I am sorry guys... all beckett nozzles are sold out. -
auto-censoring system in place?
Achilles Tang replied to terryansimon's topic in General Reefkeeping_
There is a good reason for my actions and you guys know me enough to know that AT doesn't go to any extreme action unless something is terribly wrong, I have been pushed into a corner or when I have lost my patience. Please understand. AT -
Tip: put your skimmer on a shallow tray in case of leaks.

We can only handcarry ornamental fish back but corals are a no no... I think the amount of paperwork you have to do for AVA clearance is a killer!

Looks like our concerns about our tanks holding up is true!! With different makers of tanks and grades of silicon out there, there is very little way to grade our tanks and determine if the Tunze wavebox will cause premature failure at what point of time!! Take a look at this info by Roger of Tunze USA! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ OK, I spent the last couple days at a seminar with Claude and Axel and I took notes and have the full scoop on the wavebox. Here is what we know. The shorter the tank, the faster the frequency. Frequency is fixed by resonance and cannot be adjusted- you can tune the frequency but for alll but the longest tanks only one frequency is effective in prodoucing a wave. In a tank over 2m a double wave is possible, in a tank over 4m a 4x wave is possible. Here are the wave sizes at full power- amplitude can be adjusted on the driver that is common to all Tunze Electronic pumps and does not affect controller function at 100% the following is known dimensions are in cm, F is freq in seconds, w is wave height (crest to trough in mm) 70-50-50 F=.45s W=40 100-70-70 F=.56 W=35 120-70-60 F=.63 W=35 150-100-60 F=.83 W=30 180-100-60 F=.86 W=30 220-80-50 F=1.10 W=25 200-80-65 F=1.15 W=25 Round and Triangular tanks create an elliptical wave pattern. Rock layout and corals effect resonance and adjustments have to be made every feew months to acccomodate coral growth. The Pros of the wavebox are In a 2m tank you can move 100,000l/h of water with 30w of power! The pressure and dynamic of the wave improves permeation in to the rock and sand bed improving bio function Detritus is almost non existant- no dead spots exist Cons On a old tank it could cause algae problems as the detritus and opening of the structure to flow will liberate phosphates and drop redox Tank life is shortened by the dynamic load. We approximate a tank constructed to DIN standards looses 10-20% of it's life when all other assembly and installation is 100% correct. (Unfortunately the US has no standard system like the Deutches Institute Normalization but we can estimate that a well made name brand US tank will have a 15 year life and the wavebox will reduce that to 12 at most if all other instalation is correct-i.e. it is level and properly supported) The flow is not exactly natural, the natural wave would be much longer but given the size of the device and ultimate in energy savings it is the best that can be accomplished and is the most natural flow available to hobbyists. So, the ideal flow system now is two Electronic Streams on opposite ends back corner aimed to the front center glass and operated on interval mode 2 on multicontroller 7095 with changes in pump operation every 6hrs or so. The wave box is coordinated and shuts off at night. This flow is a 50% approximation of what exists in the ocean and the best accomplished yet by any means. Some details for the controller 6091: The unit can run three ways- one box connected to the multicontroller or two boxes independent and run synchronously (same side for bigger tanks) or Inverse where to boxes are run opposite on huge tanks to boost the flow. Maximum freq is 1.4 sec- any longer and the box prodouces bubbles. That is all the info I have and that is direct from Claude Hug the developer and primary tester of the wavebox 6212. __________________ Roger Vitko Tunze USA

I think they have been polished. Should be ok. But no money back guarantee from me ah!

Using 250w 20k for my sps tank~~
Achilles Tang replied to andysho's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
In USA and Europe, the Aquaconnect 14k and the Guisseman magnachrome 14k are the two leading 14k bulbs, all of which are available in different SE and DE fittings and in different wattages. Locally, you can also try out the Phoenix 14k bulb only available in 250w (check out the review by Hon) which bears a visually identical look to the AC14k. There is little or no information about its properties though and no one knows the long term perfomance as it is too new aka... time will only tell if the Phoenix bulb will go the way of the Radium... excellent colour but it ends its shelf life within 6 months because of the loss of intensity and spectral shifts. -
Roidan, Having MH doesn't mean you can automatically keep SPS. What kind of advice is that? *- 1 demerit point for bad advice* *- 2 demerit points for bad breath*

Don't rush out to get sea squirts if you have problems maintaining good water quality because these guys require constant feeding of phytoplankton on a regular basis... these are filterfeeders! -
You mean ATI? You can also add the Aquaristics T5 fixture to the list!

Selling Twin T5 Lighting for 5ft Tank
Achilles Tang replied to Reefaholic's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
Sigh. Okie. Thread will be closed as it is no longer productive. If this spills out to any other thread, the mods and I have no choice but to give you both a time out of a few days to chill out. I repeat, NO hint of this topic must come from both of you. AT -
Tick tock! Okie... what I just did was to give you an alert... that you have to do something soon or find this thread disappearing. Take a look at my signature for the answer! AT

Water is always in a constant state of flux. Some parameters will fluctuate a lot more than others because of their dependency on each other eg. KH and PH. Adding too much of something or too quickly may impact another parameter. I believe one should always drip buffers to prevent such localized 'reactions' from happening.

I am assuming that it's all eballasts? There should really be no problem with it running different Tx tubes, as long as its correctly rated ie. 54w T5/54w PL/54w T8/54w T12 etc.

oops, forgot to add that reflectors that are sized for the different tubes do make a LOT of difference too! -

In all fairness, a FL/PL housing can hold any bulb if the proper tube holders/end caps are installed. A FL/PL housing can also be modded to hold a MH bulb but its definitely not recommended. If its a designated T8 housing, the tube holder will be sized accordingly to the T8 tube diameter and so will the endcaps be sized to hold the pins only for T8 tubes. If its been modded to hold T5 tubes, then of course everything should be sized accordingly to T5 measurements! The ballast is another matter. Depending on the length of the tubes, they will correspond to the maximum/minimum wattage recommended to drive the tubes. If the ballast is underpowered or overpowered, the bulb will not light/blow accordingly. E-ballasts are better because of the instant start and help keep the electricity stable so that the light tube life is extended. Perhaps Reefaholic may not have been entirely clear in his description of this item for sale. If you read the suggested guidelines for Pasir Malam... the seller MUST be responsible to give the best description he can give so that the potential buyer will know what to expect and also to save everyone's time and money to go view the product. Please be gracious in recognizing that perhaps there is a failure in somebody's part in communicating properly about the sale and just walk away from this episode. Don't get personal please... take it offline or via PMs. AT -

To my knowledge, A ballast can be used to fire up a bulb properly if the wattage is suitably matched. The T5 and T8 designations are only referring to the diameter of the tubes... they are essentially still flourescent tubes. What's the issue here? Wattage? What's the wattage of the ballast then? -
Warning.... anti-flaming measures are activated. Warnings will be given out to both parties with possible 1 day cool-off period. Please comply immediately or face this possibility. Warning.

*flame detector on* Guys.... take it slow and easy now... please. Thank you. -
Wow! It takes up almost the whole tank area! How do you provide enough lights for your nano tank?
