  1. Protein skimmers do not work in FW. The surface tension of freshwater bubbles is far weaker than saltwater's. Before they have a chance to 'capture' proteins on their bubble surface and rise to the top, they burst. A beckett skimmer could produce enough foam though to work though. As they utilise a fountain head venturi. IMO, keeping a planted tank is far more work than a reef tank. I HATE GARDENING and the smell of POND WATER!
  2. What??? You probably have a camel shrimp and mistook it for a peppermint shrimp. Camels are not reefsafe shrimps. (very distinct hump) Peppermints are. (looks like a skunk shrimp except it has a light reddish translucent body with no hump)
  3. If they reach a population where there's not enough food for them... potentially they could be a threat. Barracuda's gf's tank is swarming with bristlworms, such that the sandbed itself seems to be writhing... I don't think he has reported any livestock being attacked by them. Bristlworms are a useful part of a reef tank's ecosystem and helps to keep DSBs in working order with their movements but most people tend to kill bristleworms with extreme prejudice. There is a worm that I am keeping a very close watch on in my tank. I suspect its an Eunice worm, the kind that will eat fishes and can grow incredibly long. It has very large pincer like mouth parts. Very scary looking.
  4. You don't have good luck with them? Did you get camel/candy shrimps instead? They look very similar!
  5. Our Terms and Conditions for Use has stated very very clearly. Read this again!
  6. It is being mentioned... ----------------------- Warnings will be given to those who repeatedly ignore our rule to be more descriptive in their topic titles, always posting in the wrong or irrelevant forum, those who are downright rude and those who put up commercial postings. (It functions like a soccer referee's yellow card system for players who break the rules of the game with misbehaviour, rowdy outbursts, poor sportsmanship or blatant hostile action ---------------------------------- AT
  7. Bristleworms and fireworms are excellent scavengers. They will not eat anything that is still alive but the dead are fair game. Some say they can smell a dying clam from metres away and will be standing by to feast. There is a myth they will eat clams but clams can be dying from the inside out but still have their mantles out. When you see bristleworms near/under your clams, then chances are that its already dead and not killed by bristleworms.
  8. huh? No, sorry. I have no photos of my home currently. It's pretty lived-in already coz we have stayed here since year 2000.
  9. Nope. Especially if the offender was the one who did a foul.
  10. I highly recommend peppermint shrimps. They wiped out every single aiptasia in my tank! Especially in those hard to reach corners. After the aiptasia's gone, they are out scavenging the sandbed and they also spawn every fortnight, producing natural zooplankton for my corals/fish. AT
  11. Especially when an oversized one comes to visit and enhances the meaning of 'overcrowded'.
  12. I nearly killed her during my recent Flatworm Nuking Exercise. She was clearly stunned by the medication and I thought she was a goner. I left her in the tank and was pleased to see her moving around by the 3rd day after lying still for the first two days.
  13. She has never harmed anything... even my clams or other inverts.
  14. She's a real beauty. If you can look past the pain of her bristles! A fireworm's bristle is worse than a bristleworm's.
  15. Okie, here's ######.... my resident fireworm! I have no heart to kill it after all these years.
  16. If you like, I can recommend my house designer. He helped came up with my home's minimalistic look. Affordable too.
  17. Sigh! No one can fool Wei when it comes to sea horses! Yup.. it's a leafy sea dragon! Full pix here!
  18. Referee will now change your vague title of 'Hi guys, just need some advise.. ' to include: 'Dilemma about downgrading or improving'
  19. Tick tock. By tomorrow 12 noon or this thread is GONE!
