will suited for ANY sort of tank... and would the FREE livestock therefore have: 1. Large tanks (to cope with large FREE livestock) 2. FOWLR tanks (to cope with non-reefsafe FREE livestock) 3. Excellent filtration systems (to cope with increased metabolic wastes of predatory FREE livestock) 4. Many tanks (to cope with species-only FREE livestock) 5. Tank with good lights and chiller (to cope with FREE livestock with such needs) 6. A kreisel tank (to cope with FREE jellyfish livestock) If you got a FREE shark, triggerfish, jellyfish, buttefly fish, sea horses, large tang, chocolate chip starfish and anemone.... what should we expect from your ability to take care of them? How is that possible? You are probably using the swing arm hydrometer right? You probably have microbubbles sticking on the arm... it will affect the reading. Tap it until all the bubbles are gone...before taking the reading. It's not possible for a tank with good circulating water to register different salinity at different areas.

Give back your livestock to the LFS. And read up on Marine reefkeeping basics as you wait for your tank to finish its cycle. Nitrite (NO2) is toxic to marine livestock and I can assure you your livestock is suffering badly now and will probably die if you don't do what we advise. AT

As I mentioned to you before... do your reef a favour & dump the idea. Already, some of the packed coral sand sold in LFS has metal particles in them... which you have to magnet out/sieve out. What more about our beach sand and playsand?? They are of poorer quality, dirty and contaminated. How do you intend to remove unseen chemical pollution, crude oil patches, fertilizer runoffs etc? Wash with soap? AT
