  1. You've been punked! read this!
  2. IMO, overskimming means you can feed a lot more to your tank and not worry about overpollution (excluding phosphates).
  3. The optimal pump to use would be around 600 to 800l/hr, controlled by the ball valve if too strong... you can tune it down. If you are snaking into chiller, into UV, before into the FR, the head loss may mean you may not have enough pressure to fluidise the media.
  4. Can we boil the swimming pool water?
  5. I have stated my rule. Anyone blatantly violating this rule about posting ANY info about this LFS will get a warning and possible suspension if still persistent in posting all permutations of that LFS name or hinting to its location. This is a private matter and it is my decision you have to respect about this embargo to censor any comments about this LFS until the matter is resolved. AT
  6. And that concludes the travelogue from Clammy, Maldives' goodwill ambassador! Can you arrange a fam trip for me... hehehehe.....
  7. Only very small clams (< 3 inches) may require supplementary feeding of phytoplankton until they grow large enough to rely totally on light alone for energy.
  8. I repeat... NO references to this shop... even by code, even vague references will be allowed in SRC until further notice. I will delete them on sight. PLEASE RESPECT MY DECISIONS! AT
  9. okie guys... I'll be frank here now. The shop run by EL is taboo in SRC for personal reasons. I do not like the way he plays his games with me especially when I started my business. I will not go into details about what I hear he has been saying or doing against me but the issue is this... no free lunch for him as he is not an advertiser, and certainly not when he doesn't believe in friendly competition. What's not his in the first place doesn't mean that another person can't have it. I do not appreciate his open hostility, lies and industrial espionage and this action of mine is purely defensive and retaliatory. Till the issue between us is settled, no reference to his shop or any updates on his stocks WILL BE ALLOWED. I WILL DELETE THEM. Sorry for any inconvenience caused to everyone but I have no choice but to play this game with him. Please comply with my wishes and do stay out of this politics. I know many of you have received his side of the story when you were at his shop.... perhaps its high time I told mine.
  10. Wah....Sifu Weileong... well done! Got disciple already!
  11. Wonderful photos.... maldives will be in my list of dive spots now!!!
  12. Simple, you can tell by looking at the way its made. The motor & magnet is a lot stronger, heavier & more powerful. Hence the need for air-cooling as opposed to water-cooled.
  13. If the lid and the edge of the riser tube is far enough, no deflection ring is necessary... but if its extremely close... yes... its important.
  14. You have to take into consideration what you intend to do with your return pump... if you get one with pressure rating you will get a much higher turnover in your tank, you may even do away with more powerheads and reduce unsightliness! Most people have weak return pumps so they supplement it with powerheads. Tunze streams are better, however they do cost much much more than a cheap return pump. Of course again, the lower power consumption is offset by the price tag. (but its an awesome product). If you have a good beckett skimmer (Reef Maniac series, BAR, Aerofoamer etc), you should increase the water return rate into the sump to make full use of your skimmer. All these will count into the overall system performance. My 2 cents. AT
  15. I think squirting hot water down the air intake will help to better dissolve encrusted salt. Putting in a thin piece of wire may damage something.
  16. Does look like a lace coral. It may cause a reaction to those with sensitive skin. Don't brush your inner wrist on it.
  17. IMO, if you can go for an external pump, go for it.... a resun or an iwaki will give you better water flow because they are pressure rated and will pay for itself in no time. They also transfer little or no heat into the water... even Eheims will be warm! They are slightly more expensive to run though. Eheims are good value for the money, followed by Aquabee and the Siccee. You can also consider the Rena Flow 6000, 4750l/h at 106w. Strong reliable pump. You can forget about the ORs. From my personal experience and others... they are unreliable, run too warm and get too noisy after a while.
