  1. Saw a manta at the Seven Skies wreck. Other than that... pretty normal. Quite sad to see how bombed out some of the island reefs are. You can still see the 'banana leaves with big stone' sinking devices left behind. Quite a lot of RTN/bleaching did happen... a lot of white corals around. Saw only a few beautiful SPS specimens though.... bright pink poccilopora sp. around... orange monti caps with orange polyps...
  2. Yup, oxygenation of saltwater in marine tanks is very important. IME, a marine tank will crash quite quickly compared to a freshwater one when there is a drop in oxygen. Any form of treatment which affects oxygen levels must be supplemented with an airstone or a skimmer. It is good to have good water circulation in a marine tank... don't skimp on powerheads or wavemaking devices.
  3. Government came back and looking to punish dissidents!
  4. Skimmers are like airstones, they introduce loads of tiny bubbles into the water and this water is returned back into the sump... logically they do oxygenate very well.
  5. Actually, there is the "SHIOK" factor looking at the clear downtubes!
  6. hamannbmw, You should go for a proper pressure-rated pump like the Resun or the Iwaki MD55. Michael Young (Seaquest) has his new stock of Resun MD-55 in already. You can check with him! And if you do want to go for a proven and better grade pump (but more expensive), there are two Iwaki MD-55 available at Bio-Ocean.
  7. Hi there and welcome to SRC! Would definitely like to encourage you to get a good skimmer like H&S, you won't regret the extra $$$ you have to spend over a cheaper Weipro or Macro. There is a big distinction in performance between skimmers. AT
  8. Ahh... you made the same honest mistake as Robe and I did... kenna suan to death by someone for it.... kekkekeke.... you have to see label. Check out this info... here.
  9. I would like to remind those who are not 100% sure / without data or comprehensive feedback from other hobbyists to refrain from giving out advice to other newbies. We are supposed to teach and give sound advice based on logic, facts & good reasoning... not give dubious illogical answers.
  10. For all the girls in SGreef.... enjoy... Mr Steven "Superhero" Lim! Check out his website!!
  11. You can take a look at my skimmer pix running one beckett on one MX-70. The foam is even more impressive... than running on MD55.
  12. Good question. Besides looks? The ability to see inside the skimmer and see if there is anything foreign inside? Or if the foam production is uneven? The really huge commercial skimmers are not made out of clear acrylic but of some plastic material or PVC... and they do have clear ports for people to peek inside.
  13. Well... you should at least aim to block out as much light from reaching your skimmer. You don't really have to cover the whole entire body. I shielded half my skimmer to prevent algae growth... or you can simply keep so much SPS that coralline algae will not grow... heehehe...
  14. WL. I like the double downtube supports of the BAR skimmers! Can they be removed?
  15. Hmmm.... IMO, although its a novelty factor and quite cool to see clear downtubes (which turns white anyway because of the foam bubbles and no diff from white PVC pipes)... it has zero practical purposes. You monitor the quality of the bubbles in the main reaction chamber & riser tube coz it's impossible to see them rushing by at high speeds in the downtube. Previously I had to wrap my old skimmer's body in paper to prevent diatoms, slime algae, coralline algae from growing on the body! Light will trigger growth of such algae thru clear acrylic!
  16. Pospeh!! You son of a gun! You're MIA for so long and only pop your head out to laugh at jokes!
